"Jakes!" I called as I ran down the stairs.

Jake stopped in his tracks but didn't turn to look at me. Some of the younger Pack members who had not yet left for school stopped briefly to stare at us.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"I haven't slept since yesterday"

Her expressionless face made me feel even more guilty. I bit my lip and nodded slightly. "Then tonight?" I asked hopefully.

'Please?"

My question was answered with a faint nod.

"Okay, good night," I replied slowly.

Jake suddenly took a deep breath and folded his arms. "Cara, I don't hate you, so wipe that pitiful face of yours. What makes me angry is Alex- well, I'm a little annoyed at you too for being so stubborn, but I understand your reasons. I hope you can understand my reasons against that plan as well."

Of course I understand, for Jake the interests of this Pack take precedence over his personal interests, and he expects the same from Alex as this Alpha Pack.
