Lucian Smithfield's POV:

On a normal day, I avoid women, men, clubs, and alcohol. Not because I don't have friends, but because of my choices. Those sorts of things weren't a necessity, and I grew up without needing most of them.

“Sonia Magnus?” I murmur under my breath, reading the file in my hands. Darren, my bodyguard and secretary had given it to me five minutes ago. He was so excited to carry out this job that he brought everything he could find about her.

“She is an orphan but was adopted at a young age,” Darren informed me on noticing my curiosity in the file.

“Do they live here in the city? Her parents I mean?” I asked Darren with a conflicted voice.

Darren shook his head and sighed. “No, they don't. Sonia left home a long time ago, and from what I could gather, she doesn't seem to have a good relationship with her family,” he said, and I furrowed my brows.

We were in my office. I had come early to familiarize myself with the building, but I couldn't get my one-night stand out of my mind. It's been a while since I last slept with a woman, you can say that I'm keeping myself for someone special, but Sonia arrived out of nowhere and took it, my years of perseverance. I wasn't pointing fingers or blaming anyone because it indeed takes two to tango. Also, I wasn't sure if she was sent to sleep with me or if she was also drugged like me.

I could still remember her hands on my body, caressing every part of me. And her lips, oh, those wet devil, their memory still lingered on my body, and just thinking about her gave me a boner. Her lips tasted different, it was mixed with milk, alcohol and something bitter. Exactly like what my stepbrother gave me.

“Hmmm,” I took a deep breath and placed the file on my desk. “What should I do about her? Buy her silence? Threaten her?” I asked rhetorically and began to pace restlessly. If it was an accident, that was understandable, and I could just apologize to her and we'd both move on. But if she was sent, then no amount I give her can buy her back. Maybe our sex was even recorded. Fuck!

“Do you think she was sent by your brother?” Darren asked with arched brows, and I turned to face him, infuriated.

“How would I know? You were supposed to be watching me, Darren. How could my brother have entered without your approval?” I asked with a puzzled gaze. I wasn't angry at him, but I wasn't proud either.

Darren bowed his head in shame. “It's my fault. I accept full responsibility. Yesterday, I was on watch duty, just like you instructed when suddenly I got a call from an unknown number telling me that you were in trouble. They even played a convincing voice record of you crying out for help.” He paused, raising his head to meet mine, “I apologize once again.”

What he said wasn't really believable. I wasn't convinced that someone had the power to bypass my security and corner me. But Darren was one of the few people I trusted, so I took his words seriously.

“Get our eyes on the girl. I want to know who she is meeting, greeting, or sleeping with. If she's a spy, then I'll personally take care of her,” I declared and sat on my chair, my arms under my chin.

“What if she's not a spy?” Darren asked in a whisper.

I hadn't really thought of that possibility so I shrugged my shoulders. It couldn't just be a coincidence. Nothing with my brother was ever by accident.

“By the way, I want to speak with the financial team. It's urgent,” I informed Darren. He looked like he wanted to obey my instructions, but his curiosity got the better of him.

“Is everything alright? Did they do something wrong?” He asked, his eyes scanning the office documents I placed on my table.

Darren and I grew up together as brothers. So I had gotten used to his annoying behavior. “Everything is okay, Darren. I just want to see them and commend them, they are doing a good job in the company,” I replied, but Darren scoffed, he obviously didn't trust me.

“Whatever, don't tell me if you don't want to,” he murmured with a grimace. “Hmm, by the way, about the other lady you instructed me to search for, I still haven't gotten any news about her whereabouts. But I'm certain she's alive,” Darren said to me, and I sighed, feeling relieved.

Sonia reminded me so much of her, and I guessed I was deeply invested in Sonia because she looked like my childhood crush. Anyways…..

“The financial team is around, Lucian,” Darren informed me and I stood up and looked out of my window. That's when I saw her, my special person. She came down from a taxi, looking tired and frustrated.

My eyes widened in shock, and I immediately headed for the door.

Darren looked confused and he also looked out of the window. “That's just Sonia, isn't it?” He asked with arched brows, and I stopped in my tracks.

“Is it Sonia?” I stuttered and moved back to the window. I could see her clearly this time, and she was talking to another lady. “So much resemblance. Can this be my brother's handiwork? Is he trying to confuse me?” I wondered with furrowed brows, my eyes lingering on Sonia till she ran into the company. She looked like she really loved her job and friends, and I was intrigued.

The financial director came to my office to lead me to the financial team office, and I noticed how his suit was wrinkled, like he hadn't been anxious to meet me. Wow, such boldness. “What are you wearing? It seems you're ready to lose your job, sir?” I said to him with a calm smile, and he froze.

“I'm so sorry, sir. I'll change into something better,” the financial director apologized with a sweaty palm, and quickly removed his suit.

When we got to the team's office, my eyes desperately searched for Sonia, and immediately I saw her, she gasped. She looked so cute, and I couldn't help myself, so I smirked, reminding her of yesterday's incident.

“You are….” Sonia stuttered under her breath, her index finger pointed at me.

There was something in her eyes, a glint I immediately recognized and I began to move towards her slowly. Like a man who had just seen his first love after ten years.

“Magnus?” I whispered, and my eyes widened because that name was familiar.

We didn't even know who they were and they also had no clue who we were so why was she this freaking obsessed?“But you know what I heard?” This time around, her voice was a little shushed as she moved closer to me, and I heaved deeply, finally raising my eyes from my phone to give her the attention that she had been craving for the entire time.“What did you hear this time, Angela?” I asked with a bored voice.“They’re step-brothers and are each other's worst enemies. Rumor has it, they’re back as CEOs of Smithfield Corporation, and according to the president there can be only one successor of the corporation.” Angela explained, her eyes lingering on the news headline.Al
