EMILIA

Sunny hadn’t replied to my message yet. She must still be busy with work. I packed a small bag and texted Tommy that I was ready. He said he would pick me up, so I was waiting at the front of the gate.

Tommy’s car rolled up to the front of my apartment barely ten minutes later. He got out and rushed towards me to grab my bag.

“This little?” he said, holding it up.

“It’s just two days. I’m not planning to run away," I smiled.

He opened the car door for me, and I entered. “Is it far?”

STEVENI waited until the crowd around us had dispersed before I pulled Bianca with me to the nearby empty room.“Steven, you are hurting me.” She whined, trying to free herself, but my grip tightened around her hand, and I didn’t let go until the door shut behind me and it was just the two of us.“What was that?” I demanded.“What?” She wore a pout, rubbing her arm gently. “I should be the one asking that. Why did you grab me so hard?”“Don’t play that game with me, Bianca. "Not now," I warned lowly. “What the fuck was that?”“I don’t know what you are talking about," she insisted, still playing coy, but I wasn’t going to be playing that game with her today.“How are you pregnant when we’ve never had sex since you came back, so there is no way you are pregnant? What kind of game are you pulling now?” I growled, stalking forward. The innocent, confused expression was wiped off her face, but it was replaced with amusement. “Don’t tell me you don’t remember?” she chuckled softly.“Remem

EMILIAI thought about turning back multiple times. There was this nagging voice in my head that kept telling me I was making a rash decision, but then I remembered the life I now carried and the need to protect them at all costs.“Who’s that?” Sunny called from the kitchen when I entered the house.“It’s me," I answered, shutting the door after me.Sunny appeared, a rag in her hand and a frown on her face. “Em? What are you doing back home this early? Did the gala finish on time?”I shook my head, taking a seat. “The gala isn’t over, but I’m done with it.” I muttered. “And everything else that has to do with them," I added with a small voice.“What was that?” Sunny asked, coming to stand in front of me. “Wait, did that woman do something to you again? Today is such a busy day, but she found time to bully you? How despicable could she be?” Sunny ranted.“Bianca didn’t do anything to me. At least not directly." I stopped her.“Then what happened, Em? You look worse than how you did bef

EMILIAThe gala was in full swing now, and everything was going perfectly, just like we planned.Except Alexander was still nowhere to be found."Emilia." I froze when I heard Steven’s voice from behind me.I masked my face into a still expression before I turned. “Yes?”“Have you seen Alexander? I haven’t been able to reach him all day."“Me too," I told him. “I’ve called multiple times, but he isn’t answering."Steven frowned, a worried expression on his face. “I’ll have someone check his apartment.""Okay."I waited for him to leave, but he lingered like he had something to say, and I wasn’t sure that I wanted to hear it, so I turned and left instead.I tried not to think too much about Alexander’s absence and focus on work instead, but it was hard.Steven stood in the middle of the room, taking charge of the donations to the children's hospital.I had to admit. He looked incredibly handsome in his element like this. He stood tall, with his tailored suit fit to perfection and his p

EMILIATwo days passed in a blur, and before I knew it, it was time to face the reality I had escaped temporarily. The last two days had been so quiet and blissful that it had me wondering how I had survived the last years amidst the bustling streets of New York. The break was everything I didn’t know I needed and more.Hannah was such a sweetheart, and I could see why Tommy made sure to steal her away from the Lawsons. She kept me fed, forcing me to try out different meals and recipes. It was a wonder how I could walk. I knew I had gained more weight in just two days.It wasn’t just the food. She didn’t leave me alone for too long to wallow in my thoughts. She would drag me to the garden to help out and tell tales about her grandchildren who she adored.Yesterday, I felt a tinge of jealousy as her eyes shone with love when she talked about them. She showed me all the things she had bought to take back home the next week when she would be allowed to travel.I wanted that love for my b

It’s my private property. The Lawsons have no idea that I bought the place."His words made the remaining tension bleed out of my body like water. I wouldn’t have to worry about Bianca arriving unannounced because one of the workers told her about my presence.“Want to talk about it?” he asked, and I shook my head. “I know my sister has a hand in it, though. It’s Bianca’s

STEVENI swallowed hard as I watched Emilia walk out of the shop. My eyes remained on her as she folded her arms across her chest, a familiar move when she was trying so hard not to show emotions to others.I moved to go after her and apologize for the humiliation Bianca had put her through, but a hand stopped me, gripping my arm tightly.I turned to see Bianca fuming. “What is it?”“Don’t you dare follow her, Steven. What would the people watching think?” she hissed. A surprised look on her face."You just called my employee a thief in front of a room full of people," I said."Your employee." She said with a distasteful tone, "Is that what we're calling her?""That's what she is.""Steven." Her grip tightened. "You are humiliating me. Do you understand that? You are standing in this shop taking that woman's side over mine, and you are humiliating me, and you don't even seem to care.""The bracelet was in her bag because you put it there," I confirmed. It was obvious with the way she

EMILIA“So?” Tommy asked, a brow raised.“Fine.” I finally agreed and fought back the smile trying to show as he grinned. “But I won’t stay long."He looked like he could barely contain his smile, which finally made me let go of mine. “I’ll take what I can get."Tommy took me to a small place that

EMILIAI didn’t sleep. Not after calling him back.Sunny had told me I didn’t have to, but I did anyway because I thought Steven would have thought I was throwing a tantrum, and now I regretted it.I had tried to hold myself together for every second of it. I couldn’t forget the surprise that shook

EMILIAI sat up with a loud gasp as a painful cramp twisted my abdomen. My hand pressed flat against my stomach, as panic wrapped around me.“No,” I whispered, my heart pounding as the pain faded to a dull ache.I threw the sheets back, checking for any sign that my baby was in danger, but I couldn

STEVENThe door had barely closed before Bianca started. I walked towards the glass windows with my back to her and let her complaints wash over me the way I had learned to deal with people like her.It was a skill I had spent most of my life perfecting.“I told you that I wasn’t comfortable with y
