Rhett's POVI watch her staggering, retracting figure moving away from me, and curl my fingers into fists by my side to stop myself from going after her. Then it occurs to me that I never got her full name. Just Danielle. I curse out loud and slide my fingers through my hair that's flying up in all directions due to her running her fingers through it. How exactly am I going to find out who she is with just a first name? I decide to tackle my issues one at a time. Danielle's POVI'm about to go insane. For two days, I've been thinking about that night in the woods at every gooddamn waking hour. My thoughts keep going back to the amazing and unbelievable kiss that I shared with that stranger. I have managed to half convince myself that I must have imagined how out-of-this-world that kiss was. There is absolutely no way it's as good as my head keeps replaying. I mean, the alcohol must have been playing tricks on my mind. But then I recall the tingling I felt deep in my stomach. It takes a while for him to realise that he's the only one laughing because aside from him, everyone else knows that Rhett isn't bluffing. I can see the dead set look in his eyes. Danielle's POV The ride at night is cold, colder than I expected it to be, and piercing into my skin the way a guilty conscience would. Not even a word was said, as I sit in the car with the guards firmly seated beside me like I'm some sort of a criminal that is being taken to prison. My mind is filled up with worries as I try to convince myself that I have not made any mistake with my decision, and the shaking of the car at every rocky bump gives me a feeling that I might be wrong. Despite my worries, I keep telling myself that I have made the right decision, that choosing to leave my family and go with him is the only way to save my pack, but, the truth refused leaving me, and stares me straight in the face. Danielle’s POV My heart stops for a second as I stare at the cup of tea in front of me, half-finished and almost forgotten in an instant as Rhett's words reverberate in my head. "You are mine.” I stay still in my spot with my fist tightened, thinking about the tone with which he said it, and then I watch him perk up to his feet, moving a few feet away from me. The urge to throw the cup at him from behind is almost overwhelming, as I stare at him with hatred burning in my veins. For some reason, he stays rigid and refuses to speak as he has his back turned against me, letting the silence fill up the spaces in our heads. "I am not supposed to be here,” I say silently, breaking the silence between us as my memories flood up again with the thoughts of my family. Danielle’s POV I’ve never worn anything like this before. The gown clings to me like a second skin, pale silver silk that glimmers under the glowing chandeliers. Every time I shift or try to make a move, the fabric sighs. I can’t tell if it’s admiration or judgment in the eyes that follow me as I descend the staircase, but either way, it makes my skin prickle. The ballroom echoes with low conversations, music drifting through the air like smoke. Chandeliers hang heavy above. Not because of the season, but because of the looks that follow me wherever I go in the mansion. Servants bow when I walk by, but the respect feels hollow and practiced. The pack members I pass in the courtyard avert their eyes, yet their whispers trail behind me like the wind itself.
