The alpha's defiant mate

My mom made pancakes, bacon and eggs this morning for breakfast. I got up just a little late, took a shower and made my way down the stairs. I could hear my parents discussing something in a very low tone. I couldn't quite make out their words. I went to the table and sat at the table to the left of my father. He grabbed my hand and gave it a little squeeze. We waited in silence until my mom brought the food to the table. I immediately started loading up my plate with pancakes, bacon and eggs. As a werewolf we normally eat more than humans but it didn't seem to make me get fat. I guess that's because we use more energy.

We were living amongst a few other families that are not a part of a pack. My parents explained explicitly that the reason we all lived away from packs was because by pack law if a female that has turned eighteen and gotten her wolf can be made to be given to any male pack members for what ever they choose fit. The only way a female pack member doesn't have that fate is if she is mated to her mate by her fated mate given to her by the Goddess.

I know we are considered rogues but, unlike other rogues, we don't go looking for trouble. We don't go into pack territories and try to kill them. We all just live peacefully and away from any pack lands. Not All packs live under the old pack rules where they use unmarked women for slaves and to produce pups for the men in the pack. None of our people know exactly which packs treat the unmarked females right and which packs treat the unmarked females with respect and honor, the way we should be treated. We have only had a few occasions where packs have found out where we are living but it just meant we had to move immediately. We have lived where we are now the longest without being found. All our families are very close knit. We are trained to fight in human and werewolf forms.

My mom and dad told me that we needed to have a long discussion later today and that worried me. Every once in a while I know that we've been sending some of the males around to scout and see about other packs and see what their views on the old pack rules were. I'm not quite sure why I had this really bad feeling eating at me but it feels like I'm missing something. I had just turned eighteen about three months ago and I have no idea what they could possibly want to discuss with me. I continued with my morning and went to training with my best friend April. April hasn't turned eighteen yet but she will next month. As children we always thought about finding our fated mates and what that would mean. When we were pups we didn't know about the many packs that offered women up as slaves and pup incubators. Since we found out we have been hoping and praying to the Moon Goddess for a pack that didn't treat she-wolves badly.

Last night I even had a dream or nightmare of finding my fated mate and then being ripped away by another pack that didn't respect she-wolves. I woke up sweaty and I couldn't slow my heartbeat down. As I took my shower I remembered where I was and knew that it was only a dream. If only we knew of a pack where we would be safe then I would finally be able to find my fated mate.

April and I were sparring partners during training which lasted about an hour. Once we finished up we went back our own places. We had a plan to get showered and changed before we met back up at my house. We met up so we could go to the closest human town to do some shopping. We went in my old Chevy Silverado so we wouldn't stick out, just like we have always have done. This is truly the longest we've been able to stay in the same place since we were pups. We've grown accustomed to being able to do what we want. This time when we went into town I still had that nagging feeling from what my parents said. I'm worried because I still didn't know what they wanted to talk to me about.

As April and I were shopping at the mall we discussed the fact that my parents had made a point to tell me that we needed to have a discussion later. "Maybe you can sit in on our discussion after we get done shopping and go home," I told her. I really didn't want to be alone in case I was getting bad news. I'm sure that my parents will want to have our little discussion once we get back because it would be dinner time. "I'll let my parents know that I'm eating over at your house tonight and I will be home shortly after," April told me. We went through the mall looking for shoes and outfits. I found some of the most comfortable boots that were on sale. They even had a furry overlap at the top of them. April found a nice pair of thick black leather boots. Once we got done shopping we decided to head home to have dinner.

As we headed home April called her parents to let them know she was coming home with me to have dinner. It was normal for her and I to eat at each other's houses since we've been friends since we were young pups. April was tall with long ash blonde hair with a peppy personality. She was always in a good mood and easy to smile at others to make them happy. I was a bit shorter with black hair that was shorter than her hair.

As we pulled up to my house I started getting that nagging feeling again. We unloaded the truck with our purchases and headed into my house. The house smelled wonderful from the dinner that was cooking. April and I ran up to my room and left our bags there instead of in the living room. When we made it downstairs my mom and dad told us that we were expecting guests for dinner and we would have to wait.
