The dawn arrived not with gentle sunlight, but with a suffocating gray mist that rolled over the obsidian towers of the Golden Pack’s keep. From my high chamber window, I watched five distinct banners fluttering against the cold mountain wind. The crests of the territories: the Golden Lion, the Frost Wolf, the Shadow Raven, the Blood Crimson Snake, and the Earth Bear.

Five packs. Five Alpha leaders. Five men who had stood around my dying body as my blood pooled into the ancient stone altar.

I pressed my hand against the cold glass, my knuckles turning white. My chest still throbbed with a phantom ache where Alexander’s blade had pierced me in my past life, but the physical pain in my abdomen was very real.

The Black Soul Curse was expanding.

It felt like a nest of thorned vines twisting slowly inside my lower belly, sending tiny needles of black fire crawling through my veins. Without the balancing magic of the five elemental Alphas, the curse would slowly erode my mind until I became the unhinged, violent monster they were forced to slaughter.

I cannot let them see my weakness, I reminded myself, forcing my posture straight. And I cannot rush into seduction. If I act like a desperate temptress, they will suspect I am a witch using blood magic to bind them. I must play the strategic Luna—fragile enough to seek their protection, but sharp enough to command their respect.

A soft knock sounded at the door, followed immediately by the click of the iron latch. I turned around, taking a slow, deep breath to steady my racing pulse.

Alexander stepped into the room, dressed in heavy black armor lined with gold trim. Beside him walked a man shrouded in a high-collared fur coat, his midnight-black hair falling slightly over piercing, icy-gray eyes.

Gabriel. Alpha of the Shadow Pack. The dark strategist.

My breath hitched in my throat. Memory surged back with brutal clarity—Gabriel standing over me on the altar, his dark shadow-bindings wrapped around my throat so tightly that my lungs burned for air while Alexander drove the sword down.

Instinctively, my hand flew to my neck. My feet backed away a fraction of an inch before I caught myself, pinning my soles firmly to the stone floor.

Gabriel’s sharp gray eyes immediately tracked my movement. He stopped dead in his tracks, his gaze dropping to my throat, then rising to lock with mine. A quiet, calculated gleam flickered in his dark irises.

"You startle easily, Luna Evelyn," Gabriel said, his voice a low, smooth baritone that felt like velvet laced with frost. He took a deliberate step forward, his boots making no sound against the rug. "Or perhaps my presence simply displeases you?"

"Gabriel," Alexander warned softly, placing a heavy, armored hand on his fellow Alpha’s shoulder. "She is exhausted from the ceremonial journey."

"Is she?" Gabriel’s gaze remained fixed on my face, analyzing every subtle twitch of my features. "She looks less exhausted and more... terrified. As if she is looking at a ghost. Or an executioner."

A cold sweat broke out across my back. Gabriel was always the most dangerous of the five—he didn't lead with brute force like Alexander or wild instinct like Silas; he read people like open books, dissecting their smallest micro-expressions.

"I am merely unaccustomed to having gentlemen enter my bedchamber unannounced, Alpha Gabriel," I replied, forcing my voice to sound cool, dignified, and slightly offended. I smoothed down the heavy silk fabric of my silver gown. "In the Northern Reaches, courtesy dictates a lord waits for a lady's permission."

Gabriel tilted his head, a slow, dangerous smile curving his lips. "A fair point. But this is not the North. This is the Unification Citadel. And as of yesterday's treaty, your safety—and your loyalty—is the joint responsibility of all five packs."

He stepped closer, bypassing Alexander. The room’s temperature seemed to drop instantly. Gabriel wielded the elements of Shadow and Frost; his very presence drew the heat out of the air.

As he closed the distance between us, the Black Soul Curse inside my womb reacted violently to his frost element. The burning, thorned sensation in my abdomen suddenly clashed with the icy aura radiating from Gabriel, sending a sharp, agonizing shockwave straight up my spine.

I couldn't suppress it. A gasp escaped my lips, and my knees buckled.

"Evelyn!" Alexander moved instinctively, stepping forward to catch me, but Gabriel was closer.

Gabriel reached out, his long, gloved fingers catching my upper arm to steady me.

The moment his skin—even through the leather of his glove—made contact with me, an electric jolt of cold magic flooded my system. The icy sensation raced through my bloodstream, colliding with the fiery venom of the curse. The agonizing cramp in my core instantly numbed into a manageable, dull ache.

My body gasped for that relief. Without thinking, my hand reflexively gripped Gabriel’s forearm, clinging to his touch like a drowning person reaching for a lifeline.

Gabriel froze. His gray eyes widened slightly as he felt the intense, unnatural heat vibrating beneath my skin. His grip on my arm tightened, his thumb pressing against the pulse point on my wrist.

"Your skin is burning," Gabriel murmured, his tone shifting from cold mockery to intense scrutiny. "Your heart is racing at an impossible speed, Luna. You are not just nervous. Your core is unstable."

"I am fine," I gasped out, trying to pull back, but his hold was iron-clad.

"She has been pale since last night, Gabriel," Alexander interjected, his brows furrowing deep with concern as he stepped up beside us. He reached out and placed his bare hand against the side of my neck, testing my temperature.

The moment Alexander’s palm touched my skin, his pure Fire element washed over me from the right, while Gabriel’s Frost element held me from the left.

The two opposing elements—Fire and Frost—entered my body simultaneously. Inside my womb, the Black Soul Curse hissed like cold water dropped into hot oil. The writhing vines of dark energy recoiled, temporarily neutralized by the dual elemental pressure. A wave of profound, intoxicating relief washed through my entire body, causing my eyelids to flutter shut.

I let out a soft, involuntary sigh, leaning slightly into the opposing temperatures. For the first time in hours, the suffocating agony inside me ceased completely.

Alexander and Gabriel both went rigid.

They looked at each other over my head, a complex dynamic of rivalry, suspicion, and strange tension crackling between them.

"What is this?" Gabriel whispered, his dark eyes narrowing as he felt his own frost magic being pulled into my body, as if my core was actively drinking it in. "She is absorbing our elemental aura."

"She is the Luna of the Five Packs," Alexander said, though his voice sounded strained, his thumb lingering on the soft skin of my jawline. "The ancient texts said the Luna's body naturally seeks balance from the Alphas."

"This isn't balance, Alexander. This is a siphon," Gabriel countered coldly, though he did not pull his hand away. He leaned down, his face mere inches from mine, his icy breath brushing against my cheek. "What are you hiding from us, Evelyn? What is wrong with your blood?"

I opened my eyes, looking directly into Gabriel’s cold, analytical gaze. The trauma of my past death still whispered in the back of my mind, but the physical relief granted by their combined presence gave me the clarity I needed to play my card.

"If you suspect me of harboring poison or deceit, Alpha Gabriel..." I rasped, letting my voice drop into a soft, vulnerable whisper while maintaining eye contact. "...then draw your blade and finish what your suspicion demands. But if I am to be your Luna, do not treat me like a prisoner in my own chambers."

Gabriel stared at me, his gray eyes searching my face for any sign of a lie. The silence in the room grew heavy, thick with unspoken politics, latent desire, and deadly stakes.

Finally, Gabriel slowly released his grip on my arm, stepping back into the shadows of the room. Alexander reluctantly withdrew his hand from my neck, though his golden eyes remained locked on mine, filled with an unreadable warmth.

"The council convenes in an hour," Gabriel said smoothly, adjusting his fur coat as if nothing had happened. "The remaining three Alphas have crossed the river gates. Prepare yourself, Evelyn. Silas and Lucius are not known for their patience... and Kaelen will see through any mask you wear."

With a final, lingering look, Gabriel turned and swept out of the room.

Alexander remained for a moment longer. He looked at me, his jaw clenching tightly. "Get dressed in your formal robes, Evelyn," he said softly. "Today, we show the five territories that the alliance cannot be broken."

As Alexander stepped out and closed the heavy door, I collapsed into the chair beside my vanity, clutching my chest. My plan was working, but the tightrope I was walking was razor-thin. I had survived Alexander and Gabriel for now. But three more apex predators were arriving at the castle gates and the Black Soul Curse inside me was only hungrier for the rest of their elements.

The hall smelled of scorched fat, spilled ale, and the sharp bite of stale sweat coming off fifty drunk guardsmen at the lower tables. The iron braziers along the stone walls spat grease into the air, casting jittery orange light over the long wooden trestles where men shouted over wooden tankards and gnawed on mutton ribs.On the raised dais, nobody was shouting.I sat between Alexander and Gabriel, my posture stiff enough to make my lower back ache. The silver fabric of my gown clung to my skin, damp with a cold, unnatural sweat that wouldn't dry. On the pewter plate before me lay a wedge of roasted venison; its fat had already cooled into a dull, gray skin. I couldn't bring myself to touch it.Underneath my ribs, the sickness was twisting again. The temporary relief I had scraped together during the morning council had worn off hours ago. Without a steady, close pulse of elemental magic, the dark mark deep in my belly felt like a pocket of embers, radiating hot needles down the ins

The council hall of the Unification Citadel smelled of damp oak, cheap tallow, and the cold sweat of a dozen guards standing post outside. Inside, a ten-meter black stone table bisected the room. Faded sunlight filtered through dusty stained glass, casting bruised shades of red and blue across the granite floor. My steps felt heavy as I descended the winding staircase. The silver gown rustled softly against the stone, catching briefly on the aged, warped wooden treads. There was no music, no velvet runner. Just the scrape of my hem and the rhythmic click of my heels echoing through the quiet space.Memories from my past life hit me like a sudden draft. Two years ago, in this very room, they hadn't offered me a chair. I had stood at the far end like an accused criminal while they passed parchment drafts back and forth, deciding which territories would bleed to hold the border. It was here they first stopped looking at me as a Luna and started treating me as an infection. Now, five men

The cold edge of a silver blade pressed against my throat, slick with my own blood."Look at me, Evelyn," a voice commanded—a voice that used to whisper vows of forever into the crook of my neck.I forced my eyes open, my vision swimming in crimson. Alexander stood over me, his golden hair dusted with ash, his red-gold eyes cold and devoid of the burning passion they once held. Behind him, the ruins of the Red Moon Altar stretched into the fog, smelling of sulfur, scorched earth, and genocide. My breath caught in my throat, coming in ragged, shallow wheezes. A deep gash across my ribs burned like liquid fire. I wasn't dead yet, but the blood pooling beneath my back told me I didn't have minutes left."Why?" I rasped, the word tearing at my dry, iron-tasted throat."You brought corruption to the Five Packs," Alexander said softly, though his knuckles turned white against the hilt of his broadsword. "The madness in your blood was destroying everything we swore to protect. We had no choi
