INICIAR SESIÓNChloe and Adrian arrived at their destination. It was his grandfather's house.
"Maybe I should have taken something to calm my nerves," Chloe murmured as she stepped onto the grounds. "Are you nervous?" Adrian asked. "Didn't you say you had this under control?" "Mr. Ethan said your grandfather is a very scary, very strict person." Chloe swallowed. "If he finds out we're lying to him..." "If you're scared," Adrian said, "then while we're inside, try to love me for real." "What?" Chloe stared at him, stunned. "Let's go," Adrian said. They stepped inside. Adrian's grandfather was already seated, rubbing his hands together like some kind of mafia boss. "Hey!" Adrian greeted him. "Ms. Stephanie!" the old man exclaimed, turning to a servant standing nearby. "You are as beautiful as I imagined." "Not her. Her," Adrian corrected, looking at Chloe, who was standing behind him. Adrian had no idea that Stephanie wasn't her real name. She was Chloe, an employee of his own company. "What?" His grandfather looked stunned. "Oh, my!" "Nice to meet you, sir," Chloe said. They both laughed awkwardly. Chloe had never been so nervous in her life. The old man invited them into the dining room for a meal, and as they ate, he began asking questions. "You said you majored in art in New Zealand?" he asked Chloe. "Oh, yes, sir," she answered with a smile. "I suppose that's why you seem so unique," he said, complimenting her. Chloe froze before a loud, awkward laugh burst out of her. Since I'm meeting the chairman, I put on a lot of makeup so I wouldn't be recognized. The thought made her laugh even harder. She quickly pulled herself together and pushed a dish toward him. "Try this, sir. They say potatoes are good for people with hypertension. Adrian told me about yours." She was doing her best to play her role. "I have diabetes, too," the old man said. "Bland vegetables like these are probably better than anything cooked to be all sweet and salty, right?" "Ah, indeed. Eating habits are important, but it's even better to combine them with exercise," Chloe replied, trying to recover from her earlier comment. She began touching Adrian lightly, resting her hand on his arm and occasionally adjusting his sleeve, putting on a convincing show of affection for his grandfather's benefit. She even tried to feed him, lifting the food straight to his mouth. Adrian glanced at her, slightly surprised by her sudden affection, but played along. "Ms. Stephanie," the old man called. "Yes, sir?" Chloe replied. She had not given them her real name, and she meant to keep it that way. Stephanie would carry the lie for her. "Do you love Adrian?" Silence fell over the room. Adrian looked at Chloe, and Chloe stared back at him. "Of course!" she said, with all the passion she could gather. "I'm dating him because I love him." "Then why did you break up?" It was a tricky question, and the old man had asked it plainly. "That's..." Chloe glanced at Adrian because she had no idea what to say. "Grandfather, you can't just ask something like that so directly," Adrian said, stepping in. "I'm asking because I need to know, you rascal." His grandfather turned to Chloe. "Come on. Answer me." "Well..." Chloe searched for the right words. "I thought he cared about work more than he cared about me." "Adrian is someone who knows nothing besides work," the old man said. "That won't change in the future, either. Are you all right with that? Because you will keep fighting about it." "Don't worry, sir." Chloe held his gaze. "When we talked things over this time, I decided that I would understand that Adrian puts work above everything else. He's crazy about his work. And after I told him, 'Let's break up,' I ignored all his calls. But he canceled an important meeting and ran over to see me." "Is that true, Adrian?" his grandfather asked. "Let's eat first and discuss that later," Adrian said. "The food is getting cold." "What? Oh, right. Let's eat." The dinner continued, and Chloe did her best to impress the old man. Despite her nervousness, she managed to keep up the act until the meal was over. When it was finally time to leave, they exchanged their goodbyes and headed out.Chloe went to work the next day. Something had happened on the way back with Adrian. A ball had struck her in the face, leaving a bruise. She had tried everything she could think of to cover it up. She also had another reason to hide it: she couldn't let Adrian discover who she really was. She arrived with only a few minutes left before the usual morning check, so she hurried toward the elevator with a patch covering one eye. She had just reached out to press the button when Adrian stepped into the same elevator. Chloe froze. In her shock, she let go of the patch, revealing the bruise beneath it. Adrian had seen it. Her secret was out. She quickly pressed the button and fled the elevator at the first opportunity. Adrian stood there, watching her leave. The bruise and the sudden way she had bolted only made him more suspicious. He walked straight to his office, his mind racing with thoughts he couldn't shake. Had he really gone on a date with one of his own employees? He paced a

Chloe reached Caleb's restaurant to find the door still open. It must be closing time, she thought. She stepped inside, her eyes sweeping the room."Are there still customers?" she murmured to herself, walking deeper into the restaurant. The file from the company was pressed against her chest.A few steps further, she saw Caleb. He was with a woman, and the two of them were laughing, completely at ease with each other."Come on! You can't just do that all of a sudden. Look, I've spilled it everywhere!" the woman said, holding a glass in her hand as she laughed.Chloe stopped where she stood. She did not know what to do with her feet, her hands, or even her face. Her world felt as though it had been crushed into pieces. She had a crush on Caleb, a very big one, and she had carried it quietly for a long time. Then she saw the worst thing she could have imagined. They kissed, right there in front of her.In a state of shock, Chloe let go of the file. It hit the floor with a loud thud, ma
In the board meeting room, everyone was already seated, the company's executives among them. A few minutes of quiet shuffling passed, and then the door opened and the company president walked in. Adrian. The entire room rose to greet him, a gesture of respect. He gave a small motion of his hand. "Please, take your seats. Let us begin." He lowered himself into his chair and allowed a moment of silence to settle over the table. Then he looked up and called out the next name on the agenda. "Development Team 4." It was Ms. Victoria's group. "Is the chef ready?" President Adrian asked. "Actually..." Ms. Victoria's words began to stumble. "Ms. Chloe was supposed to present for our team." She never got to finish. "Why? Is there a problem?" Adrian asked. "Well, that's..." The sound of the door opening cut her off. Ms. Victoria turned around, and so did everyone else. It was Chloe. She slipped into the boardroom on her toes, her face and half her body hidden behind a
Chloe hurried into the building, praying she wouldn't be late. She signed in at the front desk, barely slowing down, and made straight for the department's team office. Her bag landed on her desk with a dull thud. She didn't even stop to catch her breath. Ms. Victoria was standing near the window with a file in her hand, and Chloe crossed the floor to her at once. "Good morning, Ms. Victoria." "Good morning, Chloe." Ms. Victoria looked up. "Yes?" "I finished the profile on Chef Caleb that you requested." Chloe held out a thick file with both hands. "There's also a proposal for our collaboration." Ms. Victoria's brows lifted. "Goodness. Did you finish all of this in one day?" "I already had a few ideas from the last recommendation," Chloe explained. "So it didn't take very long." Ms. Victoria took the file, slipped her glasses on, and began to read. The room seemed to quiet around her. She turned the pages slowly until her finger stopped on a single line. "White kimchi ravioli?"
Adrian's grandfather sat in his favorite armchair, a cup of coffee in his right hand and his eyes fixed on the television. On the screen, the two leads stood face to face, and the old man reacted to every line. He gasped, nodded, and swatted at the air as if he could reach into the screen and direct them himself. Across the room, Adrian watched without really seeing. On the screen, the two characters leaned toward each other, tilted their heads, and, with a clumsy little bump, their lips touched. Adrian's mind went somewhere else entirely: the street in front of the family business, Chloe's face inches from his own, and the accidental brush of her lips against his. Before he realized what he was doing, his fingers rose to his mouth. The moment replayed in his mind, and he quickly lowered his hand as if someone might have caught him. "What kind of show makes two characters fall for each other after just one kiss?" he muttered, standing up and striding out of the sitting room. "Thi
