I stood outside the grand hall with my heart in my mouth.

Their voices carried outside, and although they were all talking at once, I could separate some of them and hear what they were saying.

"She cannot be alive. King Karlos already declared she's been executed."

"Princess Emerald is taking her place. Why would she do that if her sister was alive?"

"She failed to produce an heir in two years. If she had, she would be secure in her position."
