When Lara returned to their table, Reagan looked up immediately, his eyes scanning her face with concern. As she slipped back into her seat, his hand instinctively found its way to her thigh beneath the tablecloth, his thumb brushing slow, comforting circles against her skin.

“You were gone for a while,” he said quietly, leaning in. “Everything alright?”

Lara gave him a small, reassuring smile. “Yeah. I just ran into my brother. We ended up talking for a bit.”

She purposely left out the part about running into Lucas and their brief conversation. The last thing she wanted was to worry Reagan tonight.

His eyes searched her face, as if trying to read beneath her calm tone. “Is everything okay with him?”

She placed her hand gently over his, the one resting on her leg, and gave it a soft squeeze. “Everything’s fine. You don’t have to worry.”

He studied her for a second longer before finally nodding and exhaling a breath of relief. “Okay.”

Lara’s gaze briefly flicked across the ballroom—and

Lara let out a soft sigh. “I don’t plan on having a real relationship with him. That was never the plan.”Ali narrowed her eyes. “Why not? Are you saying you don’t like him? Because, honey, you’re a terrible liar.”Lara looked away. “I do,” she admitted. “Of course I do. I’m attracted to him—I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t. But that’s not enough, Ali. I’m still… healing. I’m not whole. I’m still figuring out who I am outside of Lucas. I don’t want to jump into something real with him just because I feel some attraction. It wouldn’t be fair to Reagan.”Ali’s expression softened.“I don’t want to hurt him, Ali,” Lara continued, her voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t want to hurt the one person who’s made me feel seen. Who’s shown me what it’s like to be treated right. Reagan deserves someone who’s ready to love fully. Someone who won’t hold back. And right now, that’s not me.”There was a beat of silence.Ali’s voice lowered, concern softening her tone. “So what? You’re just going

The next morning, the sharp, persistent sound of the doorbell jolted Lara awake. She groaned, burying her face deeper into the pillow. Just five more minutes… But the ringing didn’t stop. Whoever was at her door clearly had no intention of leaving anytime soon. With a heavy sigh, she reached blindly for her phone on the nightstand. What time is it anyway? The screen lit up: 9:02 AM. And three unread messages blinked back at her—all from Ali.Ali [8:02 AM]: I’m on my way to your place. You owe me an explanation.Ali [8:51 AM]: I’m here. Open up.Ali [9:00 AM]: Are you seriously still asleep? I’m not stopping until you open this door!Lara frowned, sitting up slowly, her hair tousled and her head still cloudy. Explanation? What is she even talking about? She didn’t remember owing Ali anything, especially not this early in the morning. She dropped her phone with a sigh, dragging her fingers through her tangled hair before throwing the blanket off and forcing herself out of bed.Still

Lara was just a few steps away from her table when a hand suddenly grabbed her wrist again. Her body tensed instinctively.Did Lucas followed her?Her jaw clenched as she whirled around, ready to lash out—But it wasn’t Lucas. It was Levi.“Kuya?” she breathed. Her brother stood before her, brows slightly furrowed, eyes sharp and unreadable. She blinked, momentarily stunned. “What are you doing here?”“We need to talk,” Levi said calmly, not letting go of her wrist. “Come with me for a second.”There was something serious in his tone that made her stomach twist. He wasn’t angry, but he wasn’t exactly casual either.Without waiting for her response, Levi gently guided her to a quiet corner away from the crowd. Lara’s heart pounded. Did he see her with Lucas earlier? Or... is this about Reagan? Did he see her with him?Once they were out of sight, Levi turned to face her.“What are you doing here, Lara?” he asked, his voice low. “And more importantly… why are you with Reagan Adams?”La

The applause faded as the final item of the auction was won, and the host returned to the stage, smiling as he raised his microphone once again. “And now, for the most important part of the evening,” he announced warmly, “we invite everyone to participate in our call for donations. You may raise your paddles if you’d like to pledge support, or feel free to scan the QR codes placed on your tables. Every amount goes a long way in changing lives.” Guests around the ballroom started raising their paddles once more, some scanned the QR codes while others quietly approached the donation booths on the side. Lara didn’t hesitate. She lifted her paddle and made her contribution. It wasn’t a grand gesture, but it was sincere—her way of supporting a cause that clearly mattered to many in the room. She clapped politely as more guests joined in the donation drive. Shortly after, she leaned toward Reagan. “I’ll just go to the restroom,” she murmured. Reagan nodded. “Alright. Take your time.” L

Soon enough, Ash and Duke slipped into their own world, their whispered banter bouncing between affectionate and sarcastic, like no one else was even there. Lara smiled softly at the sight. There was something comforting about being near people who were unafraid to be themselves. Then she felt something graze her pinky finger. She flinched slightly and turned her head to Reagan, who was now leaning against the table with his elbow propped up. His chin rested on the back of his hand as he looked at her, his green eyes steady, curious, and slightly amused. “What?” Lara asked, her voice soft. “I’m still curious,” Reagan murmured, gently toying with her pinky finger. “What would’ve been your answer to Ash’s question?” Lara blinked. “You’re actually serious about that?” He gave a light shrug, the corner of his lips twitching in amusement. “I want to hear it,” he said, his gaze still on her. “Who do you think is more good-looking, hmm?” His pinky curled lightly around hers. Lara’s h
