Chapter 02

🌹Jennie🌹

I went to our shared room, took my thick sweater, and ran out of the house, I don't need to feel so depressed, I believe there will always be a way out.

I got to a busy street and stood looking left and right, front and back, I don't know the exact direction I will go that I will see a three hours shift.

"Let's go this way" I said to myself and took the left direction.

After walking for some minutes, I saw a pizza shop, I remembered I once did a shifting job here, I quickly dash in, and walked up to one of their workers.

"Excuse me miss" I said politely.

"Good evening ma, how may I help you?" she asked.

"Please ma, is there a shifting vacancy here?" I asked.

"Yes, there is, I heard the manager saying they need those that will work for a late hour" she replied.

"Please take me to the manager" I said excitedly.

"You want to work? are you sure you're fit for it" she asked?

"Yes ma'am, I'm extremely fit for any work in as much as I would get paid" I replied.

She scoffed.

"Okay, please follow me" she said and led the way.

I wasn't surprised when she asked if I can work or not?, a lot of people do ask me such questions, they will say I look like a rich kid, my stature is nice, the way I talk, walks, and do my things is unique.

I don't even know if it's true or not, but I remembered Mona once told me the same thing, if not that she testified to it, I won't believe it. And all thanks to Rosa, that always buys new clothes from her money, no matter how little the money she made is, she always makes sure she saves money to buy cloth for us, she knows all those material things are never in my budget.

If our parents are rich a little I'm sure Rosa will always be slaying inexpensive dresses, but that's we so sooner we accept the better for us.

"Can you do this work?" the manager asked me.

"Yes sir, I can" I replied.

"Okay then, give her a uniform and take her to where she will work" the manager said to the lady.

"Okay sir" she said and took me to where I will work.

I work nonstop for three hours, it's past 11 pm now, I went to meet the manager for my pay, he gave me 300won, I was happy because my siblings won't starve.

"You did great work I don't know you can be as perfect as that" he commended me smiling.

"Thanks so much, sir" I replied and fake a smile.

"Can you be doing full-time work here?" he asked.

"No sir, I have a lot of things I'm always attending to" I said.

"Ohh! Okay, are a high school student?" he asked.

"Yes sir" I lied.

"That's good, no wonder you look unique, can you be coming here every night then, maybe you will work from 8:30 pm till 10:30 pm" he said.

That will be so great.

"Yes sir, I will start tomorrow" I said.

"Okay I will be expecting you, don't take lonely roads home, it's risky for you" he said and I bowed a little for him before going out of his office.

I went to a supermarket near the pizza shop, and buy some foods, I got some candies, biscuit, and some energizer juice for my sibling, I got tampons in case, I remember mum complained of body pain, I got her a pain relief drug, and went to the cashier to pay after she calculated everything, I have nothing less than 20wons with me.

Anyway, I'm happy I'm the reason my family will not starve.

I walked home as fast as I can, because of the cold weather, I got to the bedroom I shared with my siblings and met them awake, mum and dad were asleep.

"Why are you not sleeping? it's late already, won't you go to school tomorrow?" I scolded them.

Immediately they heard my voice, they ran to me and hug me one after the other.

"We're waiting for you to arrive before we will sleep" my six years old brother said.

"You shouldn't have a wait, you know you're going to school tomorrow," I said and caress his hair.

"Rosa, let's take these foods to the kitchen" Jin, my thirteen years old brother said.

They both went to the kitchen and came back with the nylon of goodies.

Rosa gave the kids two candies each and kept the remaining for them, Rosa, Jin, and I don't eat any of the goodies, we're matured enough to understand the situation of things.

After the kids finished their candies, I pat them to sleep and went to lay on the space left for me.

"I saw a pain relief drug in what you brought, why ain't you taking it?" Rosa asked.

"It's not for me, I bought it for me and she's asleep already, she will take it tomorrow" I replied.

"Jennie" Rosa called.

"I'm here with you" I replied.

"Promise me you won't die and leave me alone to myself" she said and I gasped.

"What are you saying?, Rosa" I asked.

"I'm just worried about you, why won't you care about yourself, your work is more stressful than our parent's, I've never seen you buy pain relief for yourself and you always buy for our parent, I told you to eat before you left yours ago, you didn't, I'm sure you haven't had anything till now, if not that I forced you to always eat before you leave the house in the morning, you won't eat". 

"I mean why are starving yourself? why can't you just enjoy the best you can out of life? where did you work and how much did you collect?" she asked.

"I work in a pizza shop, I collected 300wons and I spent 280wons on what I bought" I replied.

"Don't worry, I won't die, I will live for you and our four Junior siblings, I can't be watching my parent in pain when I know I can help, though they couldn't give us anything expensive but the most important thing is that they give us life, I'm happy I could help because if it's my parent that is working so hard like this I won't be happy" I added and pulled her close, I made her rest her head on my chest.

"I will be safe, okay?, you know I love you all and I can't imagine my life without you all" I said caressing her hair.

"Jennie can put me to sleep too?" Jin asked and I chuckle, he's always jealous.

"Okay honey, I'm coming" I said and I heard him grinned.

🌹The Next Morning🌹

🌹Somewhere in Jeju🌹

I woke up to the continuous ringing of my alarm. 

Argh! It's morning again, I  have to go to school, today is gonna be busy because we have a board meeting today, I hate this rich lifestyle, I don't like poor lifestyle either but I prefer being in the average status, not too poor and not too rich.

Attending the board meeting.

Going to different dinner parties.

Travelling for meetings overseas to represent my mum.

 I'm in charge of paying all my mum's staff both oversea and here in Korea, my mum has more than six companies, and I'm the heir to all her properties.

I'm just 20 years old, I wonder how my life will be after high school, I will graduate after two years, my mum said I won't go to college instead I will get a private tutor.

"Austin, this is your fate, just take to it and stop complaining," I said to myself and stood up from the bed sluggishly.

My little smile turns to a frown when I see my mum's wedding picture, I put in a frame and hung in my room.

No one knows where my dad is, my mum said he's also a rich man, he's rich on his own, likewise my mum too, they both gave their money, he isn't dead, neither was he kidnapped, he just abandoned my mum when I was an infant, I wish I could meet him and ask him why he abandoned us, but mum always get flared up anytime I asked of him, I hope he comes for me one day.

🌹Hours later 🌹

We're at the middle of the meeting now, we've discussed how the students are performing, how they're treating the bully case, though this is a school for the rich we still make sure those on scholarship aren't treated badly.

We shouldn't make them blame themselves for being poor.

"So, sirs our examination is near, we think this is the right time to give out scholarships" the principal said.

"Yes that's true and anyone that passed the upcoming exam will resume with us next semester" Drake said, and everyone agrees.

"What do you see to it? Austin" Louis asked.

I think it's the high time I take that picture out of my room, it always makes me feel bad.

"Yeah, sure it's good" I said.

"So, start working on it" Tan said and we all stood up, we exchange handshakes with the staffs before going out.

I'm free again.

We took the elevator to our private class, immediately we entered, I remove my jacket and sat on my chair.

"Bro, I thought you said you're not coming to school today" Mike asked Drake.

"And you also promise to pay me a visit, why don't I see you?" he replied teasingly and they started throwing jokes at each other.

🌹Back to Seoul🌹

🌹Later in the night🌹

🌹Rosa

We all sat around the table having our dinner, Jennie is also with us, she hasn't gone for her night shift at the pizza shop.

The table was silent because Jennie is with us, she always makes sure we maintain a table manner.

"Jennie, say Ah" our six years old brother said and raised a spoon full of rice and uses his chopsticks to take a piece of roasted pork.

I smiled proudly as he does this, I'm happy because we all love and appreciate Jennie for her effort on us.

It was as if the little kiddo gave all of us a go-ahead.

"Jennie, say Ahh" we all said together and she burst into laughter.

Wow! Does she laugh?.

It's been a while she laughs, even her smile is always faked.

After laughing for a while, she started collecting the food from us one after the other.

"Thanks so much for the love, I appreciate" she said and we all laugh.

Mum and dad sat looking at us.

"Jennie" Dad called.

"Yes dad" she answered with a smile.

"You look great with the children feeding for you" he said.

My smile turned to a frown because I know where he's going.

"Haven't you seen anyone yet?" mum asked.

"Anyone?" Jennie asked.

"Yes, you're 18 years already, you should look for someone to marry, and you're beautiful, look for a rich man you will marry so that you'll take the full responsibilities of your younger ones" dad said and she choked on her food.

What's all these again for crying out loud.
