Chapter 7

3 years after the rejection

Naomi looked at herself in the mirror and shrugged at how she looked, knowing that this was the best she was getting after 3 hours of sleep and running out of coffee.

One of the main perks of working in computer programming is that Naomi could literally do her job from anywhere at anytime but every few months there was mandatory office time and she had to spend the next four weeks in the new headquarters for LiteGroup because they had hired a bunch of new recruits straight out of some very impressive colleges. but they had no work experience.

They had no idea how to work as a team or how to work with Naomi and her management team so when they got drafted into the office, she was required to attend and show them the ropes.

Naomi didn’t begrudge it because she reminded herself we all started somewhere and needed that first help but at the same time, she didn’t exactly choose her current career for the socialising aspects.

At that moment there was a soft knock on her apartment door. Naomi answered and saw her Neighbour Lottie Norman was standing in front of her looking bright and cheerful as always.

“Good Morning my darling girl” she said stepping into the small apartments living toom and embracing Namoi like she was her own child. “How is Alex today?”

“Grumpy” said Naomi. “He didn’t sleep well so his pattern may be off a bit today, all his medicines are ready as always and he is back in bed now but he hasn’t eaten yet” Lottie nodded understanding what all this meant.

“It’s fine. Now go to work. I will take excellent care of him and when you come home come downstairs to my apartment and we can all have dinner together okay?”

Naomi gave her a grateful smile. She didn’t know what she would do without Lottie. She was Naomi’s Landlady and downstairs neighbour but she had become like a mother to her and she treated Naomis son Alex, like he was her own grandchild.

Lottie owned the whole apartment block so she was home all day every day and was an amazing help to Naomi, never asking for anything in return.

“Okay, I better go before I am late and lose all credibility with my staff!” Naomi joked kissing Lottie on the cheek. “Call me if he gets any worse” she said as she picked up her purse and left the apartment.

Although the drive to work had been uneventful, all the way to the office Naomi had felt a sense of unease come over her. Normally this feeling started when she was in the house and was because of her worried for Alex but today this felt different.

Like the pressure before a storm started, she felt like something ominous was brewing on the horizon and wished she could just drive back home and escape this sensation.

Pulling up at the office the sensation became worse, and Naomi told herself it was her paranoia. No one here knew who she was, and no one was going to recognise her. Naomi had paid a lot of money and put a lot of hard work into making herself a new person and there was no way she was found out.

“C’mon Nai, it’s just nerves from going into the office. Just chill” she told herself as she took a few steadying breaths. Feeling calmer she climbed out of the car, walked across the parking lot and entered her office building.

As she walked into reception, she heard a familiar man’s voice call out “Well, well it’s the famous Natalie Lane gracing us with her presence”.

She turned around to see her co-worker and only friend Jason smiling at her with his arms outstretched for a hug. Walking towards him Naomi gave him a wide smile. “Jason it is too early for you to be being this loud”

He threw back his head and gave a soft laugh. “You always make it sound like I am a trouble maker Nat”

“You are” she responded lightly punching his arm. “Been working out man? That almost hurt my fist!” Jason suddenly looked at her very seriously and bent down closer to her, his light green eyes inches from her own, looking at her intently

“Yeah, wanna see the rest of it?” and then winking at her. For a moment She didn’t know how to respond until he laughed again. “My god Nat it is so easy to make you blush it feels almost unfair.”

Naomi punched him again. “Jackass” she muttered and started making her way to the lift. People were watching them as they walked together. Partly because of the noise they had been making but also because people found it hard not to look at ‘Natalie’ and Jason together.

He was just over 6 foot and had that lean fit physique of a soccer player. You can tell he kept really fit but wasn’t bulky. He had family money so all his suits were tailored really well to make sure you never forgot fit he looked as well.

Hidden under a mop of curly blonde hair that always needed cutting was a face that was handsome when he was in his normal stoic mode but when he smiled he had a beautiful smile complete with dimples and Naomi had literally seen a woman swoon over his smile before. One of the funniest things she had ever gotten to witness.

Naomi walked into the lift with him and looked at herself in the mirrored panel as the door slid shut. It had been almost 3 years since her transformation, but she still found herself a little startled sometimes when she saw herself in the mirror.

Gone was her long white, blond hair, replaced by a jaw length black bob and fringe, her blue eyes were now brown, she had put on some weight as she had been too thin before. She always made sure to wear eyeliner and lipstick as well, so her lip and eye shape looked different.

To anyone who knew meek and nerdy Naomi Clark they would never assume this confident vampy looking woman in front of them was her. There was also the help of a glamour spell, that made it hard to focus on her for too long and that helped hide her scent in case she did meet someone from her old pack.

As theyarrives at the pack and climbed out of their various vehicles, Naomi's nerves were on fire with anxiety. She was worrying about Theon's condition. She checked her phone and hadn't had any updates from Margot, she convinced herself no news was good news. "So what do we do with these witches now then?" asked Lottie"I have called the Witches Court" said Naomi, "They will be here shortly. So they will be handed over to them. I assume they have some sort of special place for witches that do this kind of thing. Clearly it was niave of Theon to think he could hold Lilian before, so we call the professionals"Rhys nodded in agreement "Yeah we kind of fucked up there,""Well we all learnt a vital lesson" said Lottie. "Never understimate these witches.""I just can't believe how crazy it all went to fast" said Naomi. She took Alex from Rhys's arms. "Shall we go see daddy and then go get some rest baby?" she asked her little boy. He looked sleepily up at her but his eyes held a glint of

If Naomi could choose one way to describe Molly right now she'd go with 'in her element'. The woman was literally overjoyed finally getting to smugly tell her clever story of how she'd engineered this. "You were all so easy to manipulate. Now i will have the blood of the last of the white wolves and I will gift it to my daughter and we will be unstoppable." she crowed gleefully. Naomi didn't know what she was referring to."Ah you don't know" said Molly seeing the confused look on Naomi's face. "The blood of the white wolf, when consumed by a witch, gives them the ultimate power boost and the ability to control full blood wolves. I can take over every pack in the US. It will help me control every full blooded Mutt in the states."Naomi was getting really sick of listening to her voice. She didn't know how to shut her up in her current situation but she just knew the second she was free Molly was going to be forced to keep her mouth closed. "Now come here" she said using the invisible b

No matter who you are, hearing the words ritual is never a good thing, thought Naomi, but stood in a semi circle of witches holding your small child it is especially chilling. Naomi was still reeling at the iformation overload of the past few days. She was thinking when she got back to the cottage and told the whole story to Theon she would need to make a family tree first just to lay it all out for him. Naomi knew she should be asking questions like, what ritual, what party, things like that but she had become a little disconnected with reality and her next question was unexpected "Wait, you were going to kill me when you thought I hurt Lilian but now it's Lucy you're fine with it?" Lottie rounded on Naomi, eyes wide. "That;s your issue right now?" she asked "Molly's double standards?""I think Naomi has finally snapped" muttered Rhys.Naomi wasn't sure she could disagree with that statement. Her mind was reeling. She had Alex, all she wanted to do was run and take her son far away

"So which one of you did it?" Molly asked. There ws no reason to wonder wahat she was referring to. The woman's eyes were pure cold, fury. Her anger and distress were practically radiating off her. "Who killed my babygirl?" she screamed through tears of rage. Her face getting redder and eyes bulging.Rhys and Lottie looked at each other confused, Naomi realised she was the only one who knew that Lilian was dead. "Someone killed Lilian." explained Naomi. "Snapped her neck" "Someone?" SOMEONE?" bellowed Molly. "It was you! I took your son so you think this is just retribution?" "I only found her" Naomi said defending herself "She was dead when we got here. I think you need to check your own backyard before you go pointing fingers Molly""You lying snake" she hissed as she threw an energy ball at Naomi. Naomi managed to dodge in time. She put Alex down and told him to put his shield back up and to turn around so he couldnt see what was happening."You could have hurt Alex" Naomi said an

Naomi was stunned. Stunned and horrified. Looking at the pale and lifeless figure of Lilian led out before her she thought she would feel happy or relieved at her death but she just felt flat and empty. She would never get to see her justice or get to ask Lilian why she had donw these things to her. I wonder who she pissed off enough to actually kill her, thought Naomi. She had clearly enraged someone enough to kill her by hand, which was Naomi's educated guess going by the handprints bruised that formed on her pale neck. I wonder if Molly knows her daughter is gone? she though. Full wolves sensed death to their children but she didn't know if hybrids did. At that moment James reached out and turned her to face him. She had forgotten he was even there. Looking at the shock she felt reflected back in his eyes it was like a bubble she was in burst. That's when she realised what he was saying to her "Luna, we need to get out of here now" James said in a panicked tone "it's all gone si

The atmosphere was tense. There was no other way to describe it. The entire rescue team was hiding in the trees lines about 30 feet from the road that led into the quary. It was their last chance at consistent coverage. The cars had been left about a quarter of a mile down the road, as out of sight as they could manage. Naomi could see the wide enterance into the quary and the building, tents and RVs that lay beyond. Their target for attack. It was dusk now and they were waiting for the cover of darkness to make their move as they were hoping for the cover of the dark combined with the witches letting their guards down at night. The quart it's self was a really open space and their recon during the early evening had shown there was no wehrre for cover making stealth a difficult place to infiltrate without giving away their arrival. Quite sensible of the witches really Naomi begrudgingly admitted. Lottie was sat on the ground next to Naomi, still trying to connect with her visions.
