Chapter 26

"Laila?".

"She hasn't woken up at all?".

"She stirred when I found her, but since then she's been sleeping like the dead".

"Oh, real appropriate joke, idiot".

"You know what I meant".

I could hear the soft, muffled tones of voices around me, but I couldn't make out anything they were saying. I felt as if I were in a dream. Everything was black and I felt as if I were floating away. Gone was the pain, the fear, the feeling of an unknown future, would I die or would I live?

I was at peace, and I let myself continue to float into the darkness. 

**Two days later**

The warm smell of apple pie enveloped my senses as I began to stir. Before I opened my still sleepy eyes, I took a moment to work out whether I was still dreaming or not.
