Chapter 006

Michael's POV

“Is my mom still alive or dead?” I managed to ask as multiple thoughts crossed my mind.

“She is alive. Fortunately, someone donated her blood to your mom and your mom is safe now,” the doctor said.

I wiped off the sweats that rolled down my forehead as a wave of relief washed over me.

“Can I see her please?” I asked the doctor anxiously.

“Sure you can,” he said as he called a nurse to direct me to the ward. My heart skipped a beat when I saw my mom lying in the blue patient gown.

I quickly rushed and pulled her into a bear hug and I almost burst into tears as her familiar peach scent filled my nostrils.

I couldn't imagine life without my mother.

I was not too close to my dad like I was with my mom, but when he died, I almost collapsed from a heart attack.

“Mom, how are you holding up?” I asked softly. My heart was beating faster.

She forced a smile on her face. It was written all over her face that she was in pain, but she tried to be strong. “I'm alright, dear,” she whispered.

“What happened to you?” I asked.

Tears suddenly filled her eyes as she frowned.

“It's alright, I already know,” I whispered, holding her cold palms.

Esther was the reason my mother is in the hospital.

I imagined what mom was facing. She took Esther like her own child.

I knew the heartbreak and pain was unbearable.

Esther was the reason my mother collapsed.

I never want to see her in my life again.

“I promise you will never set your eyes on her,” I said to my mother with an assuring voice. She nodded as tears streamed down her face.

Suddenly, a nurse entered and gave me her medicine and a prescription.

“Here are her medicines, sir, please make sure she takes them on time and, if there is anything, you can reach us via the number we called earlier,” the nurse said.

“Sure, thank you so much, let me save the number right away.”

My heart skipped a beat when I put my hands in my pockets and my phone was nowhere to be found.

“Where did I drop it?” I whispered.

I then suddenly remembered I flung it when I got the news that my mom was in the hospital. “Ahh fuck!” I groaned in annoyance, then I let out a heavy sigh.

“Mom, we are discharged, let's go home,” I said as I helped her get up from bed and gently placed her arm across my shoulder before walking her to my car.

“Mom, you will be in my house in the meantime. Maybe by tomorrow, if I'm sure you are alright, I will drive you home,” I suggested.

“Alright, no problem dear,” she replied.

A thought popped into my head as I started the car engine. Maya is at my house, and I'm driving my mom there.

Would mom hate Maya for Esther's sin knowing they were best friends?

“Mom, what do you think of Maya, Esther's friend,” I said as I looked into her face through the rearview mirror.

She raised her head and glanced at me through the mirror. “I don't know, I barely know her. Why did you ask?” she asked.

I breathed heavily and gathered the courage to tell her the truth. “Mom, I'm in love with her,” I said, still staring at her eyes to see her reaction.

She gasped as she rolled her eyes. That made my heart clenched.

Panic. I was panicking.

There was silence for a while between us.

“Well, if you trust her then you have my blessings,” she said.

A creep of a smile appeared on my face. The last time I heard something sweet was the day Maya said she loved me too.

I drove straight to the jewelry store. Who would ever think I would be here again, buying another wedding ring?

“Please, can I get a couples ring?” I asked the woman at the receptionist.

“Sure,” she answered. The first one that was brought to me drove me crazy because of its cuteness. I took it and made payment with my debit card, then walked back to my car and drove home.

“Maya!” I shouted her name from the entrance door as I carried my mother.

“Yes! " You are back. Where did..” Maya was rendered speechless when she opened the door and saw me standing with my mom in my hands.

“Oh my god, what happened?” she asked.

“She collapsed, but she is alright now,” I answered as I walked past her into the house.

I laid mom on the couch. “Thank you so much dear,” she said, with a forceful smile.

Maya then rushed to the kitchen and got some water. She poured it in the glass cup and placed it on mom's lips. Mom rose a bit and took a sip.

“Thank you so much, Maya,” she said as she placed her hand on Maya's cheeks.

“You are welcome, mother. I know you must be hungry. Let me get you something to eat really quick,” Maya said as she made her way to the kitchen.

Mom dragged me close to her.

“Maya is so sweet, Michael,” she whispered. Her words sent shivers up my spine. I feel my lips spreading, leaving a smile on my face.

I could feel butterflies all over my stomach.

Mother had finally accepted Maya.

Maya would be the only person that could make my mother forget about Esther.

Maya would be the only person that could heal the wound Esther caused in mom's heart.

I quickly stood up and headed straight to the kitchen.

Maya was busy cutting vegetables. She didn't even notice my presence.

I took a deep breath and exhaled. I knelt down and grabbed the wedding ring from my pocket. I opened the case gently and took out the ring.

“Maya,” I whispered to her.

She turned gently and faced me.

“Will you marry me?” I asked.

Chapter 042John's POV I watched as Esther ran to the car, her fragile figure trembling. I can see the pain in her eyes and soul. That ex-husband of hers really dealt with her. He made her life miserable and I would be by Esther's side every step of her avenge. She was my wife, and it hurts me to see her pale. Without even sparing a glance at the doctor, I stormed out of his office, straight to the car. Esther was already in the car, her head low, lost in thought. “Hey!” I whispered, placing a hand on my lap. She sniffed, whipping off her tears before glancing at me. “John, I need to destroy Michael, but I can't do that without your help. I can't make any move without your help. The help I need from you is to uplift my company. I want to be a well-known CEO, a very influential one, please,” she said with her trembling lips. She made a very big request and I couldn't say ‘no’ to her. I guess it would be better for me to seek something in return. I cleared my throat. “Well, I am

Chapter 041Esther's POV I opened my eyes slowly as the bright sun rays projected at my face. I blinked repeatedly, trying to get accustomed to the light. I had anticipated the day all night because it was the day I wanted to go to the hospital and demand an answer about why the doctor lied to me. The answer I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear or not. Looking at the other side of the bed, John was already awake, he was not in the room. Still groggy from sleep, I forced myself up and headed to the bathroom. I took my bath and got dressed before heading downstairs. Each step echoed through the silent house as I made my way to the dining room.“Good morning ma'am,” the maid greeted, breaking the silence. His head bowed low as she placed the tray in her hands on the table.“Morning, Is my husband out?” “No ma'am, he is in the living room,” she replied. I nodded stiffly before heading to the living room. My hand tightened around the knob, and with a deep breath I turned it. The door swun

Chapter 040John's POV “John, who really is Jessica to you?” Esther asked. The silence that followed the room was almost defeating. I felt a storm of emotion. I slowly raised my head and my eyes met hers. I saw something in her, I couldn't quite place, perhaps confusion and jealousy. “I'm so sorry you have to experience this,” I said quietly. “Well, to be honest, Jessica and I dated back then in college. She left me for a guy who is rich, leaving me heartbroken and devastated. Since then, I have considered her as just a friend,” I said, looking into her eyes, hoping she could see the sincerity in me. “Look, Esther, there is nothing between us, I promise. I was just trying to help her,” I added. Esther nodded before placing a hand on my cheek, sending shivers down my spine. “I know the man I'm married to. I believe you,” she plastered a cute smile on her face. A wave of relief washed over me. Thankfully, Esther was an understanding person. My mind was crowded with thoughts tryi

Chapter 039Esther's POV The house was quiet as I slowly woke up, the soft hum of the morning light filtering through the curtains. I noticed the other side of the bed was empty and showed no signs of John. My heart skipped to beat as different wild thoughts ran through my head. The silence of the atmosphere was interrupted by a burst of laughter. I frowned as I slipped out of bed and followed the sound. The laughter grew louder and mingled with the clinking of dishes. Pushing open the kitchen door, I met a scene that stung more than a knife to the heart. John and an unknown woman standing at the counter had their movements in perfect harmony as if they had practiced this routine a thousand times. The woman leaned closer to John, her hands pushing him as they worked together.I had no idea who that woman was, but I didn't think she was his relative. John, who always seemed so reserved, was laughing at the jokes the woman was cracking. His laughter was so rich and genuine, a sound

  • The billionaire's love    Confirmation

Chapter 038Esther's POV John helped me get seated in the car as I was still in shock about my pregnancy. It felt like a dream. I had been trying to puzzle out what was happening to me. Is it that the doctor who attended to me during my accident wasn't professional, or I was really not pregnant? It's just some misunderstanding. I turned and looked at John who was seated beside me, buried in thought. The silence in the atmosphere was too thick to cut with a knife.‘Do you love me?’ These words echoed in my ears like a thunderstorm. I wasn't sure if I could answer that question so far, since after our marriage John had been considerate to me in every way. I thought these three words “I love you” were not that important and our marriage was still happy without them. I gently place my hand on my belly, emotionally feeling my child inside of me. I wasn't really sure if I was pregnant or not, but, yes! It felt real. All of a sudden, the car came to a halt, bringing me back to life. As

  • The billionaire's love    What Really Happened

Chapter 037John's POV Reaching the ward, Esther was already asleep; the soft click from the door made her open her eyes slowly. I walked towards her, wearing a smile on my face. “Hey, little doll,” I whispered. She stretched her hand to hold mine, demanding that I sit close to her. “Hey John, welcome back. How did it go?” she asked. “Ah… It was superb, a company was demanding collaboration with us, that's all,” I said. “Uhm… Actually, I'm still in the dark about what you said earlier, regarding your pregnancy,” I added, trying to bring back the conversation. She rolled her eyes before letting out a heavy sigh which made my heart sink. My gaze fixed on her lips impatiently waiting for her to explain. She adjusted a bit before clearing her throat. “It has been years since I divorced my husband, but the memory still remains fresh every fucking day, as if it just happened yesterday. The day I divorced my husband, I was involved in a car accident, and I was a few weeks pregnant…”
