The on-repeat dream of the last conversation she had with her late mother made it hard for Iyya to keep asleep.
Iyya was up already. And the day had finally ended, and it was now nighttime, and she did not want to close her eyes anymore.
The last conversation she had with her late mother was going to come back again in her sleep. It scared her so much. She thought it was way better to stay awake than to sleep again.
She was up looking at the sky. Mesmerized by the midnight sky, with the wolf sound asleep beside her. Suddenly, she heard movements.
Looking to the side. She then saw torch lights moving closer and coming in their way.
The Park Rangers had found them.
With fear clouding her, she pinched the wolf through its fur using her claws. To wake the wolf up. Just what she expected from this wolf. That she now knew to be as much a human as she was. When the wolf shot, its eyes opened.
Looking straight at the torchlight, moving closer. The wolf hurriedly picked her up. Put her back on its back. And the running began again.
***
It had been a night of running through the Serengeti and when the sun went up, the morning light came into Iyya's eyes.
She did not believe what she saw in front of her eyes. There was a sign showing the beginning of Serengeti Park.
Finally, they made it to the Serengeti Park gate.
Finally, they were almost making it out of the park.
The joy Iyya was feeling made her want to fly off the wolf's back. But she stayed put.
If she was in her human form, she would jump up high to celebrate the milestone.
The human settlement was so close within their grasp of a few miles.
No more wild animals and no more Park Rangers.
They survived.
They made it.
But wait…. When she thought about it longer, she shouted in her mind. No....!
She was back in déjà vu. Back to Park Ranger, sirens and gunshots will come on their way. As soon as they come face to face with people outside the park.
The people will surely report the wolf that left the park to the park authorities. It was safe for her in the human settlement. She would be treated as a domestic bird, but the wolf would be in total danger.
Still studying the wolf, it was clear its thoughts were more like a human and a clever human. It would not be here without a plan.
Iyya chose to believe there was a plan in place.
It was time for Iyya to live in the suspense of what would happen next.
On the last bush just before the gate. Before, they walked out into the opening.
Suddenly, Iyya felt her body being lowered to the ground.
She stood still, waiting impatiently, a lot of thoughts running through her mind. What was next? What would she do to get back to Zanzibar?
What did she need to do to meet her stepmom as soon as possible? She had tried to meet her for the last five years and failed!
What was different now?
That was a very hard question, but there was one slight opening of hope for that.
There was no longer the watchman watching her twenty-four-seven.
In the coming few days, during the time of the month, she would have a shot at communication.
She would have a way out to ask for help. But that won’t be happening now until later in days to come.
Until then, she needed to survive, and she could wait.
She could wait patiently as long as she was not in ZALA or the Serengeti Safari Park trying to survive the deadly animals. There was hope.
Iyya turned her eyes back to her environment. Planning to say her last goodbyes to the wolf. She felt bad, but that was it. They will all need to walk their separate paths from now on.
She desperately needed to meet Heina and if that meant walking out of this safari park with or without this wolf. She was walking out either way.
But before she could do anything. What she saw made her eyes almost poke out of her socket balls.
Her feathers stood up. She felt panic take over.
She didn't believe what was happening. She tried to understand, but couldn't.
At first, she thought something had hit the wolf and broken its bones, probably the park rangers who had finally found them.
But scanning the area, there was no one around and the sounds of consecutive breaking of bones on their own inside the wolf's body told her otherwise.
The wolf growled in pain, the paws on the ground, bones cracking consecutively, again and again, the chest forced into a bending position.
The head raised looking at the sky, knees forming as they pushed the wolf lower onto the ground. As the wolf breathed in pain, it looked like it was about to die.
Iyya looked into the wolf's eyes. Not knowing how to help. They had tears and had got diluted in color, changing their gold color to red, then black.
The black paled and then they became human, blue-colored eyes, the color of the ocean. She took a step back, scared more.
More growls came out of its chest. The sounds had now changed, and it was more of a human-pained voice than a growl.
Iyya then darted her eyes to the paws on the ground, which in seconds no longer existed, replaced with a human hand, fingers, and human fingernails.
The human now held the ground with all the force he could gather to balance himself.
He shook, each piece of the bone in his body clacking and coming out of its socket behind the now-forming skin.
His legs, which were now visible, tried to balance him on the ground, and more pained cries came out of him.
The total transformation was almost finished. The long black hair, the hands, and the legs were all visible.
The face shifted, and the body shifted as the fur hid behind the human skin completely. The whole scenario scared and excited Iyya at the same time.
She was now looking at a gorgeous human man, the most handsome she had met yet. He transformed from a wolf in front of her eyes to a human.
A human.
No…Not a human, but a werewolf.
And the last conversation with her late mother this time around hit another nod in her mind.
The probability of what she said turning into the truth scared Iyya.
She could hear the voice of her late mother ringing in her head as she said, “We are weredragons. We are the last living dragons on this earth.”
“Do you mean we can change into dragons and fly in the air?”
“Yes…. Iyya, we can shapeshift into dragons.”
“But why haven't I seen you or anyone shapeshifting all my life, mama?”
“Because not everyone has been as blessed as we are. We… Iyya... come from a long line of weredragons. We have been given the greatest gift of all.
“We are born from fire with the extraordinary ability to breathe it out from our lungs. We are the only beings who can hold and contain that large amount of fire.
“When I was younger, I believed my gift was a curse. We thought the best way was to eliminate it.
“So did my parents and their parents. Hence, I was fine with cutting off my legs and arms. And clocking my dragon to bind it away.
“Our power comes from our heart, the heart of the dragon, but our strength comes from our legs and hands. My legs and hands would make me fly. And I did not want to.
“That kind of power would make me too strong. A threat to all humanity. It would make everyone haunt me out of the fear of the future.
“It would make werewolves and witches do the impossible to haunt me and kill me. And I did not want that life for myself.”
***Two days ago, In America“I can’t kill her. Please, Trajan, you need to stop this.” Grace held on tight to Trajan. And he pushed her off his body, shouting. “GET OUT!”Grace studied her fated mate, Trajan, and wondered why he was too consumed with being Alpha King. It was as if he lived to be just that. He breathed, slept, and walked, only to find a way to be Alpha King and nothing else mattered. This was so unlike any werewolf that ever existed. He is the first person in Grace’s whole life who has met his fated mate, and his fated mate wasn't a priority.Grace worried something was wrong with him because no werewolves could control themselves with a mate attraction, but he did so well even without trying hard.Everything Trajan did to her made her want to die. It was so painful, and she wanted it all to stop. Her wolf always encouraged her to forgive him.Her wolf believed he would come around sometime. “My love…I don’t know yet how to do spells. I love being a werewolf and alt
“Have you forgotten what Alpha Billnas said? This man tried to rape your mate today. If Alpha Billnas was late for a second, he would have raped her. Do we have to bring him along?”Joshua spoke, looking at the watchman who sat in the lower front of Xendy’s fast jet. Xendy sitting beside Joshua, was lost in thought. He was worried sick about Iyya. Iyya had not stopped crying, nor had she not stopped trying to flee. However, comfortingly, he spoke to her. She was not listening to him or anyone.Joshua’s concern made Xendy turn his mind back to the current situation. He did not like it either that he was bringing the watchman along to America, but he needed the watchman.“Josh…. Without that man’s help, we would not have found Iyya in Zanzibar as we found her that easily. Until now, we would still have been searching all over that island for her with no success.“He was able to relocate her for us in her hiding within a few minutes. Letting his human mind take over helped us a lot in fi
The busy tourists moving along the roads, and the smell of small ball-shaped rice pancakes. Commonly known as Vitumbua, the smell wanted to break Iyya’s heart, which was already broken.Iyya remembered the last time she had passed through these streets five years ago. When she was smiling the best smile. She wondered if she would ever get close to that smiley face and free spirit again. She knew her way through these streets. Whoever was after her would not have it easy finding her. Because Iyya started to know her way along these roads way too early in her life. She had started to sell rice pancakes Vitumbua to make money at five years old. And with all the life she had lived with her parents, selling Vitumbua made her an expert in all corners of these streets. That’s why the smell of Vitumbua hit her differently. Because it was one of the few memories of her life attached to her mind.Iyya sold Vitumbua, the Swahili name for unique ball-shaped rice pancakes, to make money to help he
Iyya found herself in a heart-pounding chase for her life. She turned around, spotting the thick forest up ahead that she had just run through earlier with Xendy. And made a desperate dash towards the thick forest. And after just a second, she ran desperately to the forest. A huge wolf was coming out of the thick forest she was heading into, and it was running up to her.Out of instinct, Iyya hurriedly put her wings up to fly. But before she could fly high, the wolf also jumped up high, aiming to catch her midair, causing Iyya to stumble, losing balance in the air.And she ended up falling back to the beach sands.Fuck!! What was with the wolves? They were after me in Serengeti and now in Zanzibar! Was it written that she would die at the hands of wolves? Iyya questioned herself. The wolf in front of her stood ready to attack her again. Later, again, it jumped after her and missed. The scenario she had just gone through told her the danger she was in.She had thought that running away
Iyya had been lost in the memories of the first time she met her stepmother. She remembered that time many years ago when she met Heina for the first time. That unfortunate day Iyya was coming out of school. And found a very nice car parked and waiting for her at the school gate, and at first instinct she wanted to run away. ‘No kid should get into unknown cars on their way home.’ She took those security lessons she had learned from her teachers at heart, but to her surprise, she heard her father’s voice from the parked car calling her. And turned back, walked to the car and, after assuring herself it was truly her father in the car. She entered the car that day and it was the beginning of a newly transformed life for her and her father. Mr. Khamsini had found an American woman, ‘Heina’- who he claimed he was in love with. She had been so nice to him and Iyya, too. In the six months of their relationship with Heina. Iyya, Mr. Khamsini, and Heina were living together as a love-fill
Graced walked into Trajan's room without a knock on the door. She looked at the trashed room with broken glass of flowerpots and the flowers scattered all over the floor.Which told her how angry he was. Trajan sat on his bed, his back on the bed frame, wearing black sweatpants with an open chest as he drank from the bottle of wine.In her eyes, he was the most handsome man to walk the earth.Alcohol already wasted him, with red eyes radiating anger. He didn't spare her a glance as she walked in. She was used to that. It had been a month since she found out he was her mate. But the look in his eyes said it all. She was disappointed, and she felt sad.“Why did you come here? I told you not to follow me. Your fuck buddy is back. You should warm his bed now.” He shouted at her.She dropped her gaze, hiding the tears threatening her eyes as she murmured. “Why did the moon goddess choose for me a fated mate that didn't value me or love me as all other mates do?”Grace rubbed off her tears
“You killed your mother, Xendy. You know it. The pack knows it. Everyone in here knows it.” The human Counsellor Alex, interrupted and Xendy ignored him.Trajan’s first attempt to take over the crown was when he framed Xendy for killing his own mother. The previous Luna and his stepmother he failed tremendously. It did not go as he had planned it.Because of the death of Alpha Allen's mate, Trajan's stepmother, the death took a toll on their father, and he committed suicide one year later.Trajan thought it was a well-planned situation. All King Allen needed was a reason, a push to hate Xendy. Renounce him and make Trajan the new heir to the crown. But the old man disappointed Trajan again. He lost his mind. And committed suicide. Leaving behind the Pack that hated their new Alpha for killing their previous Luna.“Do you think that conversation matters now, Xendy? That is not the reason we are all here. But if you need a reminder. I will remind you. You are the Alpha King that killed
“And why is that?” Trajan spoke as he walked into the council meeting hall, with Grace following right behind him. “So, are you going to marry my daughter?!” Aunt Naina’s eyes traveled from her daughter standing behind Trajan to Xendy as she spoke. “Mother, stop…” Grace shouted. And Trajan turned to her with a warning look. Which made her drop her gaze. “I am so sorry, aunt Naina…I can’t stretch enough on how sorry I am. You took me under your wing after my parents died and to repay your kindness. “I humiliated you in front of the whole pack like that during the last haze. It was an accident. It happens to all the unmated werewolves. “And we all understand that. With Alpha powers, I think you all thought I could control it. But Aunt Naina, you of all people know I survived all the haze seasons before on wolfbane. “I am not trying to put you on a spot, and this might sound like an excuse, but I truly never meant to hurt either of you. “I already ask for your forgiveness, and I am
With disbelief all over all the council members’ faces. Xendy studied each of their minds, one after the other. And before he could get to the third member's mind, the voice he hated cut his thought's thought-reading process short. “Woah... where have you been hiding? We thought you were dead.”The first member of the council spoke with a voice of disgust and a fake smile plastered on his face. He was Counsellor Alex, a human with a werewolf's mate.He was the most corrupt council member that Xendy knew. His biggest power then was being able to withstand the Alpha's power because he was human, and the Alpha's power never affected humans.Xendy's power back then, before the upgrade, never affected him. But now Xendy could read through everything in his corrupt mind.Xendy felt disgusted by Counsellor Alex’s thoughts.“Is it because we want to swear in your stepbrother on the crown that you have found the audacity to show up? Don’t you have any shame left in you after what you did to th
