Chapter Twenty-Three: Seeing her true side

He saw himself in a large, dark field filled with smoke. He was in his human form, alone and naked. He remembered being there as a child. He was only eight at that time. He'd woken up, not being able to control his beast anymore. He walked around the field, clueless about where he was going. Was he dreaming?

He heard a growl. It sounded familiar. He turned around and saw his wolf appearing from the white smoke. He was staring at him with his blood-red eyes.

He did not understand what was happening. Why was his wolf not in his body? Why was it standing before him as if it was another wolf? It stood away from him and growled. They stared at each other. What did it want? He asked himself. It was as if it was waiting for him to say something.

"What do you want?" he asked his beast.

It said nothing and continued to gaze at him.

"Why can't I control you?" he asked it.
