Learning the Ropes

Elizabeth followed Violet out of the dining room to begin learning about her future as well as her past. Luna Violet could tell Lizzy was nervous and could understand why. Violet knew Elizabeth grew up knowing nothing about the world she was just thrown into, no idea who she was or where she came from or what was happening and would happen to her. She was determined to teach her as much as she could before she stepped down as Luna and Elizabeth steps up. Violet knew Elizabeth was more than capable, I mean she did have beta blood in her. Violet had known Jason for years. Jason is Alpha Evans’ beta and had been since the beginning. She also knew Lily when her and Jason first started out all those years ago. It was just by chance that Jason and Lily ever even met. That was a time before Evan was Alpha or even with her, they were just teens. Jason had just turned eighteen, Evan was sixteen and I was seventeen we all decided to go have some fun at a local college party we just happened to get invited to earlier that day. Violet's thoughts were interrupted but a quiet cough from Elizabeth. “I’m sorry Luna I didn’t mean to interrupt your thoughts.” Elizabeth said sheepishly. Luna Violet looked down at her and smiled ‘No honey it’s fine, I was just thinking of the old days back when Evan, Jason and I all met Lily at that college party” Violet told Elizabeth. Elizabeth looked at her shocked. “You knew my mom, like before she was my mom?” she asked Violet shock still on her face. Laughing Violet said, “Yes honey, we were kids once too, granted it was many moons ago.” Elizabeth looked at Violet with hope in her eyes, “Could you tell me about it?” she asked Violet hopefully. Violet thought about it for a moment and just sighed wondering where to begin. “Let’s go to my office and we’ll talk.” Violet said to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth followed Violet to her office taking in all her surroundings. She could not believe how big this house was, it seemed to go on forever. They finally came to a giant oak door with a name plate “LUNA” on the door right in the center, and right across the hall was another door “ALPHA.” Elizabeth thought it was great that they were able to work so lose to each other. Violet opened the door to her office, and they went inside. The room was huge with giant bay windows with a seating area and wall to wall bookshelves. “Wow” was all Elizabeth could say. Violet laughed, “You like it? Good because one day it will be yours.” Elizabeth was dumbfounded, “What do you mean? This will be mine...but what if I can’t handle being a Luna? I don’t know anything about any of this. I don’t know anything about me or my family or anything, how can I be Luna when I'm so clueless to this world and its laws and traditions?” she began crying from being so overwhelmed. Wrapping Elizabeth in her arms Violet let out a sigh, “oh sweet girl, why do you think we’re here? I am going to teach you everything I know. To start why don’t I tell you the story of how your parents met.” That caught Elizabeths attention. “Let’s have a seat sweetheart.” Violet suggested. So, they each took a seat in the sitting area in front of the bay window, Elizabeth took a moment to look out the window and the view she saw blew her mind. Mountains covered in trees lined the property, she could see a waterfall full of clean blue water pouring down in between two extremely tall mountains and ending in a lake that was lined with little cottages, which she was guessing belonged to the other people of the pack.

“Where should I begin let’s see.... we were young still teenagers, the only one of us that was of age was Jason, your father, but we were all best friends. Well, we were out in the neighboring town walking around and this group of girls saw us walking and invited us to a college party that was happening that night, us being the kids we were decided to go what was the harm. Jasons’ main goal in life at that point was finding his mate, he had been around every female in the pack and couldn’t find the ‘one’ so he thought traveling nearby might turn up new leads. We came back to the pack house and got ready to head out, all of us looking our best of course.” Violet laughed remembering back on the old times. “Your father, Jason, thought he was the biggest stud out there. He wasn’t too far off, most girls in our pack were heart broken when they realized they weren’t his mate and your father wasn't about the dating till I find her life, like some of the other wolves. We headed out to an off-campus sorority house, not really looking for anything but a good time. But, as soon as we walked in the door your father froze. He described it as a ‘trance’. Next thing Evan and I know were chasing after him as he dashes off, later we found out he was tracking her scent, your mothers, his mate. He finally found her and of course she was the most stunning person there, well aside from myself of course.” she giggled. Elizabeth was memorized by the story so much so she didn’t hear the door open or notice her mother standing next to her. Lily smiled looking down at her daughter “mind if I join you girls, I can fill in some blanks.” Elizabeth jumped and Violet laughed, “there's no one better to join us than you.” Violet to Lily sharing a smile.

“So, you left off at when Jason and I first saw each other, it was love at first sight. At least that’s what it was for me, I knew nothing about mate bonds or wolves I was as clueless as you are, and for that Elizabeth I am truly sorry. I thought keeping you away from this life that your more human side would take over and you could have a normal life, I am still learning how a wolf works and if I knew that it didn’t matter if you were half wolf or not that the outcome would have been the same I would of done things differently. But something to keep in mind is that inter-species mating is still a very uncommon thing so no one really knows what a half human half wolf would be in the long run. I have a feeling that no matter what I chose you would of never had a normal life. Living in the human world you were always different because of your wolf, here you would have been different because of your human. And again, I am so sorry.” Lily started crying out of guilt. Elizabeth had no idea what to say so she turned to Violet. Violet spoke up breaking the silence “Lily you did what you thought was best for your daughter and nothing we do can change the past but now we have to prepare her for the future, and part of that and preparing her for the role of Luna is to teach her her past, your past, and you are the best one to do that. That being said, love at first sight, that sounds about right, it is kind of what I felt when Evan and I first met at nine years old. See Elizabeth, Evan and I grew up together and we were always close, but a wolf doesn’t feel the true power of the mate bond till the age of eighteen, and that’s only when both parties are eighteen, so imagine me having to wait a whole year to find out that my mate was my best friend.” Violet said with a smile on her face. Lily smiled too, knowing where Violet's head was. “You see honey, when I first met your father, I felt a connection but could never explain the feeling. Jason could not tell me about wolves until he was sure I was going to stay; I can only imagine the hardship he dealt with when I left. He did finally tell me after we were together for a week, that’s all it took for me to fall in love with him a week. He finally told me what he was and what we were. I was shocked but was never scared, that’s how deep the love was and is to this day. Shortly after he told me everything, I moved in here with him, right into the room were in now. Two years later I found out I was pregnant for you. I wasn’t really sure what to do or what kind of life I wanted you to have. I never told Jason I was pregnant, and he had no idea I was planning to leave, as much as it killed me, I thought it was the right thing to do. But even after eighteen years the feelings never went away and I always longed for him which is why I never dated, never moved on or even tried. I thought about coming back many times, but I knew how the wolves worked. At least I thought I did. I didn’t think I would be welcomed back especially if they found out I was pregnant with their beta baby and ran.” a tear slipped from Lily’s eye. Violet reached over and grabbed Lily’s hand in a sign of comfort. She continued. “I don’t know what happened here after I left so that is as much as I can tell you on my end. You may want to discuss some of this with your dad, when you feel comfortable, he’s afraid to rush anything and is waiting for you to seek him out. But he really does want to get to know you and he loves you.” and with that Lily kissed Elizabeth on the forehead and left the room tears still streaming down her face.

Violet turned her attention back to Elizabeth. “Now Elizabeth, you know how your parents met and how you came to be and why you didn’t grow up in a pack like normal wolves, your mother did what she thought was best and was probably the hardest thing she ever had to do. I know it was hardon your father he almost died when she left, but that isn't my story to tell. I am here to talk to you about the job of a Luna, most people think it’s planning parties and keeping the Alpha happy, and where that is a part of it, it’s only a small part...” Violet looked at her. “Ready to get started?” She asked Elizabeth. “Let’s do this I'm ready.” Elizabeth replied.

After what felt like a century they left the office, just in time for dinner. “Come on let get there before the boys eat all the food.” Violet joked with Elizabeth. The dining room was full by the time they got there all but two seats one next to Evan, for Violet and one next to Brian for Lizzy. Lizzy sat down and as soon as she did Brian leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “I missed you” he told her softly in her ear. “i missed you too, I am so tired, so much information was crammed into my head I don’t know how I am ever going to remember it all. I don’t know if I am going to be cut out to be a Luna, your Luna.” she admitted to not only Brian but herself. He looked at her, really looked at her, and could see the worry of failure in her eyes. He said “Do you know what I see when I look at you? I see a beautiful strong woman who has concurred life and change flawlessly. You moved to a new house with people you had never met before, literally into a wolf den, and never even flinched. You have taken everything thrown at you in stride and spent a whole day with the current Luna of said pack. As her son I can tell you that if she didn’t believe you had it in you to do this, she would not bother wasting her time teaching you. You’ve got this baby and we all see it and believe it, now its your turn.” he said in a tone thaqt made her rethink everything she had thought thus far.
