My smile vanished when I realized Aiden was speaking to Isabella. Of course, his possessive fiancé would call him at that moment.

He kept glancing toward my direction after walking away to speak in a hushed tone. And I tried not to make eye contact with him until the call was over.

Then he walked back to me and I faced him.

“I'm sorry, Sophia. I know you're still shaken but Isabella wants me. So I have to…”

“You've got to go right? Yeah I figured when she called. Thanks for saving me though” I cut him off.

He stared at me for the next few seconds that passed. Then he nodded in response and gestured toward the fire extinguisher he dropped when I hugged him.

“I'll take that and return it then. I've called the police and they'll be here to get him. You can take care of yourself right?” he asked me.

I nodded before forcing a smile even though that foreign feeling I felt when I saw him and Isabella walk into the conference room had returned and gnawed at my inside.
