Danielle's POV

The ride at night is cold, colder than I expected it to be, and piercing into my skin the way a guilty conscience would. Not even a word was said, as I sit in the car with the guards firmly seated beside me like I'm some sort of a criminal that is being taken to prison.

My mind is filled up with worries as I try to convince myself that I have not made any mistake with my decision, and the shaking of the car at every rocky bump gives me a feeling that I might be wrong.

Despite my worries, I keep telling myself that I have made the right decision, that choosing to leave my family and go with him is the only way to save my pack, but, the truth refused leaving me, and stares me straight in the face.

I never really had a choice in this, I was coerced and forced. Sighing in anxious anticipation of the unknown, my gaze goes back to the trees that swerve by at every move the carriage makes.

It feels like the trees understand what had happened, and were sympathetically waving me goodbye.

Goodbye to my family, goodbye to the pack, and goodbye to the lovely life I had always imagined I would live.

All these goodbyes for what? To become another piece of worthless property to the cruel and ruthless Alpha who was deranged enough to consider wiping off a whole pack if I refused his proposal.

My eyes water, but I refuse to let it fall, I would never give Rhett or his guards that satisfaction of seeing me break.

The car soon stops at Rhett's territory, and we alight. The full and bright moon gave me enough visibility to see Rhett's territory, the land looks big, bigger than any pack that I had ventured into the past. Walking towards the gate with the guards while they pulled the car, I pause as I saw a figure ahead.

It is none other than Rhett.

I walk towards him as he stands still, his aura of dominance, speaking and announcing his position as the king here.

"You came after all," he says in a smooth and deep voice as soon as I get to where he is.

Anger wells up within me as I struggle to give a respectable response, "You gave me no choice, I'm here because of my pack."

And then I see it, his lips twitching sideways in a flash, "It doesn't matter why you're here, all that matters is that you're mine," he says, his eyes lingering on me with an unreadable expression.

Staring back at him made my body shiver in delight, but then I suppress it as he motions to me to follow after him.

Following after Rhett in his massive pack makes me realize something. And that is respect and loyalty resides in his people. Everyone is scared of the Alpha King, and they can't even hide it. Guards stop what they are doing and bow immediately we walk past, and warriors stand at alert until he passes. George has never been able to get our pack to respect him half as much as these ones are doing. This is new to me and I can't say that I hate it.

Until we walk through a room that seems to be bubbling with party.

Everyone stops dancing as the Alpha King walks past, and then I hear it. "That is the Alpha's choice, our Wolfless Luna."

Ouch! That stings, but I refuse to let it get to me, as I walk on behind Rhett, ensuring to keep my head high.

We soon get to my room, and it is a room with a massive bed on the eastern part of the Alpha's compound, and then he motions to me to enter, while he turns and heads back to goddess knows where.

Sitting on the bed as I study the room, a feeling of loneliness suddenly overshadows me as I begin to miss the memories I have of my family before George happened.

This place, even though it looks big, can never be like home. I miss home.

And then, another thought registers in my head again as I remember the stranger from that night. I would never get to meet him again because of Rhett's cruel demand. I lay on the bed and clutch the pillow, sad as I realize that my life is being played like a movie that I have no choice than to participate.

And then a knock sounds, rudely interrupting my thoughts as I lay in the bed, emotionally weak.

Rhett enters, his presence filling the room as I raise my eyebrow in annoyance. I had not told him to step in, and he did. And then I remember, he never needed permission after all, he is the Alpha King.

"You're still awake? he asks as he gives me an intent stare."

"Yes." A simple, short answer.

And then I notice something in his hand; a cup, which he places on the table.

"Come drink up, tea will make you sleep," he says, his face still unreadable.

"How do I know that is not poisoned," I ask snidely.

And then there it was again.

His lips curve in a not-so-smiling manner. "Danielle, if I wanted you dead, Tea would never be the means."

Wrapping my hands around the tea cup, I gulp down the contents, and whine a bit. It was just a little above warm.

"Are you angry?" He asks as turns towards the windows, his hands resting in his side pockets.

Anger isn't qualified to describe my emotions, and so I laugh, bitterly with a broken heart.

"Angry? Shouldn't I feel worse than that? My pack discarded me like a worthless piece of scrap metal, and you asked for me like I'm some commodity that was owed you. Now I'm here, in your pack, in your house, without even a choice, anger is not even qualified enough to describe how I feel." I end my monologue with a pant.

His gaze shifts away from the windows as looks at me, "You think you're of no value? Your pack is responsible for making you feel that way, but I? I never chose you out of pity."

"Then why did you choose me? Why me and not some random single woman?"

He sighs, and turns back to the window, suffocating me with his silence. Then he turns again and grips my shoulders tightly and says with a very deep and low voice, "It is because you are mine."

Rhett's POVKaelen shifts in my arms, small fingers clutching the front of my torn shirt as George circles us now.Behind us, Rex steps closer, blood streaking his jaw. “Alpha… we need to move. Reinforcements are coming from the west ridge.”But I don’t move. Because George is still here staring at me waiting for the first strike.I look over to Rex who I trust now more than anyone and I hand Kaelen carefully to him.“Take him,” I say.Rex hesitates. “But Alpha we have to go—-”“I need to finish this,” I growl, “Run along with the others”“Fine!” he says with a nod and takes Kaelen securely. My son whimpers softly as he’s pulled away, tiny hand reaching toward me that It nearly breaks my resolve.“I’m coming back,” I promise him quietly. Then I turn, but George is gone. But I can still smell him from the distance. The inner compound lies deeper underground, stone corridors carved into old quarry walls. Torchlight flickers unevenly, shadows stretching long like claws along the rock.Th

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 204

Rhett’s POVThe air right now as we head in the direction given by Elara, smells wrong.I crouch at the ridge overlooking the camp ahead. Every muscle in my body coiling tight beneath my skin. In front of us, torchlight burns across reinforced barricades carved into abandoned quarry land. Concrete ruins merge with forest shadows, forming a fortress built for defense not even survival.Whoever it is planned this carefully, too carefully at that.Beside me, Rex lowers his voice. “Perimeter wolves rotating every two minutes. Heavy presence near the eastern structure? They're good.”“I know!” I snap, because I already know, I can clearly see them.I look down to find them assembling as if training for more battles ahead. Thirty… maybe forty wolves. Elite fighters.Guarding something precious. My son.The thought alone nearly tears control from my grip and instantly Kaelen’s scent drifts faintly through the night air.Fear spikes so violently through me my claws punch halfway through my p

Danielle’s POVBACK IN THE TUNNELSWar as expected always has a sound. And tonight… the tunnels are too quiet for the chaos we have slowly grown accustomed to.I stand at the central overlook, arms folded tightly across my chest, watching warriors rotate through patrol formations below after fighting off the wolves that had invaded the tunnels a couple of days ago. Torches burn steadily along the carved stone walls, their light flickering across tired faces.Rhett has been gone three nights now. Three endless nights since he left to bring our son home. The mate bond now visible to me hums faintly in my chest, alive and steady but distant enough to remind me how alone command feels.Behind me, Wiiam approaches. And I hear him before he speaks now. Everything feels louder as usual.“My Luna,” he says carefully, “southern patrol reports are clear again.”And my wolf shifts uneasily beneath my skin. I exhale slowly. “Increase rotation intervals.”William frowns. “We already doubled—”“Tr

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 202

Rhett’s POV The air feels different when you bring an enemy inside your territory. Like the walls themselves know betrayal walks among us.Elara does not even struggle when we drag her through the reinforced woods towards our temporary command outpost. Silver restraints bind her wrists, etched chains dulling her wolf completely, yet she walks upright, completely calm and composed. As if unafraid. That alone irritates me more than resistance ever could. Warriors step aside as we pass, I hear most of them snarl when she walks past. And the others bow instinctively.News travels fast, because I’m sure they already know who she is. They know what she helped steal.Rex opens the tent curtains ahead and I gesture for her to go inside. When she does, I order her. “Sit.”Elara turns slowly, studying me instead.“You should have just taken me home,” she says lightly and my jaw tightens.“You don’t have a place here.” I growl in her face. But her smile deepens.“No. But grief smells the same e

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 201

Rhett’s POVA DAY AFTER THE OUTNUMBERING IN THE WOODS.Cold nights in the woods hide many fears. Tonight, it hides mine. I had been lucky the day before, maneuvering my way out of the camp of the enemies. After being outnumbered. All thanks to Rex and the others who came back. Excluding Devon, who up until now is no where to be found. The rest of my wolves left, move without sound through the dead forest bordering rogue territory after they’d somehow retreated a while ago, shadows slipping between trees older than most packs alive. Leaves crunching softly beneath our booths. And right now, no one speaks. I mean they don’t need to. Every wolf behind me feels the same thing burning through the bond. Rex walks at my right flank, half-shifted, eyes glowing faintly red in the darkness. Three elite warriors left trail us, handpicked fighters who know silence better than glory. Two nights. Two nights since my son was taken. Two nights since Danielle’s scream still echoes inside my skull.

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 200

Danielle’s POV The tunnels for the next couple of hours no longer feel like refuge. For now, it feels like responsibility.Every breath I take carries weight now, the pack’s safety, Rhett’s absence, and the unbearable emptiness where my son should be.Kaelen’s nursery smells faintly of lavender and milk when I walk past it. That I never leave it anymore. His blanket is wrapped around my shoulders, my body curled beside the empty crib like proximity alone might bring him back.Silence fills the room when I walk in, no sleepy cries as usual. No tiny heartbeat fluttering against mine. This time, my wolf stirs beneath my skin the moment consciousness returns, and for a second something feels wrong. My hearing sharpens before I even turn. Footsteps echo through stone corridors two levels below, hurried, uneven.Running towards the Nursery. A knock slams against the nursery door.“Luna!”I’m already moving when William bursts inside. His breathing is heavy, his eyes sharp with urgency.“Th
