Death by angel

I'm bracing myself as a source of heat draws closer and closer to my body, my wings covering me as well.

I'm suddenly tackled to the side, and I let out a short yelp, flying to the side as a sudden heated blast skims my arm.

I look back to see the whole back side of the hotel destroyed from that attack, my eyes almost out of its sockets. There was no way I would have survived that blast; it caused so much damage, that the building that took the hit instead was already crumbling to pieces.

The angel flapped its wings, its giant eye looking for me. Then the other eyes opened as well, and I could feel my heart stop again as they landed on me.

"Josie, you have to fly now! I need both hands to open a portal out of here!" Loss shouted, as he cursed at the sight of the angel.

I did as I was told, flying next to him as smoke came all around us, covering us from view.
