Another chance

CHAPTER 5 Another Chance

POV of Freya

"I love you, Freya."

"Everyone who loves you will abandon you,"

Those words resounded an agonising amount in my head as I sat in the dark dungeon and gazed up at the small window above me. The forest where I had recently passed away at the hands of that cunning young whore was visible outside this window. Who would have guessed that even with the Moon Goddess' assistance, I would resurrect and still experience the same betrayal? Under the watchful eye of the moon goddess herself, he was the one who had persuaded me to accept my role as his chosen mate.

I told him how I felt when I was 18 years old. "Let's split up, Lobo; there is no chance that this will last in the long run." Together, we won't be content." I had indeed stated those same things to him!

Freya: "No, not a chance! The mate bond is garbage! Freya, if I can't marry you, I'll be alone forever. If I can, I'll match you.

I was utterly stunned, unable to say anything other than his name, as I fiercely hugged him and sobbed with joy. I was confident that we would be able to honour our vows to one another for the rest of our lives even though the Moon Goddess had not cursed us for eternity.

What a bunch of crazy stuff.

I embraced myself firmly, attempting to stop myself from remembering all of the good times I had shared with Lobo, but the undesirable thoughts kept flooding my head. I couldn't help but cry in despair since the man's chilly expression at the feast was such a stark contrast to the kind dad in my memories.

"Freya... please don't cry." My wolf kindly conversed with me.

"It's ok, Chloe, don't worry..."

"I'm sorry I failed to protect you."

"Don't say that, and I don't blame you at all." In my response, I made an effort to reassure her that nothing was her fault.

That dumb whore and her treacherous companion were the only ones responsible for all of this nonsense. When I got out of this, I was not going to spare either of them—not that vile little witch or Lobo with his icy indifference.

I wiped the tears from my eyes and got to my feet. As I stopped in place, I immediately smelled the faint perfume of cedar, and all I had to keep me company was the quick hammering of my heart.

What was going on with me? Chloe appeared to be sensing whatever it was that was making my heart race. She was restless and pacing wildly in my mind.

She suddenly screamed enthusiastically in my head. "MATE! MATE!"

What exactly do you mean, mate? Is this a joke of some kind? When I'm trapped here in this embarrassing circumstance, how can you meet your mate?

The throbbing sensation appeared to get stronger and stronger, and the cedar aroma just seemed to get stronger, as if it didn't care about my shame. When I turned to look, a tall, influential figure could be seen outside the cell window. I heard frantic footsteps echoing through the dungeon's halls. His broad, powerful shoulders caught the moonlight, enveloping half of his face in shadow, emphasising his chiselled jawline. A pair of bright golden eyes caught my attention as I looked up.

My racing heart and Chloe's low whine informed me that this man—he was my destined mate—as I glanced up at the nobleman in front of me.

Without thinking, I moved in his direction. The man's hand-stretched through the railing and gently traced the contours of my face with his rough fingers as he stroked my cheek with the palm of his hand. He mumbled, almost reverently, "My mate."

"His wolf... Freya, this man's power is extraordinary!" Chloe shouted enthusiastically.

"I know... even within our pack, such strength is rare!" I responded, equally astounded by the man's appearance as he rushed to get in touch with me.

His warm breath drifted across my ear as he drew in closer, bringing with it the aroma of cedar. I took a step back to prevent doing something utterly out of character because the feel of his skin against mine was making me insane.

He laughed and said, "Don't be afraid, little mate. I am Silas Wilson, Alpha of the Embermoon Pack."

He paused and gave me a severe look with his stunning eyes. "Are you willing to come with me?"

My thoughts were scattered all around. In the space of a few minutes, I went from being cast aside, betrayed, and abandoned to being mated to the most powerful pack in the nation, if not the entire globe!

"I..."

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?!"

Lobo arrived in the hallway, leading a big group of people towards Silas and me before I could even finish my sentence. He was furious.
