The moon goddess had forsaken me, so I thought. Spending three months being locked up and serving as the pack healer made my yearning for revenge simmer down but not forgotten. It was harder than I thought it would be. I have been kept under tight security so there wasn’t enough room for me to plan. When they came to drag me out one night saying a child was dying and only I could save him, I was certain that my chance to get back at the traitor had come. But I was wrong.
Richard ensured not to call on me when he falls ill. I hear he goes out of the pack to seek a solution. He must fear what I might do to him after our last encounter in the woods. I hear his ear still hasn’t healed totally.
Meeting Alpha Vincent that day at the clinic, I felt his energy and knew that we were mates. My almost nonexistent wolf’s energy soared that day after so long. But I couldn’t get too excited because there was no way I would be allowed such goodwill. That was what I thought.
Not until I was taken out of the dungeon, not to treat any ailing patient but to walk freely. My mate turned out to be an Alpha, not just a random person. He was able to strike a deal with Alpha Richard. One of them is that I must never step foot into the Ridgestone pack again. I do not mind because of the painful memories I have of the place.
However, that won’t stop me from getting back at Richard. Since I am going to become a Luna, it is only a matter of time before I find a way back to pay Richard in his own coin.
“Please come with me, my lady. The Alpha is waiting for you.” Ivan who had escorted me to the pack said, leading the way.
I followed him feeling anxious. Vincent had sent me a letter before he left for his pack two days ago. Assuring me that we would be together soon. That still didn’t convince me until he had sent Ivan to come get me and bring me to him safely. Tears laced my eyes as I walked through the hallway.
I had almost forgotten what it felt like to be free. I keep jolting at every sound and the guards walking by make me fidget for the fear of being dragged back to the dungeon. My life has witnessed so much darkness in such a short time that I fear what the light brings forth.
However, things have finally taken a blissful turn when I least expected it and that is good enough. I can finally thank the goddess for not forsaking me.
“We are here,” Ivan announced, knocking on the door slightly.
“Come in,” Vincent replied behind the door and my heart leaped in response.
Taking in a deep breath, I turned the doorknob knob letting myself in with my head bowed meekly.
“Finally, you are here,” Vincent uttered standing up with his arms wide open to embrace me.
My toes curled in excitement the moment I felt his arms around me. Just when I thought of reciprocating the action. He retreated, brows furrowed.
“Is something wrong?” I inquired.
Vincent blinked, leaning close to sniff me. I sniffed myself but there wasn’t any odd smell coming from me. He pulled me closer, sniffing my nape like he intended to get high on my scent.
Just when I thought this was a playful trick, he pushed me roughly backwards. “What the hell?”
I gasped in shock, getting on my feet quickly. “What is the matter? Did you smell something?”
His friendly face had morphed into a vicious scowl. “It is more of the fact that I can’t smell anything. I thought it was strange at first that your scent wasn’t strong, but I felt it was all in the spur of the moment. Are you wolfless?”
The question made me gulp hard as I didn’t have a direct response to that.
“Answer me!” He yelled causing me to jolt in shock.
My lips quivered, palms sweaty as I tried to find the words. “I….I don’t know. I used to have a wolf. Maybe, she is just shy?”
“Are you crazy?” Vincent snapped. “Do you think we are having a guessing game here?”
“That is not what I meant. I….”
“Shut the hell up!” He gritted, running his hands through his hair in frustration. “What have I gotten myself into? To think I went all out for a weak, spineless mate like you? How can you not have a wolf?”
I don’t know where the tears came from, they just began rolling down my cheeks. “Please, Vincent. I can explain.” I begged.
“Explain what? Do you expect me to take someone like you who can’t protect herself talk more of protecting others as my Luna? Of what use will you be to me when you have no wolf? Oh my goodness!”
Wiping off the tears quickly I tried to touch him but he slapped my hand so hard, I felt it in my brain. “Vincent…..”
“Call my name one more time and I will have you buried alive.” He didn’t sound like the one who was willing to welcome me just a few minutes ago. “Because of you, I gave out a precious land to that bastard called Richard. Just because I thought you were a treasure worth having. But you are just a good-for-nothing bitch!”
“Please don’t say that to me.” I whimpered.
“Who are you to tell me what to do? Who the hell are you?” He bellowed, his eyes flaming in fury.
I stumbled backwards, sobbing. Vincent cursed relentlessly. Pacing the room back and forth. In the middle of the mess, there was a light knock behind the door. The person didn’t wait for a response before opening the door.
I turned to see a pretty lady with a cold gaze. She stared me down before walking casually towards Vincent. I was expecting him to tell her to leave because he was with his mate. Instead, she wrapped her arm around his neck and kissed him.
“Hey, baby.” She cooed. I was still waiting for Vincent to tell her off, but instead, he kissed her back. Both of them turned to look at me. I stood still, blinking like a fool. “Who is she, Vin?”
I felt a bit hopeful as I locked eyes with Vincent, begging him with every fiber in me not to turn away from me now. He is my only hope.
“Our new maid.” He uttered with conviction.
“M…maid?” I stuttered. “Y…you mean to say Mate right?” I inquired in a shaky voice.
“Do you have a death wish?” He growled and the lady giggled. “Better not do anything stupid.” Vincent hissed making for the door with the lady hand in hand.
Still in disbelief, I hurried after them, reaching for Vincent to tell him this can’t be the end. I cannot afford to be locked away again while Richard lives freely.
“Vin…” he didn’t let the words leave my lips before shoving me away like I was some piece of paper.
“Touch me one more time and I will make your entire life miserable.” He sneered, walking away.
My legs wobbled, giving way to the ground as tears blinded me, his words ripping me into shreds.
ClaraI practically fell on my knees scraping it against the rough ground when I got to him. My scream must have gotten the attention of Calvin and Derek. I felt their shadow around me.“Alex? Alex, please say something?” I sobbed, picking him off the ground onto my thigh.“Let’s get him to the clinic.” Calvin offered, bending to take him off my hand.Just then Alex opened his eyes abruptly, showing off his fine dentition.“Tada!” He exclaimed, jumping to his feet. “I knew you were going to be shocked. So nice to see you worried, I thought you said you didn’t care about me?” He questioned, laughing.“Alex! Why would you do that? When will you quit being so silly? You scared me!” I rebuked, fighting back the smile tugging at my lips.Alex grinned sheepishly and kissed
ClaraMy palms feel sweaty. Even though I have been working for days on the herbs and hoping it comes out well,I can’t shake off the feeling that it might not be good enough. Different trials have been done and most were a mess. I finally got a bit that seems like it might work and I can’t sit still. I had texted Derek to come take a look and have a feel of the products to be sure I am on the right track. I kept glancing at the entrance in wait for him.I had baked some cookies alongside the skincare lotion I made. Both of them infused with herbs and Kade it set up in front of the clinic. I probably didn’t need to go this far since it is just him. But I remember my mum always saying whatever one has to do, doing it well is all that counts.Janet placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “You don’t have to be so worked up. It is only the first production and I think you did a good job. Whateve
Calvin“What happened to your thumb?” Mum asked, reaching for the hand to take a look at it.I eased it out of her grip gently. “I am fine. It was just a slight wound.”“How can you call that slight when it looks this serious?”I chuckled, if only she had seen it when it was still fresh. Since it wasn’t bandaged I had called Janet when the sun came up. She had only wrapped it up saying Clara already did a good job. Playfully asking if I doubt Clara’s ability to do a clean treatment. I wasn’t sure if doubt is what I feel or I am just being stubborn to admit to it because I fear it would mean I am accepting her as my mate. But then, sharing the workshop with her lately makes me feel slightly different about her.During the early hours of today when I arrived at the workshop and she wasn’t there I found myself glancing back
ClaraMy head ached from the incessant hit of the hammer on the nail. I could barely sleep because my body didn’t feel right and I hoped working on the herbs since I was nearing a positive result would make me feel better and I would finally get to sleep. But fate seems to have something against my peace of mind. Not only did I find my nemesis in the workshop, but he seems to be on a rage trip. Taking it all out on the woods. Calvin has split several woods in two, dumping them on the ground and reaching for another one. He wouldn’t stop hitting until they are too weak to take on his hammering blows.“fuck!” he cursed, kissing his teeth in irritation.I shook my head at the sight, he had slammed the hammer on his thumb and it looked like it was shattered, coated in his own blood. That thumb is definitely fractured. I sucked my teeth in disbelief, he is quite character I have to give him that. Just
Calvin“aunt Janice!” I bellowed, closing up the space between us while mum called out to me from behind. No one understands why I do not like her being around, they think I am just being too much when the truth is that she is a bad influence to keep close. All my life, I have seen my mother play small for aunt janice to shine. Just because she was the reason my parents met and mum wasn’t on the same status as my dad. her father was a merchant and that doesn’t seem to be enough for my aunt. She always puts her down, projecting her insecurities on my mother and she also always the nonsense to happen all because she regards her as my dad’s sister. Not to mention a major part of the royal household. This has gone on for years and got worse after my dad’s death. I saw her deception a long time ago, which is why I have never hesitated to call her out on her bullshit. But my mum will beg on
Calvin“you can quit staring.” My wolf drawled.I scoffed, keeping my eyes on the wood that I was working on. “why would you think I am staring at her?”“I only told you to quit. Didn’t mention who you were looking at.” He retorted.I kissed my teeth in irritation knowing what he was trying to do. Its already morning, the sun is all out in its glory and I cant believe I have been on my toes since the middle of the night. My ego must have gotten the best of me seeing how I refused to back away just because she was working. Despite the evident exhaustion on her face and the failed trials at whatever it is she was putting together, I knew that from her mumblings to herself. Clara didn’t stop working, she kept on until she achieved a bit of success and that seemed to be her final call to take a break.I should have left a while ago. But
