Ghosts of the past

 Narrator - Ashley

As I was returning towards my bike after telling off those two idiots yesterday, I heard someone wail for help from an abandoned building nearby. But I didn't want to take any chances with Alexander trailing me everywhere. So today after school I sped off to that building with Nova in my hands.

The call for help was coming from a crack in the wall . What I saw there broke my heart. There were few little kittens who weren't more than couple of days old and their mom lay lifeless behind the. Poor kids were hungry and scared to death.

“Snow….” I said

she analyzed the situation and  mewled,“Died in chlid birth”. I took a kitten in my hand and she purred. I decided to take them to a pack of cats who can adopt them and buckled them safely in the trolley of my bike.

“Nova don’t make sudden movements and come and sit on my lap. Let find a home for these poor babies.” I asked Snow to send a distress signal and around a dozen cats responded.

“Hello guys” I said and gave them cat food. After they were done eating I asked them if they can adopt the poor little kittens and take care of the kittens. But the cats were dealing with their own problems. They were also strays and didn't want to burden themselves with little kittens. I could have ordered them for this as the "Great Protector", but I understood and decided to take the kittens home.

“Sorry Great Protector”, the cats said.

“It’s fine..I don’t blame any of you” I smiled and sped off to my mansion.

“The Alpha is still following us. Why doesn't he leave us alone” Snow huffed.

“Wolf?” I asked her because she usually calls them idiot. 

“Sorry. The cute Alpha is still following us. Try to ditch him Ashley.”

I just rolled my eyes when she called the Alpha cute and turned up my speed  in order to ditch Alexander but the kittens started crying so I was forced to slow down again. 

“Snow, why do I have to ask you to help me every time?. You can use your own brains sometimes na.” 

“It’s fun to see you grovelling for help”, she giggled  and used her command on the wolf.

Once we reached the house I placed Nova on my head. She was kinda heavy but thanks to my tiger I could hold her without breaking my neck. Nova knew not to move when she was on my head so she was very still while I carried the kittens inside. I placed all of them very gently inside a white fluffy basket and said, “Nova, take care of them".

“Yes sir, Yes sir”, she said putting one paw on her head. What a Drama Queen she is. I giggled and grabbed milk from the fridge and Nova's old feeding bottles and started feeding the kittens.

“How do I take care of all of you now along with Nova and my studies.” I asked them.

“Meow”, the boy said and I chuckled. He was saying that that they will try to be as independent as possible and will not trouble me at all.I chuckled at their proclamation. They were too small to be independent as of now, but I liked that they already love me so much.

“That's cute. But now carry me to my bed Mom. I want to be in your lap.”, Nova huffed.

“You will sleep on the couch downstairs for sometime Nova because of your leg”, I said lifting Nova up and moved towards couch. Nova was sulking already at the thought of sleeping alone. She has never slept without me since she was born. As soon as I moved away from the  basket the kittens started crying.

“Don't be scared cuties, I will be back in a second.”

I settled all of them on the couch and went to sleep on a rocking chair that I moved from study. I knew that I can't leave my babies all alone at night. I fell into a deep slumber.

“I, Ashen jay, Alpha of the NightShadow pack reject you, Ashley Carter as my mate and Luna of the pack”. As soon as I heard these words my heart shattered into a million pieces. Getting rejected by your mate is not easy. I wanted to cry but I kept my head high as I was done with the shit I’ve been put through. 

“I,Ashley Carter accept your rejection and hereby cut all ties with the NightShadow pack” I said firmly and left the pack quickly. I didn't want him to know what I had done and shackle me up.I ran out of the border of the pack as quickly as I can and at last I was..free.

“Kate?” I called out my wolf but no reply and then I felt a horrible pain in my heart. My wolf was dead. 

And with this, I woke up. My cheeks were wet with tears. I have never felt this horrible in ages now and not had this dream for quite some time. Nova was looking at me worried and asked , “Bad dream?”, she asked me and I hugged her tight needing some comfort. Generally she complained if I did some PDA with her, but today she just snuggled with me. She understood that mumma needed that cuddle.
