Nadia's POV.

This was it.

I was sitting in his car that was parked in front of the Deluca mansion.

I was going to meet his father again, but this time, as his ultimate ruin.

But why did he ask to see me though?

I guess I made a lot of impact during our last meeting.

"Are you ready?" Jeremy asked as he opened the door to my side of the car.

"Umm, yeah..."

I mumbled with a nod.

I was wearing a denim dress.

Of course, I wasn’t the one who got it—Jeremy did.

It would’ve taken a year of dancing on TikTok before I could’ve been able to afford the incredibly expensive blue corset dress.

"Let’s go in then..." I said, my eyes narrowed at his body posture.

"Yeah, before that, I warn you that my brother and his girlfriend are also here for lunch."

He said, scratching his scalp.

The fuck?

I hadn’t forgotten the verbal war I and his arrogant brother had the other day, now his girlfriend?

"I will be right beside you so don’t worry, just try not to get into an argument with his girlfriend.

She has a stupid sharp mouth."

He remarked and I giggled as I got out of the car.

"Well babe, your girlfriend can handle a stupid sharp mouth."

I smirked, extending my hand, and he took it, leading the way into the building.

***

The air felt different from the last time I visited.

It felt warm but somehow calming.

I never thought I would be so eager to see Jeremy’s father.

Ahh, maybe it was because I wasn’t really there to meet Jeremy’s father.

I was there to see my enemy.

"Lunch has been served, sir. Proceed to the table, the boss awaits."

A maid said as we walked past her and I straightened my dress.

We walked into another hall and my eyes landed on him.

He had a bright smile on his face, so much so that no one would have thought he was capable of evil.

"Good day, sir," I greeted as I smiled, my hand in Jeremy’s.

"Hello Nadia, you're looking utterly beautiful."

He complimented, and I grinned harder.

"Come join us for lunch."

He invited and I continued to smile as we walked to the table.

But then, my eyes settled on someone, a petite lady with a bitchy face, her blonde hair in a tight ponytail.

Why was she frowning so much?

And glaring so hard?

The fuck...

Beside her was Jeremy’s brother, Silas, whose expression was a sharp contrast from hers.

Why was he smiling so hard?

"Welcome Nadia, glad you honored Dad’s invitation."

He said, loosening the knot of the tie on his neck.

"The pleasure is all mine."

I smiled in return as we took our seats.

All that time, Jeremy had remained quiet.

"So she's the one?

The new girl who's leeching off Jeremy?" the blonde, angry-looking lady said, and I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"I liked the last one better; at least she looked presentable," she added, and I scoffed, muttering unclear words.

"Enough, Miranda, Nadia is my guest," Mr. Albert rebuked, and Miranda shifted in her seat.

The food was served in no time, and we dug in, my mind raging with a thousand and one questions.

Why did he ask to see me?

Inviting me to dinner alongside his son's bitchy girlfriend?

He shunned her remarks, why?

What was he planning?

"Arghmm..." Jeremy cleared his throat abruptly, and I flinched.

"You're hitting your plate a bit too loudly."

Ohh...

I managed an awkward smile as I realized everybody's eyes were on me.

"Is there a reason why you invited her to dine with us? She clearly lacks manners, so discourteous," Miranda jeered, her witchy blue eyes eyeing my body.

"I do not need a real reason to invite her over, Miranda. She is Jeremy's girlfriend; plus, she is smart and I like her," Mr. Albert replied, dropping his cutlery.

"Unlike a lot of girls who actually leech off their partners, Nadia here seems to be hardworking and ambitious," he continued, turning to me.

"That's why I decided to offer her a job."

What...

A... a job?

Did I... did I hear him right?

I opened my mouth slightly. "A job?" I asked, my voice low but audible.

"Yes, Nadia, I want you in my empire. I need you to be one of our marketing strategists."

He clarified, and I swallowed hard on the food already in my mouth.

"You're smart, young, and ambitious.... That's just what my empire aims for in its employees. So, what do you say?

Are you going to join the Deluca empire?"

A hiccup escaped my lips as his words were too much to process.

A job?

The Deluca empire?

Me?

It was too much to process, a lot of thoughts banging in my brain at the same time.

How was I supposed to work in his company as a girl when I disguised myself as a boy to play hockey?

It was insane.

I couldn't...

"So what do you say?" Mr. Albert cleared his throat, dragging my attention back to the table. "I hope I didn't startle you with my offer; you seem a bit lost."

I shrugged as I grabbed a napkin. "I can't deny the fact that your offer has caught me off guard," I dabbed at my lips, "but I will only be silly to reject it."

What was I saying?

What the hell?

I couldn't work all dressed up; then why the hell did I accept?

"Pathetic," Miranda scoffed, causing my narrowed eyes to turn to her.

"No interview? Sir, how do you know she's qualified?"

That bitch... she was really beginning to get on my nerves.

"She should at least go through an interview like every other aspiring employee. Not doing so is against the rules," she retorted, and I felt the urge to pull her damn hair.

"Enough," Mr. Albert slammed the table, and I flinched, skipping a breath.

"I make the damn rules; I own the empire, Miranda," his voice was louder and sterner, and I could see the fright in Miranda's eyes.

"C'mon, Dad, she... she is just concerned about the company's dealings."

Silas tried to defend his bitchy girlfriend, but Mr. Albert wasn't having it.

"I've said enough..." he dismissed.

"As long as Nadia had accepted, no one and nothing can change my decision," he declared, and I smirked at Miranda, who looked like she would've shot me blazing arrows with her eyes if she could.

Well, I guessed marketing strategist it was, then.

After all, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Nadia's POV. I tied my shoelaces, yeah, shoelaces.I wasn't going to wear heels to work; having a sprained ankle on my first task was enough lessons, well, till my ankle was completely healed."Mom... I'm done, gonna be on my way!" I yelled out as I strode to Dad's room."Nadia..." He sniffed, smiling as soon as he realized my presence."Hey champ, oh goodness, you look really handsome this morning."I placed a kiss on his forehead and heard him chuckle."Flattering me now?" He raised a brow as he tried to straighten himself on the bed."Easy," I bent over him and stacked pillows behind his back for support."I will be a fool not to acknowledge how handsome you are. I'm sure the flirty nurses at the city hospital will be hovering around you."I sat on a stool, taking his hands."Why don't you believe me?"I furrowed my brows."Mom has been hesitant to commence treatment because she's kinda anxious about all the flirtatious stares and winks you will get...You know," I lea

Nadia's POV. "Boys, this is the CEO of Robin Enterprises," the coach began, and I immediately averted my gaze from Zachery, who had already raised a brow."Hey guys, it’s truly exciting to be here," Simone beamed with a wave."My kids are your biggest fans, and they would like to take pictures with you."The children squeaked, each bouncing with excitement."These are my kids, Katie and Kelvin." Simone introduced, pointing at each of the children."Hi, Cheetahs!" Kelvin, I supposed, yelled, waving his hand at Jeremy."Look, Katie, it's the captain. It's Captain Jeremy." They continued to squeak, and I continued to hide my face away from Zachery, who stood behind them.Markers were handed to each of the team players, and we stood in line waiting to write our signatures on the children's jerseys.Trust me, I loved children, but they seemed bratty, and, plus, I was made anxious and uneasy by the looks their uncle threw at me. Argh, I couldn't wait to go home.It was my turn to

Nadia's POV. I knew it was like the hundredth time I had sprained my ankle, but why was he so concerned?I told him I was fine countless times, but he kept pressing on, kept asking what was wrong, where I was, and it was damn annoying.I pushed him off, acted rudely, and hoped he wouldn't bug me anymore. But there he was, dragging me to the locker room, like we were some couple running off to the rainbow."Stop, okay. I said I'm fine." I tried to refute, to push him away, but damn, he just had to keep going. And now he was getting closer to me.Ha!He pushed off my wig. What was wrong with him?He was leaning closer. Why was he so close to me?His hand was on my waist, his eyes glancing at my lips. Wait, what was he about to do? Oh no."I care about you, peaches. Can't you see that I do?" He was closing the distance between us, and all I wanted was to push him away, but it seemed like my limbs had failed me.The only things working were my eyes, which were burning wide, an

The delivery truck returned to the company, but you weren't with the driver. Where were you?" I shook her body, maybe a little bit too rigorously."Let go of me, okay?" She spat, pushing me away."I don't answer to you. Besides, what are you doing here, stalking around my house?"She groaned, stepping away, and I noticed that she was limping."Are you okay?" I asked, bending to her feet, but she moved her leg away."Stay still," I commanded, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her to my chest."Stay still," I repeated as my arms went under her thighs and carried her up onto my chest.I carried her over to the bench at the house, dropped her gently on it and took her right foot."You haven't answered my question, where were you? It's so late, how long have you been standing?"I asked but she seemed startled, probably because my thumbs

Nadia's POV. I sat in the room, my eyes glued to the boxes of cosmetics as my feet drummed on the ground, waiting anxiously for the stranger to show up with the board of directors as promised. Why did I even trust him? Did he really know the blonde lady, or was he playing a fast one on me? Was I wasting my time there waiting for him? The fuck... my mind was running wild. Just as I was about to lose it, the door clicked open and the gentleman from earlier walked in. Behind him was the blonde lady. I sprang up to my feet. "Ms. Nadia Smith, right?" the lady asked, and I nodded almost immediately, my palms sweaty. "I got an unexpected solicitation on your behalf and we're here to give you another chance," she said, and I let out a heavy breath. He did know her. He was telling the truth. "Thank you... Thank you for giving me another chance," I blabbed, forcing the booklet from earlier into my purse and moving away from the chair. I watched them take their seats and swallowed

I didn't want to lose. No!My fingers ran into my hair as I pulled on my strands, biting my lips with frustration."What was I going to do? What the hell was I going to do?"I mumbled under as I paced out of the walkway, my eyes roaming through the doors, my mind guessing on which one to knock on.Soon I was in a busy hall in the midst of people who were busy with their steps, going to and fro.Where was I going to find them now?Walking briskly without direction, my shoulder brushed against someone else's, so hard that I stumbled back, the platform heels that I wore losing their balance, causing me to fall on the person behind me."Ah!"
