JOSH POV

I wake up to a type of consciousness that feels like dream but also incredibly real and lifelike. I am aware of my body, and I pinch my arm to check if I’m asleep. It hurts so this could be real, but I don’t put a lot of stock into that hooey. I’ve been in pain in my nightmares before, even when it was self-inflicted.

I don’t recognize where I am, but I really can’t see anything to know where I could be. I am surrounded by a soft iridescent, foggy light, and yet

JOSH POV Seemingly to appear out of nowhere, a lovely woman is walking toward us from the far distance. She is quite tall, with deep ebony hair and sparkly silver eyes that shine in an inhuman way. Maddie stands from my lap and gives a little curtsy when the woman is closer. “Mother Goddess.” She greets the woman formally, and I use the moment to take another look at the shifter world’s revered deity. Her beautiful gown is in a Grecian style and perfectly encapsulates her body. It’s a gorgeous shiny white, with silver cords wrapped around her waist, crisscrossing up her torso to just under her bust and little silver gathers in the same silver cords on the tops of her shoulders. Her skin is pale. Very pale. But not pasty or undead looking, just lacking the melanin from sunshine. And she’s barefoot as she’s walking through her meadow. The tall grasses and flowers move and bend sideways from her path, as if she were Moses parting the Red S

It hurts so this could be real, but I don’t put a lot of stock into that hooey. I’ve been in pain in my nightmares before, even when it was self-inflicted. I don’t recognize where I am, but I really can’t see anything to know where I could be. I am surrounded by a soft iridescent, foggy light, and yet, the darkness is still all-consuming in the distance. The color of the atmosphere reminds me of those foreboding moments just before a hail storm or an impending tornado, when the sky is a dark reddish grey green, but also annoyingly bright. However, the mood here is different than that, it is comforting and warm instead of scary and angry. I know I’m not standing on anything. I can’t see my feet, but I sense no pressure of gravity or ground beneath my soles. I feel like I’m suspend

MADDIE POV I feel Infinity contentedly purring within my chest as I reluctantly wake from the best sleep I’ve had since I kicked Josh out of the pack and barred him from my life. I don’t want to open my eyes because I’m truly happy to sit here and be lazy with my mate. We’re in a slightly reclined position that most hospital beds seem to stay in, but this time I find it is the most comfortable position I’ve been in for a long while. I fight the urge and habit of opening my eyes as soon as I wake. If I open my eyes, that means the real world will descend sooner than I’d like it to, and as far as I’m concerned, the real world can fuck right the hell off for a while. I deeply inhale Josh’s Nutella brownie scent and nuzzle into his chest. His laughter reverberates up through his body, creating a comforting rumble inside his torso. “Trying to get my scent to rub onto you, love?” He asks as he kisses my head and pulls me in tighter, making me

JOSH POV Maddie freezes on my lap. She blinks at me, probably in shock from my proposal. For a moment she looks like the absolute cutest little owl with her wide, bright emerald eyes, then a huge smile blooms on her face. She barely gets “yes” out of her mouth before she starts kissing me. At first, it’s a sweet, loving, happy kiss; with her hands gently caressing my cheeks. But as the moments pass, the intensity amps up. She slides her hands to the back of my head and grips me firmer and she deepens the kiss. Her tongue dominates my mouth, barely letting either of us come up for air. My hands begin to roam, and I moan in desire when my hands meet bare skin. For a moment, I had forgotten all she has on is a hospital gown. A growl reverberates through the room. I have no idea if it came from me or her but right this minute, I don’t give a fuck where it came from. The hospital gown goes flying behind her onto the bed after I rip it off her. Maddie yan

JOSH POV It takes Maddie a minute to pull her eyes from the hospital room doorway where her family just exited. When she does, she stares down at her clasped hands in her lap, not making eye contact with me. Her face is blank and I have no idea what she’s thinking. Although, I feel like I can feel her sadness and longing, which is so weird. But during the two months I spent here full time, I got used to, what most would consider weird, being totally normal in the pack. I haven’t been able to take my eyes off of her this whole time. Not even when Tyson and everyone came in. Two weeks has felt like a lifetime, waiting for her to wake up. It only took about 24 hours for the drug to totally flush out of her system, but then when Theo and Nolan said they couldn’t bring her out of their magically created induced coma, I went into a tail spin. I had a panic attack, the first one ever for me. I know I cried and begged her to come back; to not get lost insid

MADDIE POV “Maddie, Infinity, please wake up. I need you. I can’t live without you.” “Fin, do you hear that?” I ask. I have no idea how long we have been hugging and comforting each other. Part of me wants to stay here, in the embrace of my wolf counterpart, where I feel safe, loved and accepted. But the other part, the bigger part, wants to do as this voice is asking. To wake up and see their face. “I hear him. I am so angry with him, but I also miss him.” She says back, with a sad little growl that reverberates within my chest. “Why do I want to do as he’s asking?” I wonder out loud. “He’s our mate, Mads. We want to please him.” I think about her words, and I realize I recognize the voice. It’s Josh. “Why is he here? He cheated on us.” The heartbreak comes back ten-fold. “I don’t know, but I think he’s been here a long time. We’ve been sleeping and gaining strength for a while. I’ve got control again,
