I was still muttering colorful words even after I got down from the elevator and made my way to the cafeteria. What was my brain doing when it thought someone as obnoxious as him looked attractive? I really fucked up on that one.

I walked over to the table where I knew Jean was waiting and met him on his phone, as usual.

“Sorry I’m late,” I panted as I pulled out a chair and settled down. “I met a rabid asshole on my way here and we exchanged a bit of words.”

“You really can’t go a day without drama, can you?” he said, shaking his head as he placed some snacks and juice in front of me.

“Thanks,” I muttered as I stabbed the straw into the drink. “But sincerely, it wasn’t my fault this time around, and I mean it.”

I recounted the earlier interaction to him. The moment I was done, he burst out laughing.

“Keep it down, okay?” I glared at him. “I don’t want to answer questions about what got the popular ice prince of the office crackling.”

“I’m sure they would love something this juicy,” he said, a bit quieter now. I shook my head slightly.

“But seriously though,” he added, “who says they’re willing to get on their knees for someone they just met? It’s odd, but it’s original.”

I rolled my eyes and stood up, and he followed suit.

“Is that all you got from my narration, friend?” I asked.

He laughed again. “Frankly, all I see is a handsome weirdo who seems to have fallen for you at first sight and might be your ticket out of celibacy and those weird dreams.”

“It seems you weren’t listening then, because I don’t think I missed the part where I said I hated his guts.”

“Hate turns to love, Aria, so don’t dismiss it just yet,” he said, wiggling his brows as we got to the elevator. “I can ask around for his name if you want me to.”

“Do that,” I smiled. “I need to get a proper apology from him first.”

“He’s probably from a department you hardly interact with,” Jean said calmly. “I’ll ask around—so consider not hating him.”okay??? “ Oh Did you hear we’re getting a new boss?” He asked suddenly changing the topic.

I nodded. “Sadly, my team gets to be the one working personally with him, so I’ll see him later today.”

“Good luck with that,” he said with a smile as he waved and walked away while I took the elevator to my floor.

As I walked over to our spot, I found a cluster of people gathered at the entrance.

“Why are you all gathered here?” I asked as I spotted Agnes at the door.

“Oh! Miss Aria, I was about to call you. The new CEO is here already,” she said, her voice filled with excitement.

“Like… right now?” I asked, eyes widening.

She nodded.

Well, this was earlier than expected, but hey—eye candy is eye candy. Who was I to say no to that?

I slipped through the crowd, making my way to the front, where I was met with Mr. Frank’s face blocking my view.

“Can he move already?” I breathed—and as if he heard me, he stepped aside.

The moment he did, I froze.

No—this was more than freezing. My entire system shut down.

Because tell me why I was face to face with the man. The same elevator man I had a standoff with.

The universe didn’t have to be this cruel, making him my new boss. Time to say goodbye to my job.

The moment my brain registered the danger, I took one step back. Maybe, just maybe he wouldn’t notice me if I blended into the crowd. But the moment I dared to look up again, his eyes locked on mine and he took a step forward, a smirk playing on his lips.

I had been caught.

“I’m very glad to meet you again,” he whispered the moment he got close. “I was almost asking around for you. We will definitely have lots of fun together.”

I almost shivered as his tongue flicked my ear before he pulled back and walked away like nothing happened.

“Oh goodness,” I whispered as I stumbled through the crowd until I was finally back at my seat, where Agnes was already settled.

“He is really hot, isn’t he?” she chirped.

I gave a nervous smile as I tried to place what kind of situation I was in now.

“His name is Conan, and I heard he lived abroad before moving here,” she added, still smiling.

Conan, uhn. What a normal name for a weird person.

If he was this rich, then what was he doing acting like that with me? I let out a breath. What do I do now? Apologize for being rude because I didn’t know he was the CEO? Yeah, definitely not happening. If anything, I still deserved an apology. Especially now that I knew just how messed up he was. How would he treat his employees that way?

I fished out my phone in the next second and shot Jean a text:

News flash: the new CEO is the elevator pervert.

Just when I was about to toss my phone back, Mr. Frank came into view and my frown deepened.

“Do you need me for anything?” I asked as his eyes glared at me. “What did I do now?”

“The new CEO is asking for you,” he said, his frown still deep.

“What??”

“Don’t make me repeat it, okay? Just go see him. I have no idea why he asked for you by name,” he added before walking away with another frown.

I sat there, my thoughts spiraling, before I finally stood up.

What could be the reason for him summoning me? Was this the end for me?

I took a deep breath as I stood outside his office, hand on the door handle.

Here goes nothing, I thought as I pushed the door open and stepped in.

I didn’t know who I was expecting when I heard the door open, maybe Conan or his secretary—but when my eyes landed on Rowan, my mouth fell open. His eyes widened as they landed on us too, and he immediately turned around.“I’m sorry, boss,” he called loudly. “I was only bringing the package you requested.”“And you couldn’t think to knock?” Knight snapped, his voice pulling me back into reality.I immediately stood up from his lap, ignoring his frown as I straightened my clothes.“I did knock,” Rowan said, much softer now. “I guess you were just too occupied to hear me.”A smirk spread across my face just as Knight stood up.“You can turn around now,” he said in a bored tone.Rowan turned back, a tiny smile on his face—and a flower bouquet in his hand.Wait. A flower bouquet?“Sorry for the disturbance once again,” Rowan said with a slight bow before walking over and handing the flowers to Knight, who collected them without a word.“You’re dismissed,” Knight said. “Don’t come up unles

“You’re so down bad,” Jean screamed the moment I stepped foot into his car the next morning.I saw all of this coming when I sent him that text last night, but I didn’t imagine he’d wait a full twelve hours just to vent in my face.“Cut the drama and let’s go,” I said with a laugh as I slipped on my seatbelt. He glared at me but turned on the engine regardless. “How did you make up with him already?” he asked as we pulled out of my front porch. “I literally dropped you here yesterday, so when did you guys even meet?”“He pulled up here like a few minutes after you left,” I said with a chuckle.Jean shook his head slightly. “Now that is commitment,” he said, laughing. “He followed us home after your little parking lot stunt.”I nodded, pouting slightly. “Anyways, we talked. He explained, and we sorted it out like civilized adults,” I said, wiggling my brows.Jean laughed. “Yeah, the same civilized adult that walked away from him like he had some sort of disease.”“I was pissed, okay,”

I still remained in my spot on the couch long after Knight had gone. I didn’t know that a decision that took me over five hours to make would be undone in less than ten minutes. He had a way with words, yes. His eyes felt like some sort of wormhole, pulling me in even when he wasn’t doing much. But ultimately, everything was my decision. And I decided to stick with him—even after telling myself not to. Which meant I was royally fucked. I even suggested a talking stage, so I couldn’t deny how I felt about him anymore. Even the anger I was supposed to be feeling was quenched the moment his lips met mine. Thankfully, I pulled myself together enough not to give in easily. I didn’t even walk him out on purpose, just so he’d know I was serious. If I was really going to do this—if I was going to act on my feelings and on the fact that he felt the same then I had to set standards from the start. I wouldn’t be ignored twice. No man does that to Aria. “I’ve been standing here for close

Knight’s POVI stepped out of Aria’s house with mixed feelings. On one hand, I was relieved I had sorted out the issue. On the other, I wondered if she was still mad at me, seeing as she refused to see me out. I questioned why I was going this far to please her, to make it up to her, and I couldn’t come up with a proper reason. It just felt right to do it. I hated the thought of her saying she was fine staying away from me.I walked back to my car slowly.“Let’s head back home,” I said to Rowan, and he nodded, starting the engine immediately. The ride was quiet as I pondered how our interaction would go forward. She wanted us to talk, to get to know each other—but what was there to know about me? Could I even tell her what my real job was? Where I got my money from? I let out a low chuckle as I thought about how insane all of this was.“Is everything alright, boss?” Rowan asked sharply, watching me through the mirror.“Do I not look alright?” I asked, and he shook his head.“I was jus

“I don’t want you,” I repeated, this time more certain, and I felt Knight’s hands drop from my waist. “What?” he asked, his eyes not leaving mine. “I don’t want you, Knight. Not if you’re going to continue this way—constantly pushing me away and only reaching out when you feel like it. I’m not asking you to date me,” I added sharply. “I don’t think I want to date you yet too, but if you’re slightly interested—which it seems like you are, with all this,” I said, pointing at our position, “then you need to do a lot better for us to even have the slightest chance. I have no issue walking away right now if this is the way you’ll be going forward.” I paused steadying my voice. “No one wants a nonchalant man… no matter how hot he is,” I finished, surprising myself. I never imagined I could say something so cool off the top of my head. Damn—Knight was making me do so many new things. Silence filled the room for a second before he gently slid me off his legs and placed me beside him

I was shocked when my eyes landed on him, but not shocked enough to stop walking. After hearing him pick up that call with Conan, I spent the rest of the workday trying to forget about him, because it seemed like he had done the same. So whatever brought him here was now none of my business. I walked past, heading straight to Jean’s car. “Jean,” I called calmly. “Open the car. Let’s head home.” I waited until he walked over, then slipped inside, forcing myself not to look in his direction. “Are you not going to at least say hi?” Jean asked. I shrugged. “Just drive already.” He turned on the engine, and we moved out of the parking lot without another word. I finally let out a breath when we hit the highway. “That was crazy, even for you, Aria,” Jean said with a chuckle. “You literally walked past him like you had never met before. He must be feeling so disappointed.” I sighed. “He deserved it—and a lot more after ghosting me for days without any valid reason. I was worried lik
