The Shining Moon Curse

When you feel that everything is fine in your life, then god completely changes your life over which you have no control over. Same thing happened in her life. One minute her family was happy and enjoying and the next minute that happiness got coloured with sorrow and blood.

“Mom - Dad!” A girl who is severely injured tried calling her parents, when she saw blood flowing from their body continuously and looked at her mom who was just looking at her back with tears in her eyes.

“Pls someone help… is someone there? pls” she asked for help in a desperate situation.

“Mom, no! pls don’t leave me. Mom” she tried to talk to her as her mother’s aqua blue eyes started closing.

“T-Take care…Eve” her mother’s last words before her eyes closed. When the girl saw her parents' lifeless bodies, she became shocked. She was not saying anything. 

And just laid there, waiting for, don't know how much time, seeing her parents until a shadow came beside the passenger seat of the car. The girl came out of her shock and tried moving her body that was stuck behind the driver’s seat but was not able to because of the immense pain that ran through her body.

“H-Help, help u-us” and tried to coax those words from her mouth as she was slowly fainting. Then she thought that maybe her voice did reach the shadow because it started walking towards her side and appeared before her… with four legs. That was the last thing she saw before her eyes fully closed. 

“DAD- MOM!” she suddenly woke up on a bed, shouting her parents name again and again.

“Calm down girl, otherwise your injuries will open again” the lady wearing white dress with name tag ‘Marie’ written, tried to hold her. 

“NO, leave me. I want to see my parents, mom- dad! Leave me... Where are you?” She screamed and other staff gathered outside the room. After a few minutes of fighting she lost her battle and just cried in the arms of the nurse.

For a while the nurse caressed her hair letting her out her emotions and the child’s breathing became normal. She silently pulled out of the woman's arms after understanding where she was and sat there staring at the wall.

Later, the door of the room opened and a man wearing white coat entered, upon seeing Dr. Austin, the nurse who was sitting on the chair and reading a magazine stood up.

“Good evening Dr.” Marie said while the doctor acknowledged her with a smile and moved towards the bed. He checked the girl’s health chart that was hanging on the wall. 

“How are you feeling, Evelyn?” Doctor stood in front of her bed and she just said ‘okay’ like a whisper but it was still heard by him. 

“Where are my parents? When can I see them?” She started asking questions when the doctor didn’t tell her anything about them.

“Uh… Evelyn listen to me carefully, child. Your parents are still being checked, they are with other doctors. So, I want you to be a brave girl and listen to Ms. Marie, she will always be here until your parents are back with you. Now, will you do what I said?”

Dr. Austin explained the whole situation to her with a calm voice and she agreed. Then the doctor left the room and Evelyn was now alone with the nurse.

“Do you want to do anything?” Marie tried to break the staring contest that she was doing with the wall in front of her.

“Can we go outside?”  after a moment, she asked with a low voice and with a hope in her eyes. 

“Sure, I’ll get the wheelchair for you as your left leg is fractured” she then walked out and came back within 5 minutes. After helping her to sit, they went out. 

“Do you like the moon?” This was the first question the nurse asked when she saw Evelyn staring at the sky since they came to the garden. Never once did she remove her eyes and stare blankly without giving any response to her.

After like 10 minutes, she gave her attention to the trees that were surrounding the hospital making it isolated from the world outside. It was a peaceful night for everyone except for her.

She instantly looked in the direction from where a little noise was coming while Marie was talking to another nurse, taking this as a cue she wheeled towards the noise. Being a curious child, she tried to look around the darkness of the surroundings when immediately only two light golden eyes appeared in front of her, like other people she didn’t flinch or scream but looked at those eyes for a minute. They both just stare at each other without caring about the world.

“Come Evelyn, let’s go back. It’s getting late” Marie’s voice broke the moment they were having and those eyes vanished in thin air. Then, the nurse took her back into the room and tucked her into bed.

“Good night Evelyn, sleep well” the nurse kissed her forehead and switched off lights before going over to the small couch that was beside a window. 

But the images that were going inside Evelyn’s mind were not letting her sleep and especially the shadow and those eyes that she saw. These two things alone were enough to change her future life.
