Ivory POV

I woke up expecting the world to still be on fire. I expected the whispers to follow me like a dark cloud and the laughter to ring in my ears the moment I stepped onto the school grounds.

But as I walked through the front gates, something was... off.

The atmosphere wasn't heavy or mocking. It was almost like the entire school had collective amnesia. People weren't pointing at me and whispering "easy" or "ho." Instead, I saw strange faces—people I didn't even know—grinning at me.

IVORY POVThe theater was a blur of shadows and the flickering blue light of the TV, but I couldn't have told you what was happening on the screen if my life depended on it. All I could feel was Daniel. He was a mountain of heat behind me, his breath fanning against the shell of my ear. The air in the mansion had grown heavy, thick with the scent of his expensive cologne and the raw, electric tension that had been humming between us since the night we met in that dark alleyway. His hand, large and calloused, slid slowly up the silk of my green dress. He didn't just touch me; he claimed me. His fingers traced the line of my thigh, hitching the fabric higher and higher, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake."You have no idea how long I have been wanting to do this, Ivory," he whispered, his voice dropping into a register so low it made my toes curl.I shivered, my head falling back against his shoulder. "Really... bad boy?" I asked in a tiny, breathless voice. I tried to sound

  • The Vampire King's Mate   36. Aprons and Allies

IVORY POVThe kitchen was a sprawling expanse of stainless steel and white marble, looking more like a set from a cooking show than a home. Before I could even find my footing, Daniel reached out. His hands found my waist, and with a strength that always caught me off guard, he carefully guided me to the center island and gently lifted me up, seating me right on the kitchen counter.I immediately panicked, my heart thudding against my ribs like a trapped bird. Being at eye level with him was dangerous; those deep blue eyes were peering right into mine, and his closeness was literally making me lose my senses."What are you doing?" I squeaked, my hands bracing against the cold marble."Relax, Ma belle," he murmured, his voice a low vibration that I felt in my bones. He reached behind me, grabbing something from a hook. "I just wanted to help you put on your apron. We wouldn't want your gorgeous dress stained, would we?"I cleared my throat, praying for my words to come out eloquent an

  • The Vampire King's Mate   35. Gravels Street

IVORY POVDaniel and I had been inseparable, even if it was only through a screen. We texted every single day, and our video calls would stretch for hours until my phone got hot against my ear. He kept telling me how exhausted he was because his dad was piling a mountain of tasks on him. When I pressed him for details, he got evasive, shifting his phone so I couldn't see the stress in his eyes. I went quiet, giving him a few seconds to just think and breathe. Finally, he admitted it, he was undergoing a brutal crash course in leadership. He was being molded to lead a billion-dollar business empire.A few days later, the text I had been waiting for finally popped up. “Come over to my place tonight. I want to show you something.”I was thrilled. I spent the next four hours raiding my closet, but nothing felt special enough. I ended up dipping into my savings to buy a new fit, some high end makeup, and a pair of heels that made me feel like I was walking on air.The moment I told Mom I w

  • The Vampire King's Mate   34. GO NOW

IVORY POV"Never mind, Mom. It is probably just some kid wearing those creepy glowing contacts to scare people," I said, trying to laugh it off. My heart was still hammering against my ribs, but I desperately wanted it to be a prank."No, it is not, Ivory. Just get inside like I said," she snapped. Her voice didn't sound like her own....it was deeper, more jagged, like a warning growl."But Mom!""Get inside! And in no condition should you come out tonight. I am going to survey the area.""But Mom, that is dangerous! Shouldn't we just call the police instead?" I stepped toward her, reaching for her arm, but I froze."Just get inside!" she barked and then continued. "You are not allowed to come out of the house on any condition. GO NOW!"In the pale moonlight, I could have sworn her eyes flickered, the color shifting into something wild and golden for a split second. She wasn't just looking at the woods; she was sniffing the air, her nostrils flaring as if she were tracking a scent. I

  • The Vampire King's Mate   33. Ivory, Get Inside Now!

Ivory POV The night ended at the very top of the Ferris wheel. Zeke and Alicia were in the car below us, probably arguing over a corn dog, but up here, it was silent. The entire park was laid out beneath us like a map of light.Daniel shifted, sitting closer until our thighs were pressed together. He didn't say anything for a long time; he just looked out at the horizon."Daniel, I have a question?" I blurted out all of a sudden."Your wish is my request kitten," he said and I rolled my eyes at him for calling me that. I might have felt some tingles in my belly when he said that."I have to know," I said, the quiet of the night emboldening me. "Why did you do it? Back at the beginning. Why the hell were you so mean to me?"Daniel went still. He didn't look away, but the intensity in his gaze shifted. He ran a hand through his raven black hair, looking out at the dark expanse of the ocean."Because you wouldn't look at me, Ivory," he admitted, his voice a low, jagged rumble"Every gir

  • The Vampire King's Mate   32. Park Theme Date

IVORY POVThe silence of my bedroom was finally a good kind of silence. No more frantic page turning and reading like my life depended on it, no more scratching of pens against practice exams, and definitely no more looking over my shoulder for the next scandal. We had passed. Not just passed.... it's safe to say that we had crushed it. I was officially a high school graduate and the world didn't feel like a cage anymore. I have called Gav and told him about it and he was so happy to hear that. He couldn't wait for me to come back to the diner since he has a whole lot of things to tell me.Alicia was currently sprawled across my bed, her legs kicked up against the headboard, scrolling through her phone like it was her full time job. Judging by the way she is currently texting.... She probably is talking to Zeke right now.We were supposed to be having a "girls' night," which usually involved face masks and gossip, but Alicia had that look in her eye. The one that meant she was plottin

Ivory POV “Gav!” I hissed again, my voice a desperate, low frequency vibration. No answer. The kitchen door had swung shut, leaving me alone in the line of fire. The bell above the door was still vibrating, a tiny, tinny sound that felt like a death knell in the sudden silence of the diner.“Good

  • The Vampire King's Mate   9. Soaked. Pathetic. Miserable.

IVORY'S POVSoaked. Pathetic. Miserable. Those were the three words that summed up my life as I stood up from the bench, my clothes clinging to me like a second skin and rain dripping from my hair like a leaking faucet. The world felt like it was mocking me—gray skies, gray heart, gray everything.

  • The Vampire King's Mate   24. Expelled?

Ivory POV I tried to drift back into the darkness, but the sharp smell of rubbing alcohol wouldn't let me. I slowly peeled my eyes open, only to find Dr. Lana….the school’s blunt, no-nonsense doctor standing over me. She was clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth as she checked the dark

  • The Vampire King's Mate   20. Save It

Ivory POV I skipped my first class. I couldn't do it. I couldn't walk into a room full of people who had spent the last hour dissecting a photo of my tongue down the throat of the school’s most dangerous guy.I retreated to the only place I felt safe….a cramped, flickering stall in the third-floor
