*Three days ago*

Rain drizzles heavily outside

My children toys were scattered in the garden. I forgot to pick them up, so I had to run out of the house.

"What are you doing out here in the rain?" I heard a familiar male voice, while picking up the toys at the backyard.

It was Edgar.

He was holding an umbrella, and a coat...who owns that? His girlfriend?

"Here." He gave his umbrella to me, picked up the other toys. "You shouldn't be out here in the rain, Ria."

"I had to pick the toys. Dianne and Derek wouldn't like it when their toys is badly soaked or damaged."

We both stepped into the house together.

"Here." He gave the pink raincoat to me. "I observed this morning that Dianne didn't wear a coat to school, so I bought her one. It will be much better with the umbrella. I hope she likes it."

"Of course Dianne has a coat."

"Please."

I sighed, giving up. "okay. She will be grateful." I hope.

"Are they back from school?"

"In a few minutes till the bus gets here. Care for a cup of tea?" I offered and at that instant, he beamed out a wide smile.

"How could I refuse your delicious tea milady? I can also use the opportunity to wait till the kids arrives."

I nodded. "Okay."

I walked into the kitchen, at that instant, I heard a loud noise from the living room - a chatter.

I ran back to the living room to see Dianne shocked, staring intensively at Edgar, beside her was a chattered vase with the flowers kept in it scattered messily on the floor.

She was looking at Edgar as if she had seen a ghost.

What is happening here?

"Dianne?"

She snapped out of her dilemma, quickly ran to me and hugged me tightly, then did Derek walked in, holding his and Dianne schoolbag.

He stared at the messy floor confused, and back at me wondering what was going on.

"Mom, what happened?"

"Hey hey Derek." Edgar stood up, took him far away from the broken chards scattered messily on the floor. "Let's remain safe here."

"How did that fall?" He pointed at the broken vase. "And why is my sister scared?"

I quickly inspected her body, perhaps she was hurt somewhere. "Dianne, are you okay?"

She was hesitant at first; but she did nodded slowly, her eyes stuck to the floor. "Are you sure?"

She wrapped her small fingers around mine, then nodded slowly. "Edgar, what happened here?!"

"I have no idea, Ria. Earlier on, she walked in happily. And suddenly, she freaked out. I was also surprised for a minute."

"Then what caused the death of our flower vase? It's just an innocent vase, staying right there, without harming anyone." Derek asked, taking the words away from my mouth.

Edgar shook his head. "I also don't know."

I looked at Dianne, perhaps I could get something from her, but nothing.

Something is not right here.

"Derek, why don't you take your sister into the bedroom."

"Sure mummy."

Derek dropped the umbrella, held her sister's hand, taking her the other room.

"Are you sure nothing happened here?" I asked Edgar immediately the kids were out of sight.

"Of course, but she did slam the door against the wall, I guess that was the reason the flower vase fell off. That must have gotten her scared."

He walked up to the back of the door to pick up the broom to clean the mess up.

At that instant, I felt something hard hit my skin. Something disturbing.

I know that feeling...

From five years ago.

I raised my head to look through the window.

'Ria!'

That voice... It sounded like the gentle waves of the ocean, from the inner human human of a wolf.

I have hidden years from them.

Dianne must have felt the same.

"Ria?" Edgar called my name. "Are you okay?"

I nodded my head, smiling back at him. "You look petrified."

"Just a slight headache. It will go away soon." I closed the window.

"You have been under so much stress for a while now. Why don't you rest a bit before you resume work tomorrow."

"You know I cannot do that."

He took away the shards, coming back, "Your health first, miss. You can't go on working so much, and your health showing up a red sign right on your forehead."

"Didn't I just say it's just a slight headache. It will go away if I only use a pill. And besides who will do the house chores if I am down in my room having a nap?"

Edgar sighed, obviously fed up with me. "How stubborn are you, Ria? Look, I will take care of the children. You should just take a lay your back and relax."

"And let Dianne freak out?"

"Yeah, thanks." He mumbled sarcastically.

Sure Dianne doesn't like him. "The fact that she did glare at me like this earlier on," he made that expression Dianne made earlier on. "we should both know that she wouldn't want to see me for the rest of the day."

"Then get married to Mr Edgar!" I heard Derek loud voice from the door.

He stepped out, "We can actually deal with this if you get married to this handsome man over here."

"I am not getting married."

"Normal people would guess you both are dating." He argued.

"How the f..." I quickly held back that language. "How in the world did you know the word dating?"

"Two of my teachers are dating. And mom, this is the Gen Z's era. Even babies should know what dating means. And yes, I like him. So, what's stopping you from having him as your boyfriend, or perhaps get married or something."

"Well, the kid isn't wrong with that."

I glared at Edgar who was grinning from ear to ear.

"You should be with your sister now!"

"She is already asleep mom, don't change the topic."

Dante's pov:Buzzzz!!"I will be visiting later mom. I am at Grandma's" I stepped into the old nursing home in the city. "Later might become days later, Dante. You haven't visited the pack for a while." "Bye mom.""You..." I cut off the call, not ready to listen to her rants."You are finally here, kid." The old woman was wheeled out by a nurse. Her fingers held on to so many rings for her mantra, and her fine outfit, decorated with this so many beads. This old woman should be fed up with this so many heavy rocks she has on her old body. "Of course. How can I not visit the city without visiting you, old woman?" "You motherfucking butt face of a child! You kept your Grandma here without coming over to visit her!" She snapped at me, which attracted a chuckle from the nurse beside her. "Haven't I told you several times not to curse your grandson?" I squatted before her. "You kept yourself here grandma. No one forced you." She swiftly snatched her walking stick from the nurse, and

  • The runaway mate: Alpha's claim    After five years

New York City...*Presently* Five years had passed. Five years of isolation, depressed of being a single mother of my twins— the little monsters the moon goddess gave to me. Five years now, I have no idea about what happened to her, my aunt. I'd be forever grateful to her. Years ago, I saw myself unconscious at a flowing stream alone. My aunt was nowhere to be found; the trucks; the drivers; it seemed as if they never truly existed. It all felt like a dream, but like a dream that came to pass in a painful way. I wandered around New York, pregnant. I slept by the subway for days, spent the little change my I found in my pocket, before I finally applied for a job at a barber's shop, then was I able to have somewhere to rest my head. I found a small apartment right after weeks of rigorous hard work. All I ever do was to go to work, come back home, eat, sleep, and repeat. The day my water broke was at work. I was instantly rushed to the hospital by my boss, my savour, Edgar Powell.

  • The runaway mate: Alpha's claim    An attack

For days, I have been with my aunt and her pup. She had been trying quite many ways to arrange a sneak trip to New York City. She had told me the ways to get there was a very dangerous and stressful journey, but I was ready to take it. "Argh!!" I threw out all the content in my stomach. Since this morning, I haven't been feeling too well. I feel feverish, and most especially loss of appetite. "You are pregnant." I heard a voice behind me. I turned around to see an old woman approach me. "Congratulations, you are pregnant." "I am not pregnant." I quickly declined. "It's only fever. You have got it all wrong, ma'am." "No, you are pregnant, my dear." She still remained persistent. "Um, excuse me. I need to go now." I quickly left. She is saying rubbish. How can I be pregnant? For who?Getting home, I met Aunt Mabel, accompanied by a woman who looked just the same age as her. She was smiling brightly at me, holding a jotter. "You must be Ria. I've heard so much about you from Mabe

  • The runaway mate: Alpha's claim    Leaving the pack

My whole body trembled as I passed down the passageway down the stairs. What did I just see now? No! No!! I covered my mouth trying not to cry, my heart aching so much, that I had to take my hand away from my mouth, held tightly to my chest, feeling so much pain in that cage. My heart aches so much I couldn't take it anymore. "Arghh!!" I collapsed on the floor, the bags I was holding on to fell with me. No one spared me glance as I fell on the floor. The guards around looked away as if nothing had happened. Of course, I was no one to them, just a worthless omega. Why would the moon goddess do this to me?! Why?!! How could she mate me to an Alpha? The Alpha of more than two great territories... I felt my head, my heart, in fact my whole body banging hard. I couldn't just take it."If anything bothers you, would you please do us a favour by leaving the hall? You are causing a ruckus." Someone stood in front of me, obviously chasing me out to make a stop to my public display of unn

  • The runaway mate: Alpha's claim    He is engaged

I got home that night, grinning playfully like a kid. Dante, as he said his name was, promised me to take me out of that shell and tell the world that I am his mate. But I have a little problem. Will he actually tell the world his mate is a weak omega? What if he is a high rank in the council or in the pack? What if his parents don't accept me as his mate? What, then? "Hey, what are you thinking about?" Standing in front of me was my sister. She stood not too far away from me, glaring at me with her arms folded. I quickly shook my head. She still stared at me suspiciously, "You were lost in thought." "It's actually nothing, Jessica. I was just thinking of the stream." I knew better to come up with a lame lie, and I think she bought it. She snickered, unfolded her arms, before muttering, "Pathetic." She walked into the house, and I followed her behind."Jessica, you should get ready soon." Mom said, walking down the stairs slowly. For what? "Yes, mom." Jessica laughed, runnin

  • The runaway mate: Alpha's claim    Mate

Five years ago...I have always rested my head under the thin chambers somewhere behind the store in the luxurious flat owned prestigious family. Everyday I wake up, I would cough up the remaining particles of wolfsbane. There wasn't any time I would wake up from my small home and not get sick, but that doesn't stop them from maltreatment and sending me out to do the works the littlest slaves would do. I was regarded as a slave omega who has no wolf. Every day....I would wish to rest my head somewhere by the rock, close my eyes and die, but unfortunately, death never came. I'd blame the moon goddess for bringing me to this world without parents. The only thing keeping me on my feet was the term 'Mate'. I believed my mate would be the one to take me out of this, so I couldn't wait much longer, I couldn't wait for my mate to come to me and claim me as his own. "Have you cleaned my shoes?" My sister asked me. Of course, she is the expected Luna of the pack. I have always wished she c
