Can't Fall In Love

NICHOLAS' POV

I woke up quite early the next morning and met Diana still fast asleep and still very naked I had to cover her up with the blanket.

I couldn't help staring into her beautiful face and I was tempted to touch it.

"She's such a sleeping beauty, right?" Louis asked and I quickly withdrew my hand which was on its way to touching her face.

"I don't know what you're talking about." I retorted before I hastily stood up and hurried to the washroom.

I quickly washed up and changed into my work outfit which was a pair of black Jean trousers and a black leather T-shirt in the form of a jacket.

Ever since the king left the palace, my workload increased as I had to guide his Chambers personally and prevent anyone including the princess from going in since I was the only one in the palace who knew about his travel.

Just as I was putting on my black sneakers, my phone which was just beside Diana started buzzing off and I hurriedly ran to pick it up hoping it wouldn't wake her up.

Why did I do that? Why would I care if her sleep is disturbed or not? I'm sure my wolf didn't come out. That was just me acting awkward.

My attention went back to my phone as I noticed the call was from the head guard at the king's chambers and I remembered giving them a stern instruction to contact me in case anyone wanted to visit the king in my absence.

"Who could it be?" I wondered as I tightened the twine of my shoes and sprinted off to the King's Chamber.

I stood behind a man in his early 50s wearing a royal robe that covered his peaches-cream skin and his long gray hair loosely splaying backward and I knew exactly who it was.

The King's younger brother and also The Grand Duke - Ruiz Rivera, angrily paced about the hallway of the King's Chambers for being delayed in entering the King's chamber.

"Good day my Lord." I greeted as I bowed slightly in front of the Grand Duke but he did not bother to return the greeting and just went straight to the point.

"Why the hell would the King give such stupid rights to you?" Grand Duke Ruiz lashed out and I assumed the guards already informed him he couldn't go in.

"I'd have to be his Highness to know that, My Lord but as for now, I'm not. To what do we owe this graceful appearance?" I asked curiously, trying my best to be a humble human which I'm not.

"I have to see the King…I heard he's been postponing all meetings, I need to find out if he's doing just fine." The Grand Duke groaned.

"I apologize for the inconvenience, my Lord but I'm afraid it's not possible today," I replied sternly, narrowing my eyes at him.

If he were a werewolf, he'd have been subdued by my aura but to humans, I just disrespected him.

"How dare you? Did I just hear you say that while narrowing your eyes at me? Are you out of your goddamn mind?" Grand Duke asked angrily, clenching his fists tightly.

"I'm sorry my Lord. You might choose to misinterpret my body language, but as for the order of the king, I'm only a helpless follower." I said, trying my possible best to conceal the anger that was welling inside of him.

If this man doesn't leave in peace, he might be taken away in pieces.

"And that same king is my brother, so tell those damn guards to step away from the door and let me in." Grand Duke scolded.

"I'm sorry but no one, not even the princess is allowed in until the King says otherwise," I replied.

"Is the King available at all? Did he travel or something?" The Grand Duke asked, surprising the hell out of me but I tried my best to compose myself and think of another lie to tell when the door suddenly opened from behind and an older man in his late 50s, pushed his black thick but short hair through the door and narrowed his deep brown eyes at us before stepping out and we all bowed to him.

"What's all this ruckus about?" King Rivera asked as he rubbed his hand against his sleepy face.

How did he get in? What is this king up to? How long has he been back? Well, it doesn't matter. What matters now is that very soon, he'll be gone forever and then I can finally return home.

"Uhmmm…Sorry for…the inconveniences, Your Highness…" Grand Duke stuttered as he was also quite as flustered as I was.

"I was worried…you might be sick since you've barely shown your face for two days straight." He completed.

"You didn't have to be so noisy, you just interrupted a good sleep I was having." The King blamed as he patted my back and gestured me to leave.

"If you're here to see me, come in already." I heard him instruct the Grand Duke before I finally disappeared from his Chambers.

I returned to my room and to my surprise, Diana was out of bed and the bed was also well spread.

I felt a sudden emptiness in my heart but I ignored it since my heart has been having weird feelings lately without my permission.

It's a relief she left anyway. I wouldn't have to put up with her unnecessary conversations.

I laid back flat on my bed, brought out my phone, and dialed Ava's number on a video call but just when I attempted to speak with her, I perceived Diana's heavenly scent again and just then, she appeared in front of me with a broad grin on her face and a coffee cup in her hands.

Looks like she didn't feel much pain today.

"Why are you still here?" I frowned.

She walked closer to me and handed out the coffee to me. "What is this about?" I wondered as I took a sip off the coffee but her next statement made me choke on it and unintentionally spew it in her.

"Does this mean we're now a couple?" She asked, still maintaining her grin.

"Just when I thought you can't be any dumber." I lamented in disgust.

but Diana just stared at me in confusion.

All my life I've never seen anyone as dumb as she was and I can't help but wonder why the moon goddess decided to make her my mate. Mates we're supposed to be a gift or so I heard.

Nevertheless, it doesn't matter because I already forsook the moon goddess and so will I forsake her burden of a gift.

I dropped the coffee on the table beside my bed and walked closer to her and when I was close enough, I bent slightly to her height and whispered to her ear.

"Last night was just like two nights ago when you forced yourself on me." I reminded.

"I already told you…I can never love you. I'm fascinated that you're interested in me but it can never be the same for me. You're not my type. I don't go out with someone as cheap as you are." I explained until I was sure she understood my perspective.

I stood back erect and looked straight into Diana's eyes which were now glowing in tears. "I would rather be a monk," I added as a mischievous smile sprouted across my face.
