Chapter 005

Esther's POV

I watched as blood rushed out of my stomach. I felt dizzy all of a sudden.

The next thing I heard was, “Help, she is bleeding!” an old man entered and placed his hands on my stomach.

Before I could alter a word. I heard the sound of a commotion outside the ward and a group of nurses frantically rushed in. I couldn't comprehend what was going on.

For a moment, I felt the breeze. My heart turns to ice. I could feel the nurses stitching my stomach.

I snapped out of my gaze when one of the nurses said to her colleague;

“She is safe, it is not a deep cut.”

That is the last thing I registered before I closed my eyes, my heart in my mouth.

I could hear their footsteps going outside the ward.

Why did they save me?

Why did they stop me from going to my son?

My soul would have been with my son by now.

“fuck!” I groaned, frantic with anger.

An old man entered the ward as he came to sit beside me. I recognized him. He was the one that saved me. I felt like strangling him to death. My hand balled into a fist as I gritted my teeth.

“Are you OK?” he asked as he placed his hands on my lap, trying to make me feel better.

I swallowed the lump in my throat as all the tears I was struggling to hold back streamed down my cheeks in torrents.

“I know, you might be facing a lot right now. But to kill yourself is not a good idea. Your future will be far better than your past, my child,” he consoled.

Hearing his words, a wave of relief washed over me. I felt like something heavy was removed from my chest.

“ Who are you?” I asked him as tears streamed down my face.

“I'm just a cleaner here. I was directed to come and clean up the broken glass, then I found you bleeding,” he explained.

I let out a heavy sigh. What he said was true. The future is far better than the past. But as long as I'm alive, maya and Micheal won't get away with this.

“I'm leaving now. Please don't hurt yourself again,”

I ignored him. I swallowed the painful lump in my throat. A nurse suddenly entered the ward and gave me my discharge papers.

“You are free to go, ma'am,” she said. “Please take good care of yourself and take your medication on time,” she added.

I gave her a nod of understanding as I got up from the bed feeling pains all over my body.

It suddenly hits me that I don't have any money with me and I had nowhere to go. Driven with anger and frustration, I walked out of the hospital and hailed a cab which took me to my parents' house.

***

I stood in front of the luxurious mansion, my heart beating faster. The last time I set my eyes on this house was the day before our wedding.

‘You either choose us or that fucking boy!’

My father's voice to me the day I left the house. A wave of embarrassment washed over me.

I could have been standing there with my pregnancy news, about to break the exciting news to my mother that she would soon be a grandmother.

My parents were right after all, they saw what I couldn't see at all. They saw what I couldn't see about Michael, but I was blindly in love.

I remember when I used to lay on my mother's lap. I remember when my dad used to kiss me on the forehead any time I was going to school.

It all changed the day I introduced Michael to them. I fell in love with him and rebelled against my mom and dad, just so I could marry him. Michael deceived me by making me feel safe in his company.

My heart tightened in pain and anger as tears streamed down my face like a river. I regret knowing Maya and Micheal in my life.

I wiped off my tears, sniffed and took a deep breath, gathering the courage to knock on the door.

“Who is there?” my mother's voice, the voice I didn't hear for years, asked. I was rendered speechless as tears blurred my sight.

She opened the door as her gaze fixed on mine. My mom looked the same as the last day I set my eyes on her. In fact, she looked younger and more beautiful.

“Mom!” I shouted as I ran and hugged her tight. My mother froze there, she didn't even return the hug. She was confused and shocked. I knew she had millions of questions to ask.

I was bothered by her lack of response. All I needed was someone by my side. Someone who I could cry on his shoulders. Someone I could express my feelings to.

“Sweetheart, what is happening to you lately?” she asked as she gathered me around her arms.

“Mom, my life is fucked up,” I managed to say as the words tasted bitter in my mouth.

She gasped and furrowed her brows.

“Let's OK, come in,” she gestured to me inside. I wandered around the living room and nothing changed. It feels like I just left the house yesterday.

“Tell me, what is wrong with you, Esther? I'm your mother, explain everything to me,” she said as she sat next to me, her eyes shining with tears.

I don't think I could narrate everything to her. My heart was breaking. All I could do was sob.

My mother couldn't help but join me. She wrapped me around her arms, trying to comfort me, whispering comforting words to me. She was trying to be strong for me like she always does.

“You have to tell me what happened. I'm willing to fight and make each one of them regret it,” my mother said with an assuring voice.

Chapter 042John's POV I watched as Esther ran to the car, her fragile figure trembling. I can see the pain in her eyes and soul. That ex-husband of hers really dealt with her. He made her life miserable and I would be by Esther's side every step of her avenge. She was my wife, and it hurts me to see her pale. Without even sparing a glance at the doctor, I stormed out of his office, straight to the car. Esther was already in the car, her head low, lost in thought. “Hey!” I whispered, placing a hand on my lap. She sniffed, whipping off her tears before glancing at me. “John, I need to destroy Michael, but I can't do that without your help. I can't make any move without your help. The help I need from you is to uplift my company. I want to be a well-known CEO, a very influential one, please,” she said with her trembling lips. She made a very big request and I couldn't say ‘no’ to her. I guess it would be better for me to seek something in return. I cleared my throat. “Well, I am

Chapter 041Esther's POV I opened my eyes slowly as the bright sun rays projected at my face. I blinked repeatedly, trying to get accustomed to the light. I had anticipated the day all night because it was the day I wanted to go to the hospital and demand an answer about why the doctor lied to me. The answer I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear or not. Looking at the other side of the bed, John was already awake, he was not in the room. Still groggy from sleep, I forced myself up and headed to the bathroom. I took my bath and got dressed before heading downstairs. Each step echoed through the silent house as I made my way to the dining room.“Good morning ma'am,” the maid greeted, breaking the silence. His head bowed low as she placed the tray in her hands on the table.“Morning, Is my husband out?” “No ma'am, he is in the living room,” she replied. I nodded stiffly before heading to the living room. My hand tightened around the knob, and with a deep breath I turned it. The door swun

Chapter 040John's POV “John, who really is Jessica to you?” Esther asked. The silence that followed the room was almost defeating. I felt a storm of emotion. I slowly raised my head and my eyes met hers. I saw something in her, I couldn't quite place, perhaps confusion and jealousy. “I'm so sorry you have to experience this,” I said quietly. “Well, to be honest, Jessica and I dated back then in college. She left me for a guy who is rich, leaving me heartbroken and devastated. Since then, I have considered her as just a friend,” I said, looking into her eyes, hoping she could see the sincerity in me. “Look, Esther, there is nothing between us, I promise. I was just trying to help her,” I added. Esther nodded before placing a hand on my cheek, sending shivers down my spine. “I know the man I'm married to. I believe you,” she plastered a cute smile on her face. A wave of relief washed over me. Thankfully, Esther was an understanding person. My mind was crowded with thoughts tryi

Chapter 039Esther's POV The house was quiet as I slowly woke up, the soft hum of the morning light filtering through the curtains. I noticed the other side of the bed was empty and showed no signs of John. My heart skipped to beat as different wild thoughts ran through my head. The silence of the atmosphere was interrupted by a burst of laughter. I frowned as I slipped out of bed and followed the sound. The laughter grew louder and mingled with the clinking of dishes. Pushing open the kitchen door, I met a scene that stung more than a knife to the heart. John and an unknown woman standing at the counter had their movements in perfect harmony as if they had practiced this routine a thousand times. The woman leaned closer to John, her hands pushing him as they worked together.I had no idea who that woman was, but I didn't think she was his relative. John, who always seemed so reserved, was laughing at the jokes the woman was cracking. His laughter was so rich and genuine, a sound

  • The billionaire's love    Confirmation

Chapter 038Esther's POV John helped me get seated in the car as I was still in shock about my pregnancy. It felt like a dream. I had been trying to puzzle out what was happening to me. Is it that the doctor who attended to me during my accident wasn't professional, or I was really not pregnant? It's just some misunderstanding. I turned and looked at John who was seated beside me, buried in thought. The silence in the atmosphere was too thick to cut with a knife.‘Do you love me?’ These words echoed in my ears like a thunderstorm. I wasn't sure if I could answer that question so far, since after our marriage John had been considerate to me in every way. I thought these three words “I love you” were not that important and our marriage was still happy without them. I gently place my hand on my belly, emotionally feeling my child inside of me. I wasn't really sure if I was pregnant or not, but, yes! It felt real. All of a sudden, the car came to a halt, bringing me back to life. As

  • The billionaire's love    What Really Happened

Chapter 037John's POV Reaching the ward, Esther was already asleep; the soft click from the door made her open her eyes slowly. I walked towards her, wearing a smile on my face. “Hey, little doll,” I whispered. She stretched her hand to hold mine, demanding that I sit close to her. “Hey John, welcome back. How did it go?” she asked. “Ah… It was superb, a company was demanding collaboration with us, that's all,” I said. “Uhm… Actually, I'm still in the dark about what you said earlier, regarding your pregnancy,” I added, trying to bring back the conversation. She rolled her eyes before letting out a heavy sigh which made my heart sink. My gaze fixed on her lips impatiently waiting for her to explain. She adjusted a bit before clearing her throat. “It has been years since I divorced my husband, but the memory still remains fresh every fucking day, as if it just happened yesterday. The day I divorced my husband, I was involved in a car accident, and I was a few weeks pregnant…”
