Danielle's POV

The ride at night is cold, colder than I expected it to be, and piercing into my skin the way a guilty conscience would. Not even a word was said, as I sit in the car with the guards firmly seated beside me like I'm some sort of a criminal that is being taken to prison.

My mind is filled up with worries as I try to convince myself that I have not made any mistake with my decision, and the shaking of the car at every rocky bump gives me a feeling that I might be wrong.

Despite my worries, I keep telling myself that I have made the right decision, that choosing to leave my family and go with him is the only way to save my pack, but, the truth refused leaving me, and stares me straight in the face.

I never really had a choice in this, I was coerced and forced. Sighing in anxious anticipation of the unknown, my gaze goes back to the trees that swerve by at every move the carriage makes.

It feels like the trees understand what had happened, and were sympathetically waving me goodbye.

Goodbye to my family, goodbye to the pack, and goodbye to the lovely life I had always imagined I would live.

All these goodbyes for what? To become another piece of worthless property to the cruel and ruthless Alpha who was deranged enough to consider wiping off a whole pack if I refused his proposal.

My eyes water, but I refuse to let it fall, I would never give Rhett or his guards that satisfaction of seeing me break.

The car soon stops at Rhett's territory, and we alight. The full and bright moon gave me enough visibility to see Rhett's territory, the land looks big, bigger than any pack that I had ventured into the past. Walking towards the gate with the guards while they pulled the car, I pause as I saw a figure ahead.

It is none other than Rhett.

I walk towards him as he stands still, his aura of dominance, speaking and announcing his position as the king here.

"You came after all," he says in a smooth and deep voice as soon as I get to where he is.

Anger wells up within me as I struggle to give a respectable response, "You gave me no choice, I'm here because of my pack."

And then I see it, his lips twitching sideways in a flash, "It doesn't matter why you're here, all that matters is that you're mine," he says, his eyes lingering on me with an unreadable expression.

Staring back at him made my body shiver in delight, but then I suppress it as he motions to me to follow after him.

Following after Rhett in his massive pack makes me realize something. And that is respect and loyalty resides in his people. Everyone is scared of the Alpha King, and they can't even hide it. Guards stop what they are doing and bow immediately we walk past, and warriors stand at alert until he passes. George has never been able to get our pack to respect him half as much as these ones are doing. This is new to me and I can't say that I hate it.

Until we walk through a room that seems to be bubbling with party.

Everyone stops dancing as the Alpha King walks past, and then I hear it. "That is the Alpha's choice, our Wolfless Luna."

Ouch! That stings, but I refuse to let it get to me, as I walk on behind Rhett, ensuring to keep my head high.

We soon get to my room, and it is a room with a massive bed on the eastern part of the Alpha's compound, and then he motions to me to enter, while he turns and heads back to goddess knows where.

Sitting on the bed as I study the room, a feeling of loneliness suddenly overshadows me as I begin to miss the memories I have of my family before George happened.

This place, even though it looks big, can never be like home. I miss home.

And then, another thought registers in my head again as I remember the stranger from that night. I would never get to meet him again because of Rhett's cruel demand. I lay on the bed and clutch the pillow, sad as I realize that my life is being played like a movie that I have no choice than to participate.

And then a knock sounds, rudely interrupting my thoughts as I lay in the bed, emotionally weak.

Rhett enters, his presence filling the room as I raise my eyebrow in annoyance. I had not told him to step in, and he did. And then I remember, he never needed permission after all, he is the Alpha King.

"You're still awake? he asks as he gives me an intent stare."

"Yes." A simple, short answer.

And then I notice something in his hand; a cup, which he places on the table.

"Come drink up, tea will make you sleep," he says, his face still unreadable.

"How do I know that is not poisoned," I ask snidely.

And then there it was again.

His lips curve in a not-so-smiling manner. "Danielle, if I wanted you dead, Tea would never be the means."

Wrapping my hands around the tea cup, I gulp down the contents, and whine a bit. It was just a little above warm.

"Are you angry?" He asks as turns towards the windows, his hands resting in his side pockets.

Anger isn't qualified to describe my emotions, and so I laugh, bitterly with a broken heart.

"Angry? Shouldn't I feel worse than that? My pack discarded me like a worthless piece of scrap metal, and you asked for me like I'm some commodity that was owed you. Now I'm here, in your pack, in your house, without even a choice, anger is not even qualified enough to describe how I feel." I end my monologue with a pant.

His gaze shifts away from the windows as looks at me, "You think you're of no value? Your pack is responsible for making you feel that way, but I? I never chose you out of pity."

"Then why did you choose me? Why me and not some random single woman?"

He sighs, and turns back to the window, suffocating me with his silence. Then he turns again and grips my shoulders tightly and says with a very deep and low voice, "It is because you are mine."

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 37

Danielle's POV“I don't like her company around you!” Rhett growls, the minute we head out, nodding slightly at the guests smiling around us.I turn facing him with an arched brow, wondering why he’d made that statement. “Well good thing your opinion on whom I'm meant to hang out with, doesn't count!” I snap.“You're not to be seen anywhere with her, Danielle,” he protests.“You don't own me Alpha,” “Last time I checked, I do,” he says with a smirk, staring into my eyes. And almost in an instant, the air between us becomes stiff as we leave the gathering hall. For some reason, I can still hear Lady Seraphine’s laughter echoing faintly behind us, excited, happy, everything I wish I could be in a room full of eyes that weigh me like an outsider.Rhett walks beside me, now suddenly silent. Too silent. His hand occasionally brushes mine when the corridor narrows, but he doesn’t say anything. It’s ridiculous how aware I am of every sound, the faint click of his boots on the marble floor,

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 36

Danielle’s POVIf there’s one thing worse than being unwanted and rejected by a pack, it’s being watched by that same one.Every pair of eyes in the room right now is on me.The hall shows with the laughter of men, I presume to be wolves—ladies of obvious great caliber, and servants bubbling the whole place with trays. And me?I feel like a misplaced chess piece when around other members of this pack, shiny enough to notice, but not enough to matter. And I hate that for myself.I shift slightly in my chair, forcing a polite smile at the guests seated across from me.And across the room, Rhett is talking with a few Alphas and elders. I watch the expression on his face harden from a distance, that cold façade that somehow still commands every heartbeat in the hall. He hasn’t looked my way since we arrived. Which apparently is fine by me. I stay quiet in my chair watching him from a distance. As always, he’s wearing black again. Of course.

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 35

Danielle’s POVThe next morning, I wake up expecting the same heaviness from the night before. That sharp ache behind my chest that no amount of sleep can fix.And this time, no knock on the door, no sound of servants whispering beyond the hall as usual. Not even Aaliyah’s cheerful voice from the door, like other days.I sit up slowly, the covers slipping from my shoulders. And my head throbs slightly from all the thinking I did last night, thinking about what I heard, what Rhett said to Devon, what it meant. You might have to let her go.The words keep echoing in my head like a curse. But now… now, I don’t feel rejected. I feel angry at myself for ever choosing to eavesdrop. But then again, If he’s going to discard me, he could at least have the decency to do it to my face.I drag myself out of bed, wrapping a robe around my shoulders, as I head for the window. I watch how wide the gardens stretch outside, the perfect rows of roses, guards patr

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 34

Rhett’s POV“Fuck, she—must have heard what we’d just said a couple of minutes ago,” I growl, raking through my hair as I pace in my study.“How sure are you man?” Devon asks, standing by the door with a hand over his hips.Without a glance at him, I continue on my steps. Convincing myself that I’m right about what I think about what happened.“She did,” I reply.“Well, if you say so. What do you intend to do now?” He asks, a bit of concern edged in his tone.My insides tighten from hearing that exact question. The same one he’d asked a couple of minutes ago about the Council’s decision about her stay here and now this. ‘All of this is becoming a lot!’ I growl to myself. And for some damn reason, I can still hear her voice from earlier in my head, pained, refusing my help. “The Alpha is obviously busy.”I’ve been called every name under the moon, faced enemies with claws and teeth, and I’ve never felt a wound sting like those words did.I told myself it didn’t matter. That she’d coo

  • The Wolfless Luna And The Alpha King   Chapter 33

Danielle’s POVFor once in a long time, I don’t feel like the fragile one in the midst of others. The Gathering went better than I could have ever imagined. I replay the way Lyra’s smile cracked from earlier, the way the other women leaned in like they’d just witnessed something scandalous and glorious all at once. That Aaliyah herself can barely contain her pride the whole ride back.“My lady, you were fire today,” she keeps saying. “Did you see her face? I thought she was going to choke on her tea.”I can’t stop smiling, even though part of me knows it’s pointless. “I saw that.”“First time in years someone shut Lyra up like that. The women of the pack will be whispering about it for weeks I tell you.”“Perfect,” I murmur, staring out the SUV window as the mansion gates come into view. “Then maybe they’ll whisper something useful for once.”When the car pulls to a stop in the courtyard, I take a deep breath and step out. Seeing the hustle and bustle of the guards and servants of the

Daniell’s POV“Well I’m quite proud of the fact that you could notice,” she says with a smile.I straighten in my position, staring back at her. Waiting for whatever damn response she has to give this time. But to my surprise, she says nothing afterwards. Instead, she smiles at me.For a moment, the soft murmurs in the room fill up the void and alert me that I’d won this round in particular.Lyra on her end, turns away from me without another word, pausing by a cluster of noblewomen. Everyone of them straightens, waiting for her to speak. And then in an instant, her voice drops, soft enough to sound private but loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.“I do wonder,” she says, glancing toward me this time, “if the Luna finds all of this,” her hand waves vaguely at the gathering, “—a bit… overwhelming.”The women around us titter, as I stare at myself. Every eye staring, judging from within and either talking about the fact that I don’t belong here.I set my cup down carefully, the
