Chapter 21:

last update Last Updated: 2025-10-04 22:45:33

The first thing I hear is voices. Urgent, sharp and overlapping each other. They drag me back from the dark, where I was floating, weightless and numb.

“She just collapsed at my door, Ezekiel. Naked. Do you understand what that looked like?” Ethan’s voice is tight with anger.

August cuts in, sharper. “And you show up dripping blood like...I don't know, but that's not normal in any way, shape or form. What did you do to her?”

Zeke’s reply is low, gravelly, distorted like I’m underwater. “I didn’t touch her. The blood isn’t hers.”

“You expect us to believe that?” Ethan snaps back.

There's a long pause, then Zeke breaks it and his voice sounds very sarcastic. "I don't see her bleeding. Do you think I missed it?"

"You fucking–"

“She needs rest. Not us tearing each other apart.”

Their words twist and echo in my head, and I squeeze my eyes shut. The world tilts. My body feels heavy, but my mind… my mind is awake now.

Alive, loud and vivid.

Images slice through me in rapid flashes—the bar,

  • The Wolf's Call (Book 1)   Chapter 27:

Zeke’s jeep rumbles in front of Ethan's apartment building, headlights slicing through the night. It’s past eight, and the cool evening air brushes my skin as I step forward, backpack slung over one shoulder. My heart kicks harder than I’d like to admit, fueled by a terrifying mix of dread and reluctant curiosity. So I'm going into the world of wolves...wolves that have been wolves all their lives, not a human like me. What's it going to be like?I grip the door handle, about to climb in, when August pulls me into a tight hug. She smells like coffee and lavender, grounding me for a second. “Text me when you get there,” she says against my hair, her voice tight with worry. “And if you need anything, call. Anything. Even if you just need to scream.”“I will.” I pull back, smiling even though my nerves are chewing at me. “Be good and don't let Ethan blow anything up.”Ethan’s next, folding me into his arms. His hug lingers, a little tighter than necessary, like he’s trying to shield me

Idiots. That has become my new favourite word, mostly because I'm surrounded by idiots.Zeke stares down at Ethan with a grin that’s all sharp teeth and infuriating amusement. He doesn't even try to hide the superiority in his enchanting green eyes. He’s standing perfectly still, relaxed, yet radiating a coiled tension that makes the air feel thinner around him.Meanwhile, Ethan’s pacing in front of him like a soldier before battle, every word rolling off his tongue like a threat he barely manages to maintain. “If you so much as put one scratch on her, I swear, I’ll call every government agency, every organization, I’ll expose your entire species! You won’t know what hit you, Alpha.” He spits the title like a curse.Zeke chuckles, low and throaty, finding Ethan’s frantic, human-scale threats utterly delightful. “Swear what, little human? You’ll throw hands with me?” He gestures vaguely at Ethan’s slim, academic frame. “You actually believe you can keep her safer than I can? Me? I h

Ethan is practically bouncing on the couch, his knee jiggling like he’s had three too many coffees. His eyes are wide, sparkling with a mix of mischief and awe.“Come on, Liv,” he says, leaning forward, elbows braced on his knees. “Shift. Right now. I need to see it with my own eyes. I’ve read all the folklore and heard the whispers, but a real, live Lycan hybrid that also happens to be my soul tied baby sister? That’s gold, Liv. Absolute gold.”“Ethan,” August warns, shooting him a look as she crosses her arms. She’s trying to play the calm one, the voice of reason, but I see it in her eyes. The curiosity and awe. She wants to see too. Her attempt at sternness is undermined by the slight tremor of her lip.“I’m serious,” he insists, turning back to me. “I’m not going to believe you’re some wolf–Lycan hybrid without proof. I need to see the fur, the claws, maybe a little snarl. Just a quick flash! For research purposes!”I narrow my eyes, folding my arms across my chest. Irritation p

I stare at Zeke like he’s lost his damn mind. My arms are crossed so tight across my chest that my nails are digging crescents into my skin.Is he insane? No...he IS insane. He’s grinning at me like a boy who’s just told a joke he’s proud of. The sunlight catches on the edge of his teeth and the little golden stud earring on his left ear lobe. It would be charming if I wasn’t two seconds away from kicking that smile off his face.“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asks, tilting his head.I groan, releasing my hands from their prison across my chest. “Are you kidding me right now? You can’t be serious about this.”He spreads his hands, still smiling. “Dead serious. Come with me to my pack. Meet your people. I think it’s just about time.”I gape at him. “Your pack? Zeke, I’m not going anywhere with you.”“You’re their Luna, Olivia. You have to at least meet them. They’re waiting for you, you know? They've been waiting seven years for their Luna.”“I never asked to be their Luna,”

"No, it doesn't mean we're married," Zeke chuckles. "It means that we're soul bonded. Usually, it's for life. But it can be broken if one of us dies, or if either of us rejects the other. Both of which would leave us miserable, of course. We'd only be married when we have the appropriate mating ceremony. It's like a wedding, but...more traditional."Wait...so I'm tied to him. Forever? "If I were to have another lover that isn't her when she's alive, she would feel it and be in pain. Same goes for me. We're both able to track each other, though the distance is limited. That's how I'm always able to find her. We're connected by our souls."Is that what my mind meant when I was on a date with Noah? I was hurting him?The mate bond, that invisible chain that ties us together. It’s no longer a theory. It’s the undeniable force holding my body still, the reason I can’t lift my hand to slap the arrogance right off his face, and the reason why my body would always respond to his no matter wh

  • The Wolf's Call (Book 1)   Chapter 22:

I push back against his chest, but it’s a pathetic, half-hearted resistance, like a kitten swatting at a lion.“Put me down, Zeke,” I manage, my voice a cracked whisper. I need distance from him. I need to think, to separate the horrifying fantasy of the shifting, the fur, the wolf, from the reality of this small, stuffy apartment. He ignores me completely. His eyes flicker once to my face, then settle on a fuming Ethan. The look is a challenge, a claim, and a final dismissal all in one."You heard her. Put her–"“She’s in shock,” Zeke states, his voice calm, but with a steel edge that silences Ethan mid-word. “And she’s going to need a shirt, unless you two plan on staring at her all night.”It’s the most pragmatic, non-emotional thing he could have said, and it cuts through the frantic tension in the room, reminding us of the absurdity of the scene. I’m naked beneath a thin throw blanket, held in the arms of the man who I just remembered is a mythological creature, while my best f
