[CW- This chapter includes body horror. Please look after yourself while reading.]

Blinding light filled Peggy’s vision. She shielded her eyes and then looked back at where the rogue had been. Icy blue runes filled her vision. The rogue snapped and thumped against the runic shield. Eli winced as he tried to keep up the magic.

“Snap out of it!” Eli shouted. Peggy looked at them and then stepped back from the shield and started running up the hill.

EEEEEUUGH!!!

Eli winced as the rogue headbutted the rune. They were pushed slightly into the soil and grass. They took a shuddering breath, their chest filling with the cold air of the North.

“Come on, come on,” they growled, barely holding up the shield.

Yonus launched at the rogue, knocking it to its side. Nieve launched next to him, aiming for the chin of the rogue.

Crunch

“Keep going!” Eli screamed. Yonus nodded, launching himself at the chin, too. The rogue tried to right itself, scrabbling against the floor, its ribs rattling as it attempted to breathe in deeper. There was no more space in its shriveled organs to take in breath.

Nieve jumped in to hit it again.

This time, the rogue managed to put its hand up to protect its throat. Nieve's jaws clamped down into the thickened bones of its hand. Nieve growled, his fangs stuck in bones and dried cartilage.

Yonus went to attack again and got swatted away, skidding up the hill. He landed next to Peggy, who yelped as she looked down at him.

“Mik-?” she started, but Yonus shook his head and growled as he stood.

“Keep running,” Yonus said psychically to her before running back down toward the rogue again. Peggy froze, having never heard anyone speak in her mind before. She didn’t have time to process this and began sprinting away again.

Yonus skidded down the hill, aiming for Eli.

“Springboard!” Yonus shouted to Eli in his mind. Eli nodded, standing wide and crouching slightly, holding the shield over their head. Nieve watched and threw his body weight to the side, pulling the rogue to the side with him.

Yonus sprinted, jumped on the shield, and used the momentum to leap at the rogue’s chin again.

With a sickening crack, the rogue’s head split from its body, rolling down the hill behind it. The body fell limp, crumpling in on itself. Yonus’s body flew over with the head, and he skidded down the hill with it, his fur unable to protect his skin from the friction burn.

“Shit, shit, SHIT!” he shouted as the treeline rapidly came toward him.

CRASH

Yonus slammed into a tree. Pain radiated through his back and around his shoulder.

Peggy gasped as pain shot through her. She fell to her knees over the crest of the hill.

“What… What the fuck?” she coughed out, gripping at the grass.

Yonus groaned. Eli started skidding toward him, but he shook his head.

“Peggy…” he growled.

“She ran away, she’s ok,” Eli said into Yonus’s mind.

“No, she’s hurt,” he panted. Eli hesitated, looking between Yonus and where they knew Peggy had run to.

“Go to her…” Yonus panted, slowly righting himself.

“You can feel her pain?” Eli asked, their eyes intense. Yonus looked up at them.

“... Yes,” he growled. Eli’s eyes widened.

“Oh… Oh, it’s not just a crush…” Eli whispered.

“No,” Yonus panted. Eli hesitated, then backed up and ran over the hill to Peggy. They found her on her knees, breathless.

“Can rogues do some kind of psychic blast of pain?” she asked.

“Nope,” Eli said, running down and wrapping her arm around their shoulder. “I’ll get you back to the top and do some healing. Mikael needs to deal with the rogue a little and Nieve-”

They froze as they got to the top of the hill and realised that Nieve was still by the rogue body. He glared up at them.

“A little help?” Nieve asked, although because his fangs were still stuck, it sounded like “a liffle helf?”

Eli burst out laughing. It was a high, slightly hysterical laughter that spoke of frayed nerves and too much adrenaline.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," they gasped. "It's just, after all that…"

Peggy just watched in disbelief, shaking her head.

“How the hell do we get him out of that?” she asked, her back still aching.

“Good question!” Eli cackled. Peggy sighed and wiped a hand down her face. Her hands were still shaking with adrenaline. She took a shuddering breath and looked down to where Yonus was. He had transformed back into Mikael, his dark skin sheened with sweat as he started digging a hole. She heard a rattling noise and realised that the rogue skull was still moving, shuffling toward Mikael and gnashing its teeth.

“Should we tell him?” she asked Eli, pointing down toward Mikael. They both watched as he smacked the skull with the flat of his shovel.

“I think he’s got it,” Eli said. "... At least I hope so."

Please take care of yourself while reading.]Peggy’s heart thundered in her chest as she looked down at her foot on the runes. She swallowed hard and forced herself to keep some modicum of calm.Fear would kill her.Panic would kill her. What wouldn’t kill her?She glanced around the room. She couldn’t actually be sure about the answer to that question.“... Fuck it,” she whispered and opened the mind link to Mikael.“Peggy? What the fuck is happening?” Mikael asked.“Get Eli in the mind link thing,” Peggy replied.“Wha-”“There are runes on the floor,” she replied. “You saw the stuff I saw in my head, that came up because I stepped on some runes on the floor. Eli knows magic stuff, right?”“... Yeah, they do…” Mikael said, and she could feel him starting to realise that she knew things. “Peggy, the mind link-”“I know,” she replied. “We can talk about it later, when I’m not in danger.”“... “This was the monastery?” Mikael asked. “The hell happened to it? I swear Alpha Claymore got a letter from them just before we left.” “He did,” Eli confirmed. “So what…” Mikael said, stepping forward. He immediately stepped back, and Peggy felt the wave of nausea surge through him. “The hell?” “Are you ok?” Peggy asked, looking worried. “I’m ok, I just, give me a minute,” Mikael said, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, his face ashen. “Nieve must have pressed on, past this point, to get that sick…” Eli said, watching Mikael’s reaction. “Think this is magic or poison?” Peggy asked, still keeping an eye on Mikael. “My guess? Both. It only seems to be when we cross a certain threshold, and it’s a strong, possibly emetic effect,” Eli said. “It’s bullshit, whatever it is,” Mikael growled. “Let me try…” Peggy said, stepping over where Mikael had been. “Wait-” he said, reaching out… But Peggy was fine. She glanced around, waiting for any effect. “Nothing…” she murmured. “So

  • The Wolf Star: A Rejected Mates Story   Chapter 16- Crisp air

Peggy stirred slightly as she awoke. She hadn’t had any strange dreams, which was a relief, as after the rogue attack and with the possibility of having a mate bond with Mikael, she hadn’t slept as well as she would have liked to. Usually, at this point, she would pull up her blanket and cuddle into it, enjoying the warmth before she had to go out into the cold. The further north the group went and the closer toward the werewolf countries of Arcterra they got, the colder the air got. She was used to the more mild days of Albiontё.But today, she was already very warm.Too warm. She blushed hard as she felt a soft breath against her ear. The smell of chewed mint and pine let her know immediately who this was.Mikael.As she came more into reality, she realised that he had his arm wrapped around her middle, his legs pressed against hers.He probably hadn’t gotten into this position on purpose, but still, it made her flustered. His back was pressed against her, and she could feel every l

[CW- Please note this chapter contains references to marital rape and abuse. Not graphic or shown "on screen". Please take care of yourself while reading.]Ariadne sat at her desk, tapping her fingers on the wood. North was attached to her breast as she pored over world maps. She used her hairpins to mark areas on the map. Each sharp pin was the location of a reported rogue attack.Something wasn’t adding up.“You’re going to make your milk taste sour if you keep feeding him while you’re stressed,” Song cooed.“You know that’s just an old wives' tale,” Ariadne said, her fingers tapping out the staccato rhythm.“You haven’t even noticed he’s finished drinking,” Song chuckled. Ariadne glanced down at North. He gurgled and wriggled, no longer latched. She smiled, picked him up, and started patting his back to burp him.“It can’t be that sour if he’s happily guzzled down his meal,” Ariadne said.“I still don’t think you should be working while you feed him,” Song said.“Then I’d never get

  • The Wolf Star: A Rejected Mates Story   Chapter 14- Knights and Rogues

“Has someone been hurt?” Ariadne asked, frowning.“Half the knighthood,” Commander Ruiz sighed. “A local holy site was attacked.”“Oh my,” Ariadne said, her eyes widening.“Indeed,” Commander Ruiz nodded. “We went to investigate, and we found the cause.”He led her inside the garrison, where the knights were being patched up. She noticed them all eyeing her warily as she walked in. She almost kicked a dagger that had been left on the floor. She frowned at it. The knights had evidently been in a rush… There were other discarded weapons, like a bow and a shield. Then Ariadne’s nostrils burned with the smell of blood and…Turpentine.“A rogue?” Ariadne asked. Several men looked up at her, eyes wide. “This far south?”“Aye,” Commander Ruiz sighed. “We don’t know how-”“Your majesty,” a younger lycan knight spoke. Commander Ruiz glared at the knight. “You know of these things?”“Yes,” Ariadne nodded. “I suppose they aren’t something most Lycans are exposed to.”“That’s right,” Commander Ru
