In the board meeting room, everyone was already seated, the company's executives among them. A few minutes of quiet shuffling passed, and then the door opened and the company president walked in.

Adrian.

The entire room rose to greet him, a gesture of respect. He gave a small motion of his hand. "Please, take your seats. Let us begin."

He lowered himself into his chair and allowed a moment of silence to settle over the table. Then he looked up and called out the next name on the agenda.

"Development Team 4."

It was Ms. Victoria's group.

"Is the chef ready?" President Adrian asked.

"Actually..." Ms. Victoria's words began to stumble. "Ms. Chloe was supposed to present for our team."

She never got to finish.

"Why? Is there a problem?" Adrian asked.

"Well, that's..."

The sound of the door opening cut her off. Ms. Victoria turned around, and so did everyone else.

It was Chloe.

She slipped into the boardroom on her toes, her face and half her body hidden behind a mask, as though she hoped nobody would see her at all. The whole room, of course, saw nothing else. Heads turned. Eyes followed her, awkward and curious. Chloe kept her gaze down and walked straight to where the projector was displaying her slides.

"I'm sorry for being late," she said.

She waited a few seconds to steady herself before she began.

"Hello. My name is Chloe Bennett, from Food Product Development Team 4." She drew a breath. "The chef we are recommending..."

"You are going to present like this?"

Adrian's voice cut across her. Chloe turned back, startled.

"S-sir?" she said, barely above a whisper.

"It's hard to hear you," Adrian said. "Remove your mask."

Chloe's hand rose slowly toward her face and stopped there.

"The mask?"

Across the room, a manager was making small, urgent gestures, telling her to take it off.

Oh, my God. What am I going to do?

Her mind raced for an excuse.

"I actually have a cold," she said, and coughed once, twice, to make the lie convincing.

Adrian studied her for a moment.

"Then keep it on."

"Yes, sir."

Chloe turned back to the screen and steadied her voice.

"The chef we are recommending today is Chef Caleb of Highgrape Kitchen, and the main menu is his white kimchi ravioli. The reason we are recommending this chef is because of his style of cooking..."

She continued with her explanation, gradually finding her confidence as she went through the presentation. Adrian listened attentively, occasionally glancing at the slides. Even he seemed impressed by how well she explained the proposal.

After careful consideration of the presentation, the board agreed to collaborate with the chef. One by one, the executives filed out of the room.

Meanwhile, Aria was on a house hunt, walking through an apartment beside the agent.

"Look, this place is right in the middle of New York, and very close to the subway stations," the agent said. "It's a great location."

"And all these appliances come with the apartment, right?" Aria asked.

"Of course. They come with the apartment!

They finished the inspection and stepped out together, talking over the details as they went. By the time they reached the door, Aria had made up her mind. She agreed to the terms, paid, and signed the contract.

Chloe, on the other hand, couldn't wait to share her good news. As soon as she got off work, she headed straight to Chef Caleb's restaurant, smiling with joy. She hurried through the door like an excited child.

"Printing out the ingredient analysis took so long, that's why I'm late," she said, all in one breath. "But I couldn't wait to tell you, Chef Caleb!”

  • The contract Bride of The Ruthless CEO    One Step Away from the Truth

Chloe went to work the next day. Something had happened on the way back with Adrian. A ball had struck her in the face, leaving a bruise. She had tried everything she could think of to cover it up. She also had another reason to hide it: she couldn't let Adrian discover who she really was. She arrived with only a few minutes left before the usual morning check, so she hurried toward the elevator with a patch covering one eye. She had just reached out to press the button when Adrian stepped into the same elevator. Chloe froze. In her shock, she let go of the patch, revealing the bruise beneath it. Adrian had seen it. Her secret was out. She quickly pressed the button and fled the elevator at the first opportunity. Adrian stood there, watching her leave. The bruise and the sudden way she had bolted only made him more suspicious. He walked straight to his office, his mind racing with thoughts he couldn't shake. Had he really gone on a date with one of his own employees? He paced a

Chloe and Adrian arrived at their destination. It was his grandfather's house. "Maybe I should have taken something to calm my nerves," Chloe murmured as she stepped onto the grounds. "Are you nervous?" Adrian asked. "Didn't you say you had this under control?" "Mr. Ethan said your grandfather is a very scary, very strict person." Chloe swallowed. "If he finds out we're lying to him..." "If you're scared," Adrian said, "then while we're inside, try to love me for real." "What?" Chloe stared at him, stunned. "Let's go," Adrian said. They stepped inside. Adrian's grandfather was already seated, rubbing his hands together like some kind of mafia boss. "Hey!" Adrian greeted him. "Ms. Stephanie!" the old man exclaimed, turning to a servant standing nearby. "You are as beautiful as I imagined." "Not her. Her," Adrian corrected, looking at Chloe, who was standing behind him. Adrian had no idea that Stephanie wasn't her real name. She was Chloe, an employee of his own company. "Wh

Chloe reached Caleb's restaurant to find the door still open. It must be closing time, she thought. She stepped inside, her eyes sweeping the room."Are there still customers?" she murmured to herself, walking deeper into the restaurant. The file from the company was pressed against her chest.A few steps further, she saw Caleb. He was with a woman, and the two of them were laughing, completely at ease with each other."Come on! You can't just do that all of a sudden. Look, I've spilled it everywhere!" the woman said, holding a glass in her hand as she laughed.Chloe stopped where she stood. She did not know what to do with her feet, her hands, or even her face. Her world felt as though it had been crushed into pieces. She had a crush on Caleb, a very big one, and she had carried it quietly for a long time. Then she saw the worst thing she could have imagined. They kissed, right there in front of her.In a state of shock, Chloe let go of the file. It hit the floor with a loud thud, ma

  • The contract Bride of The Ruthless CEO    A Chance to Prove Herself

Chloe hurried into the building, praying she wouldn't be late. She signed in at the front desk, barely slowing down, and made straight for the department's team office. Her bag landed on her desk with a dull thud. She didn't even stop to catch her breath. Ms. Victoria was standing near the window with a file in her hand, and Chloe crossed the floor to her at once. "Good morning, Ms. Victoria." "Good morning, Chloe." Ms. Victoria looked up. "Yes?" "I finished the profile on Chef Caleb that you requested." Chloe held out a thick file with both hands. "There's also a proposal for our collaboration." Ms. Victoria's brows lifted. "Goodness. Did you finish all of this in one day?" "I already had a few ideas from the last recommendation," Chloe explained. "So it didn't take very long." Ms. Victoria took the file, slipped her glasses on, and began to read. The room seemed to quiet around her. She turned the pages slowly until her finger stopped on a single line. "White kimchi ravioli?"

  • The contract Bride of The Ruthless CEO    A Kiss He Couldn't Forget

Adrian's grandfather sat in his favorite armchair, a cup of coffee in his right hand and his eyes fixed on the television. On the screen, the two leads stood face to face, and the old man reacted to every line. He gasped, nodded, and swatted at the air as if he could reach into the screen and direct them himself. Across the room, Adrian watched without really seeing. On the screen, the two characters leaned toward each other, tilted their heads, and, with a clumsy little bump, their lips touched. Adrian's mind went somewhere else entirely: the street in front of the family business, Chloe's face inches from his own, and the accidental brush of her lips against his. Before he realized what he was doing, his fingers rose to his mouth. The moment replayed in his mind, and he quickly lowered his hand as if someone might have caught him. "What kind of show makes two characters fall for each other after just one kiss?" he muttered, standing up and striding out of the sitting room. "Thi
