The heavy iron gates of the central estate did not open for unannounced visitors.

Standing six stories high and guarded by armed men in dark tactical gear, the perimeter of Don Dante’s stronghold was a wall no one dared to cross. Yet, at precisely two o'clock in the afternoon, a sleek, bulletproof black limousine screeched to a halt right before the main security checkpoint.

Inside the estate's main courtyard, Arabella was carrying a woven basket of freshly pressed linens toward the east wing. Her knee still throbbed from where Leo's training dagger had struck her earlier, but her posture was straight, her movements careful and deliberate.

Suddenly, the harsh wail of a perimeter alarm echoed across the manicured lawns.

Arabella froze, her fingers tightening around the edge of the basket. Armed guards who had been standing at attention near the grand arches instantly unholstered their weapons, their heavy boots pounding against the stone as they rushed toward the front gates.

Frederick stepped out onto the marble terrace, his expression completely calm, though his sharp eyes narrowed slightly as he checked his pocket watch.

"Frederick?" Arabella asked softly, stepping closer to the elderly butler. "What is happening? Are we under attack?"

"No, child," Frederick replied, his deep voice smooth and unbothered. "Not an attack. Merely an unwanted guest who lacks the discipline to follow the Don's laws."

Before Arabella could ask another question, the massive iron gates creaked open under security override. The black limousine surged into the courtyard, kicking up loose gravel before slamming to a halt near the grand fountain.

The rear door clicked open, and a tall, striking woman stepped out onto the stone path.

Arabella caught her breath.

The woman was dazzling. She wore a tailored crimson silk suit that hugged her sharp frame, her dark hair styled in flawless waves, diamonds glittering at her throat and wrists. She moved with a suffocating, arrogant grace, as if she owned every stone under her feet. Behind her, two heavily built enforcers in dark suits stepped out, their hands resting near their jacket holsters.

Victoria Vance took a long, slow breath of the sea breeze, her cold eyes sweeping over the grand estate before landing directly on Frederick and the young woman standing beside him in a simple maiden uniform.

Victoria’s gaze locked onto Arabella.

For three long seconds, silence descended over the courtyard. Victoria inspected Arabella from head to toe, taking in her pale skin, the faint fading bruises on her neck, her simple dark hair, and the utter lack of any luxury on her frame.

A cruel, mocking smile curled Victoria’s blood-red lips as she stepped up the terrace stairs, her expensive high heels clicking sharply against the stone.

"Frederick," Victoria hailed sharply, her tone dripping with fake warmth and demanding authority. "It has been far too long."

Frederick bowed his head with immaculate, distant professionalism, not taking a single step down the stairs. "Madam Victoria. You are far outside your designated visiting hours. Don Dante is currently in a private tactical briefing in the west wing and is not accepting visitors."

Victoria scoffed, waving a gloved hand dismissively. "I am not here to bother Dante with business, Frederick. I am here to see my son. A mother does not need an appointment to visit her own child."

Her cold, dark eyes flicked back to Arabella, sharp as daggers.

"I see my son is resting near the east corridor," Victoria continued smoothly, turning back to Frederick with an icy, commanding smile. "Spare me a few moments alone with this girl before I step inside. I wish to give proper instructions to the person overseeing my child's wing."

Frederick paused, studying Victoria’s face. He knew the Don strictly forbade unannounced visits, but he also knew Victoria was the mother of the heir. Assuming she wouldn't dare commit an outrageous act of violence inside the Don's private sanctuary, Frederick gave a slow, measured bow.

"Five minutes, Madam Victoria," Frederick said firmly, stepping back toward the grand double doors. "I shall inform Young Lord Leo of your arrival."

The moment Frederick stepped into the shadowed hallway and the heavy doors clicked shut, the air on the terrace turned to ice.

Victoria stepped forward, invading Arabella's personal space until the heavy, suffocating scent of orchid perfume filled the air. She lifted a gloved hand, her long red nails roughly grabbing Arabella’s chin and tilting her face upward with bruising force.

Arabella winced at the sharp pressure against her bruised jaw, but she forced herself not to cry out.

"Look at you," Victoria hissed, her dark eyes flashing with pure jealousy and disgust as she inspected Arabella's simple attire. "Dirty. Broken. Wearing no family crest, no pack mark, nothing. You look like a stray that crawled out of a gutter."

Victoria released her chin with a sharp, dismissive shove that sent Arabella stumbling back against the stone railing.

"I don't know what lie you told the guards to get through those gates," Victoria whispered, her voice dropping into a lethal purr, "but let me make one thing very clear to you, girl. Leo is my blood. This empire will belong to my son. If I find out you are trying to slide your way into this house, or put silly ideas into my child's head, I will personally ensure you are dragged out of Blackhaven in a body bag."

Arabella’s heart hammered against her ribs, her hands trembling as she clutched the railing behind her. The familiar weight of dread settled in her stomach, the same terrifying, suffocating fear she had felt under Alpha Lucian’s belt and Seraphina’s cruel laughter.

Not again.

Deep within the dark, dormant depths of her soul, a sudden, fierce warmth flared to life. It wasn't a physical roar, but a quiet, powerful whisper echoing in her blood: You are no longer in that world, Arabella. You are not a slave to be beaten. Stand up.

My wolf, Arabella thought, her eyes widening in realization. The same mysterious, unpredictable spirit that had ghosted her for twenty years was suddenly giving her a spine of solid steel.

Arabella gathered a breath she didn't know she possessed. She straightened her back, smoothed her black apron, and looked Victoria dead in the eye with an unyielding, dangerous composure.

"I am here to work, Madam," Arabella said, her voice soft, clear, and vibrating with surprising audacity. "I have no power, no title, and no desire to interfere in your family's affairs. I obey the Don's laws, and I fulfill my duties. Nothing more."

Victoria froze. Her jaw tightened in utter shock, her dark eyes wide with fury.

"What?" Victoria breathed, her face twisting in disgust. "You even have the guts to speak to me with boldness?"

Before Arabella could move, Victoria’s hand flew through the air.

SLAP!

The sharp, brutal crack echoed across the quiet courtyard.

The force of the blow slammed Arabella's head to the side, her lip splitting against her teeth as fresh blood trickled down her chin. Pain exploded across her cheekbone, hot and stinging, burning through her skin.

Victoria stepped in close, raising her hand once more, her face contorted in vicious rage. "I will break that arrogance out of you, you pathetic little…"

"That will do, Madam," Arabella rasped out, lifting her face. Though tears of sheer physical pain welled in her eyes, her gaze was cold, sharp, and fearless as she looked at Victoria. "I am a maiden of this estate under the Don's protection. I will not take another blow from you."

"Why, you insolent ..."

"Enough, Victoria!"

The grand double doors burst open. Frederick marched back onto the terrace, his white hair neat, but his weathered face flushed with rare, terrible anger. He stepped directly between Victoria and Arabella, his tall frame shielding the injured maiden.

"I gave you five minutes out of courtesy for your status, Madam Victoria," Frederick declared, his deep voice carrying a cold, uncompromising steel that made Victoria’s enforcers tense. "I will not stand by and allow you to physically assault the staff under this roof. You have abused my trust and broken the laws of this house."

Victoria sneered, stepping back and smoothing her crimson suit, though her hands trembled with rage. "She is a nameless servant, Frederick! She spoke back to me!"

"She is under Don Dante's care," Frederick countered sharply, taking a silk handkerchief from his pocket and gently pressing it to Arabella's bleeding lip. "You will leave this terrace immediately and wait in the reception lounge until the Don finishes his briefing. If you take one more step toward this woman, I will have security escort you beyond the main gates myself."

Victoria stared at the old butler in disbelieving fury, then flicked her bitter gaze to Arabella, who stood behind Frederick with her chin held high, bleeding but unbroken.

"This isn't over," Victoria hissed, turning sharply on her heel. Her crimson robe fanned out behind her as she stormed into the main hall, her heavy-footed enforcers following close behind.

Arabella let out a long, shuddering breath, her knees trembling as the rush of adrenaline slowly faded.

Frederick turned to her, his sharp eyes filled with deep respect and quiet anger as he looked at the swelling mark on her cheek.

"You held your ground, child," Frederick murmured softly, wrapping a steadying arm around her shoulder. "Come inside. We must clean that wound before the Don sees it."

Outlying mansions, ports, and luxury hotels across Blackhaven employed hundreds of human workers, but the Don’s personal estate was untouchable. No female worker was ever allowed inside past sunrise. Arabella woke before the sun rose over Blackhaven. The soft velvet sheets felt foreign against her skin, but the moment her eyes opened, reality rushed back. She was in the heart of an empire ruled by a ruthless hybrid mob boss.By six o'clock sharp, Arabella stood in the grand corridor, dressed in the crisp, high-collared black maiden uniform Frederick had provided. A subtle nod of approval glinted in his gaze."Punctuality is the first law of this estate, Arabella," Frederick said smoothly, his boots clicking softly against the marble. "Don Dante demands absolute order. In this house, there are no excuses."Arabella adjusted her cuffs, her voice steady. "I am ready to work, Frederick. Tell me what need

The silence between them stretched thin and fragile, like a wire about to snap.Arabella stood frozen beside the giant canopy bed, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. The small boy standing by the open balcony doors looked no older than six, but the intense, suffocating authority radiating off his tiny frame belonged to a seasoned mob boss.Leo Leone’s dark hair was neatly slicked back, matching his tailored miniature suit. His sharp eyes, an icy, piercing shade of hazel, swept over Arabella from head to toe, lingering on her bruised face, matted hair, and dirt-stained rags. His jaw was set in a hard, cruel line that was a terrifying carbon copy of Don Dante’s."Who are you?" Leo demanded. His voice was small, but his tone was laced with pure, unfiltered arrogance. "And why are you in my father’s wing?"Arabella swallowed the lump in her throat, taking a cautious step back against the velvet headboard. "I... My name is Arabella. Your father... His tailored uniform was immaculate, and his white hair was combed back with absolute precision. As they walked down the sweeping marble corridors of the estate, Arabella dragged her feet, her bare, bruised soles leaving faint dark marks on the polished floor. The hall was lined with towering oil paintings and obsidian statues, bathed in the soft glow of golden chandeliers."Do not look so terrified, child," Frederick said gently, his voice carrying a warm, fatherly calm. "You are safe here."Arabella kept her head lowered. "He... he really won't kill me?"Frederick smiled faintly, a soft glint of affection in his eyes as he looked back at her. "Don Dante is a ruthless ruler to the outside world, yes. But his word is absolute law. If he promised you protection, not a single soul in Blackhaven will dare touch a hair on your head."They reached a massive set of carved wooden doors at the end of the east wing. Frederick pus
