Heartbeats

Zara nervously stepped onto the college campus, her heart pounding with excitement and a touch of anxiety. It was her first day of college, a new chapter in her life as well as an opportunity to start afresh. Ever since the car accident that almost took her life, things had changed dramatically for Zara. She had been on the brink of death, but through a mysterious turn of events, her life had been saved when werewolf blood was transfused into her body.

Now, Zara was a werefolk—a hybrid of human and werewolf. She had undergone a remarkable transformation, both physically and emotionally. The full moon had become a catalyst for her werewolf side to emerge, and she had learned to control her newfound powers with the guidance of a supportive pack.

As Zara wandered through the bustling campus, she caught sight of a familiar face—a face that made her heart skip a beat. It was Jason, her childhood crush. They had grown up together, and Zara had always admired Jason from afar. It even became farther after the tragic accident. Her father won't let her out of his sight or the house. But now, standing there as a werewolf, Zara wondered how her transformed self would be perceived.

Taking a deep breath, Zara approached Jason with a mix of excitement and trepidation. "Hey, Jason," she said, hoping her voice didn't betray her nervousness.

Jason turned around, eyes widening as they recognized Zara. "Zara! Wow, it's been ages since we last saw each other. How have you been?"

A wave of relief washed over Zara as she saw Jason's warm smile. "I've been through quite a journey," she replied, choosing her words carefully. "I was in a car accident a while ago, and something...unexpected happened. I received a blood transfusion, and it changed everything about my life".

Jason's eyes widened further in surprise, but instead of recoiling, they looked genuinely interested. "That's incredible, Zara! It must have been quite the experience. How are you handling it?"

Zara's heart swelled with appreciation for Jason's understanding. "Thank you, Jason. That means a lot to me."

As the conversation continued, Zara realized that her transformation hadn't changed the connection she had felt with Jason all those years ago. In fact, it seemed to have strengthened their bond as they shared stories and caught up on each other's lives. Zara was grateful for this unexpected reunion and looked forward to the adventures that college would bring, knowing that she had someone like Jason by her side.

Zara's conversation with Alex was abruptly interrupted when Vincent, her assigned hewolf, walked into them. Vincent was a loyal and protective member of her werewolf pack, tasked with keeping an eye on her and ensuring her safety during her time at college.

Vincent's eyes narrowed as he saw Zara engaged in conversation with Jason, a mix of concern and possessiveness flickering across his face. He was well aware of Zara's past feelings for Jason and the history they shared. His instincts as a werewolf heightened his protective nature, especially when it came to Zara's well-being.

"Zara," Vincent said firmly, his voice tinged with an undercurrent of tension. "We need to get going. It's time for your lecture."

Zara glanced at Vincent, noticing the intensity in his eyes, and then turned her attention to Jason. "Jason, it was great catching up. But I should head to class. Vincent, would you mind walking me to the lecture venue?"

Jason's expression tightened, but he nodded politely. "Sure, Zara. It was good seeing you. Take care."

As Zara and Vincent walked away, the tension between them was palpable. Vincent was protective, but Zara could sense his unease, and she knew it stemmed from more than just his duty as her assigned hewolf.

Once they were out of earshot, Zara spoke softly to Vincent. "Vincent, I appreciate your concern, but there's no need for hostility. Jason and I were just catching up. We're friends."

Vincent's gaze softened slightly, his protective instincts still evident. "I know, Zara. But I can't help but worry. You've been through so much, and I don't want to see you hurt."

Zara placed a comforting hand on Vincent's arm. "I understand, Vincent. And I'm grateful for your watchful eye. But I need you to trust me too. I've grown stronger, both physically and emotionally. I can handle myself, and I value your presence as a friend and protector."

Vincent sighed, his tense posture relaxing a bit. "I do trust you, Zara. It's just hard for me to let go sometimes. Your safety means everything to me."

Zara smiled warmly, appreciating Vincent's genuine concern. "I know, Vincent, and I'm grateful for that. Let's walk together to the lecture venue, and afterwards, we can talk more about this if you want."

As they neared the lecture hall, the visions and the headache returned. Zara held onto Vincent as it flashed before her eyes. The car had stopped abruptly

and she had said, "Zara, mummy just wants to check wants wrong. Take with your brother ", the woman had said. Zara strained to see her face and the pain intensified. She had someone scream, Zara realised the screams were hears. The room started spining and then it went dark.
