YULIA

“Kendrick,” I whispered, my voice wavering.

He stood on the other side of my office door, and suddenly the room felt much smaller than it had a moment ago.

My fingers gripped the edge of my desk.

I stared at him, unable to process the fact that the man I’d spent four years trying to forget was standing just a few feet away.

His jaw tightened. Without answering, he walked toward me.

My breath caught.

I instinctively moved backward until the edge of my desk pressed against my hips.

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 133: What Did You Do?

KENDRICKBack in my office, I sat behind my desk and loosened my tie as I stared through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Yulia had challenged the technical evidence intelligently, and I couldn't fault her for doing her job. What bothered me was the possibility that she might actually be onto something. The discrepancies she'd pointed out weren't enough to invalidate anything yet, but they were enough to make me want my team to go through every line of data again.I had spent years building Fernsby Technologies into something capable of handling cases like this, yet one conversation with Yulia had made me question whether we had missed something. My phone suddenly vibrated across the desk.My accountant was calling. It caught my attention because he rarely called me directly unless something required my attention. I answered. “Hello, Clarence?”“Good afternoon, Mr. Fernsby.”“Good afternoon.”“I'm sorry to call you directly, sir. I know you're probably busy.”“It's fine. What's going

YULIAThe courtroom was already crowded when my team and I walked in.“Ready?” Mr. Harrison asked.“Yes.”I tightened my grip on the leather folder and took a slow breath before heading to the defence table.I had handled criminal matters before and knew how to stand before a judge, present an argument, and keep emotion out of my voice. But this case was different. Kendrick was here. The evidence against Nikolai was far more complicated than the prosecution had initially made it out to be.I glanced across the courtroom.Alexander’s legal team was already seated. Behind them sat representatives from Fernsby Technologies.Kendrick sat beside his technical team, dressed in a blue-black suit with a tablet resting in front of him. He looked completely composed, as though this were another business meeting. His eyes lifted, finding mine right away. His expression barely changed, but I noticed the slight tightening around his eyes.I broke eye contact first.Focus, Yulia. The judge entered

KENDRICK“Daddy?” I could hear my daughter's voice, but the words hardly registered as Yulia, and I continued to stare at each other from opposite sides of the backyard.I looked down. “Hmm?”She pointed toward the house. “Can we get food?”I smiled. “In a minute.”Then I looked back at Yulia. She was still staring at me.I felt the same pull I had felt in her office. The same one I'd been fighting since forever. Then Natalie shifted beside me.I cut my eyes to her. She was staring at Yulia. Her expression was difficult to read.Surprise.Tension.Maybe even discomfort. I knew she hadn't expected to see Yulia here. But unlike Natalie, I couldn't look away.Yulia finally broke eye contact. She looked toward Nalani, held her gaze for a fleeting moment, then back at me. I wondered what she was thinking. Was she imagining what my life had become? Was she wondering how different things might have been if she had stayed?Or was she simply seeing me as a married man with a child? That last

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 130: The Way He Looked at Me

YULIAThe week had gone by much faster than I expected. Somehow, I'd settled back into a routine more easily than I thought I would. I smiled to myself as I moved around my apartment, cleaning up the small mess I'd made during the week. Music played softly through my speakers, filling the rooms with a warmth that made the morning feel lighter.“Love me like you do, love me like you do. . .”I hummed along with Ellie Goulding's song, occasionally singing the lyrics under my breath as I wiped down the kitchen counter.I laughed quietly at myself, realizing how much I missed moments like this. When the song ended, I turned off the music and looked around the apartment.Clean enough.“Finally!” I placed the cloth aside and headed to the bathroom.Judging by how much Dad insisted I come over for brunch today, I knew it wasn't just a simple meal. I showered, washed my hair, and stood in front of the mirror afterward with a towel wrapped around my body and another around my hair.I studie

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 129: I Won't Let Silence Decide

KENDRICKI didn't look back when I left Yulia's office. If I did, I knew I would walk straight back in.My steps were steady, but my mind was anything but. I could still feel the softness of her hair beneath my fingers. I could still remember the way she closed her eyes when I touched her. That damn reaction did something to me.She was affected too.I knew she was.Seeing her again had answered one question.Whatever existed between us hadn't disappeared. It had only been buried. The elevator doors opened on the ground floor, and I walked through the lobby without stopping to acknowledge anyone. Jonathan was waiting near the entrance, talking to one of the lawyers, but he looked up when he saw me.His eyebrows lifted.I gave him a look that told him not to ask.“I’ll call you later,” I stated. He nodded, and I walked to my car. Inside the car, I sat for several seconds in sudden silence, rested my hands on the wheel, and breathed. I laughed under my breath. “What the hell are you

Without answering, he walked toward me. My breath caught.I instinctively moved backward until the edge of my desk pressed against my hips. Kendrick stopped only a few inches away, close enough that I could feel the warmth of his body.A hard lump formed in my throat. His eyes searched my face, lingering over every detail as though he was trying to memorize what four years had changed.“You really came back,” he murmured.I didn't know what to say. My heart pounded so hard that I was afraid he could hear it.Then his hand lifted. My body went still. His fingers reached toward my face, and before I could move away, he brushed a loose

YULIA“This is it?” I asked, glancing around the parking lot filled with cars. “Yes.” Kendrick parked his car and turned to me. “Ever been to a street race?”I shook my head wildly, speechless all of a sudden. His expression barely changed, but his eyes said otherwise . “Then prepare yourself. Yo

KENDRICK“What were they thinking, letting her live with you?” Victor asked, leaning back lazily in the chair across from my desk like he owned the space.“Safety.” I shrugged, flipping through the folder in front of me without bothering to look up. “Apparently, her father thinks London will collap

YULIA“We’re almost there, baby girl.” My father watched me as I angled towards the side window, lost in my thoughts.“I still can’t believe you eloped and got married.” I glanced at him, and he was smiling.“Well… I can’t be single forever. I’m ready to settle down and spend the rest of my life wi

YULIA“So you’re telling me that you’re living with the Kendrick Fernsby?” Adeline asked dramatically, raising both hands to make quotation marks in the air. I laughed, taking another sip of my pineapple smoothie. I had decided to meet her at The Good Life Eatery because their smoothies were ridic
