Chapter one — Survivor

---2028. Denver. Osarios times

A woman in her 20's looked ahead to see a tempestuous storm rolling towards her from a distance and the lightning strikes rumbled in the cloudy Sky. She was completely engrossed by its speed. It felt like her whole world was about to end. Her mind was blank and hopeless.

A woman also in her early 20's hopped out of the car as she called out her name.

"Imogen!! get out of the way!!" She shouted.

Imogen was too stunned to move an inch, a drop of sweat dropped down from her curvy chin and her breathing became heavy.

It felt like she had gone unconscious, all she could see and hear was her drops of sweat dripping down and colliding with the soil and her friend moving in slow motion while screaming her name.

She scurried towards her and pulled her out of the way, they both landed on the ground as the lighting struck the next car beside them and the strom passed by them.

The storm suddenly disappeared and the cloudy sky was clear.  They both stood up to their feet as Catherine panted heavily while Imogen walked towards a car opposite just when she sighted a big dog near a car shivering.

The dog seemed to have come from a long distance. It was badly injured with a series of bruises on its body, it's breath seized slowly as Imogen walked towards him.

It seems to be in a worse condition and he needs emergency treatment. It was extremely scared as Imogen walked on to him.

Abruptly, she heard a voice in her head,  "Save me!"

She looked around to see whether she could find where the voice was coming from before her eyes landed back on the dog who seemed to be weeping silently. "Save me!" She heard it for the second time.

As if she was enchanted by its voice, She helped the dog into the car.

"What the heck is wrong with you girl? You almost got yourself killed out there" Catherine scolded.

Imogen ignored her and got back into the car. Catherine couldn't rebuke her less because of the situation that just occured.

Ignoring her annoyed her the most. Absolute silence dominated  the atmosphere as they headed to the hospital.

After a few minutes' drive, they got to R.A pet hospital. One of the nurses was already outside awaiting their arrival with a stretcher as instructed by Imogen.

Imogen is a skilled veterinary doctor and the best amongst the doctors at the hospital.

She is gorgeous with her beautiful set of dark irises, her long curly hair resting against her calm shoulders and her pink sexy set of lips. She has a strong fashion sense to be precise.

Walking into the hospital, she made her way into her office. The nurse helped Imogen with the dog on an operating table and got her tools ready to treat the dog. She left afterwards.

Changing into a scrub, Imogen packed her hair into a ponytail and slid into some comfortable flip flop. She covered the dog with a surgical cloth exposing the bruises to be operated on as she could hear its breath loudly.

She injected it with a dose and it fell asleep slowly. She cut the bruises open and took out pieces of glass that were stuck in.

"oh! Poor dog, you must have suffered a lot, look at this," she whined.

Stitching him up, she cleaned the surface with some disinfectant and injected him again with another dose. It's breath returned slowly. She put him on a drip and lessened the speed of the drop.

She cleaned up and sterilised her instruments in a liquid sterilizer and covered the dog with a piece of clothing, she fondled it dearly. She changed back into her outfit and reached for her bag.

Silently, she walked out of her office and locked the door carefully, she left to check on other pets.

Forgetting the fact that Catherine was still mad at her.

It was past one in midnight. Imogen dropped by a store on her way home to pick up some groceries.

Everywhere was quiet and eaten by darkness. She mustered up courage as walked down a silent path and stayed alerted with a pepper spray in her hands waiting for an ambush.

She walked as fast as she could to push through the darkness. Although she felt her soul wanting to jump out of her body, at that moment anything could scare her.

Successfully, she escaped the darkness. She panted heavily, feeling relief and protected to see people around, the looming city in front of her felt like another planet embedded in earth. Everywhere was busy and noisy.

After taking her time to be in control of breathe, she made her way to her house.

The city was filled with beautifully designed luxurious houses. Imogen lives in a two-room apartment down the street. It was beautifully well designed and captivating, at least for Imogen she admires the house a lot more than anything, she grew up there with her grandma whom she loved dearly.

Imogen pushed her keys into the lock and twisted it open. Stepping inside, she locked the door behind her and dropped the keys into a box next to the door.

She put off her shoes in a shoe rack, dropped the groceries on the kitchen slab, and went for a shower.

After her shower, she gets into comfortable nightwear and heads for her bed.

Walking towards her bed, she noticed footprints around the room that seemed like an animal invaded her home. She looked up at her window to find out it was open.

A few steps back, she reached for a thick hockey stick. She traced the footprints back to the living room and stylishly switched on the light.

Abruptly, Imogen felt the presence of something strange behind her. She froze in her steps and slowly turned back. she was totally frightened by what she saw, she collapsed immediately.
