CHAPTER 32: Regained Identity

Jaime ran all the way from school to the omega district without stopping for a second.

His lungs burned. His legs ached. But he didn't care. He needed to get to Aliyah. Needed to make sure he was safe after what happened to Sophie.

He burst through the door of Rosa's house, startling everyone inside.

"Aliyah!" he shouted.

Aliyah was on the couch. He looked pale and tired, but alive, hurt.

Relief flooded through Jaime so strongly his knees almost gave out.

"Thank godness," he breathed, crossing the room in three quick steps. He knelt down in front of Aliyah and grabbed his hands. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

Aliyah shook his head, but his golden eyes were different. Deeper somehow. Like he was seeing things he hadn't seen before.

Jamie frowned a little, noticing the slight change of the atmosphere around him.

"He collapsed about an hour ago," Rosa explained. "Just fainted. We couldn't wake him up for a while. Scared us half to death."
