Chapter 42 - Burning Light

The events that took place were all just a little too surreal. I was still having a hard time believing that the six dragon elders simply washed their hands of their long-standing duties, leaving the deities in complete charge of their hemispheres. But I suppose when you've gone so long living a lie about things that you stopped believing in, and losing children because of those things, you stop caring. Funny how the fear to stand up for what's right leaves one's mind once others are willing to do the same.

The elder dragons all made their way back to their homes to take care of business, while the rest of us did the same. Once we were just a few hours from home, we decided to rent an SUV big enough to seat the seven of us comfortably and drive the rest of the way back. It was simply easier than trying to fly into the city as exhausted as we were.

I was honestly enjoying the ride as I leaned onto Levi and he wrapped his arm around me. Everything finally felt .... right.
