Only those who spread treachery, fire and death out of hatered for the prosperity of others are undeserving of pity.

Part 1: The world that lays beyond

"Here you go! "Dhara presented her the 16 special sweet dishes that had been solely prepared to offer God because of tonight's special occasion.

But her petline cheeks were now fallen, glow from the godess like face gone. What with the way the prince was looking at her, his deep piercing hazel orbs gazing at her every moment she had been in his vicinity.

Her skin had been prickly under the scrutiny. But above that all what troubled her were her own thoughts.

She wanted to get away from that constant gaze as soon as possible today afternoon. Yet the pitful irony that she was there today as his soon to be bride. His bride!

Now the hundred pie question was if she isn't able to tolerate his gaze from ten feet away for a afternoon when hundred other guests are present, how is she supposed to tolerate his touch, the same gaze and the same presence for the rest of her life?

"Ooo..."someone squeaked. "Lost in the thoughts of your prince? "And loud laughter filled the room. It did not take much time there after for the conversation to catch fire.

Prince Amerendra being the prime topic for the rest of the evening but the voice raising its hood inside Devika stayed loudest of them all.

"Hail prince Chandra, hail the kingdom of Maniteek!"cheers rang along with the voices as the prince completed his walk of grace.

Right from when he had dismounted his horse outside the palace a few moments ago, the congratulations and words of appreciation had came flowing in, from everyone. But he hadn't paid attention because for all he knew all those good words were nothing but a way to butter the prince of this powerful kingdom that he was.

If he wanted appreciation, and words of praise for all he did. He wanted it coming from the king and no one else.

So here he stood in front of his grim father, the king of maniteek. His head held high, for he knew his father could not escape this situation now and if anything he had to atleast say a single word in his praise today even if only for the sake of the full attendance of courtiers today around them.

"I heard you won over the ghahanies? "He raised an unimpressed eyebrow and Chandra felt his blood starting to boil. "Impressive!" And that was all the king said before he was gone towards the royal chambers in the eastern wing of the palace.

"The court is adjourned! "The announcer outside hollered and the loud royal court slowly came to a complete silence. When the back-talks came to an end. When the boisterous treacherous courtiers had left.

He burned with fury and his body beared testimony to that as it shook in outrage. Infuriation over his father, hatred over the insensible society and most of all his vexation over himself!

The jaws that were covered in thick bushes of unruly beard because of practically living in wilderness for the last two weeks clamped over each other.

His large calloused hands that had barely left his swords throughout the weeks now itched to snap a neck in two. Specifically the neck of his father or elder brother.

He had left the comforts of the palace, to fight a war for his father, a war that they were bound to loose was suddenly the reason for their victory!

How? Because of HIM! His damn life that he had very casually put into danger so that he could make his father proud of him. For once.

But it all became futile. Didn't it? Sleeping on wet grass for nights on end with his hand as pillow and aching wounds as companions had earned him this! Hadn't it?

A mere 'impressive!'from the king's part that was more a taunt than praise.

He was pretty sure, his prim and proper elder brother must be now celebrating his own victory.

Now that he had lost once again!

~♡~♡~

"Good evening prince Chandra! "The sweet sultry voice snapped him out of his vulnerable thoughts of being a simple pawn under his father for all these years.

His hands putting down the warm drink on the table as he gazed at the diva that sat in front of him right now.

The twenty years old exceptionally beautiful princess who was currently smiling at him lucidly.

Her dark mysterious eyes playing hide and seek under the thickness of her lashes while his own eyes envied the inanimate furnitures of the room that now held her gaze.

"Congratulations on your victory! "She finally looked into his eyes. The sultry gaze flitting back on her face. "Would you mind if I join you for a drink, there's something we need to talk about. "

And darn the world..... why would he mind?

"Of course not! It would be all my pleasure! "He reapprociated with a equally flirty smile to the sister of his youngest step mother.

"So do enlighten me about what you wanted to talk about? "He folded his arms on his chest. This seemed interesting!

"It's about your elder brother! "The foreign princess spoke with such ease as though she was speaking of the weather but she had hit a wrong nerve. Chandra's smile was gone!

"He's planing something against you! I heard him! "

"Oh really? Well that's not really very surprising but why are you telling me this? "He scrutinized the flawless innocent face.

"Because...because...I-I..."suddenly the ease within her was gone.

"Because I care about you! "

There was a long silence in the room thereafter rest the laboured breathing of the two occupants.

"Oh really? "Prince Chandra was no more sitting on the chaise instead he was standing right beside the foreign beauty in his private chamber. "And why exactly do you care about me?"his words were wishpers now breathing down her neck. While his hands had found a permanent place at the small of her soft waist.

"I-I can't tell you that! "The princress' s face tainted pink as she bit her lip but did not act to reject his touch.

'Because she wants it too!'

A smile settled on his face. "Why not?"He wishpered into her ears as he took the final test. His hard body pressed against her petite form, when he bent down to claim the pet like lips.

'Indeed!'he smiled through the kiss. ' She wants this!'

And there after his hands knew no bounds as it moved on it's own. On every curve and counter it touched and caressed while only he knew, how eager he was to christen the bed tonight.

Thirst of power and of riches now bear sway, the passion and infirmity of age.-James Anthony Froude7 weeks laterPeople say that there's just this small slit between life and death, perhaps a wide enough berth between happiness and despair but hope and an anguishing state of hopelessness seems two different worlds far beyond the reach of one another. And in seven weeks time Roopak had not only understood but experienced the vast difference between these two worlds. Seven weeks ago he stood at the same spot outside this same courtroom with his heart beating like a wild horse while his mind raced through options to save his brother. And seven weeks later now, here he was, standing on the same spot before the courtroom, his heart yet again racing while he watched the embellished adorning of the palace walls while his brother stood beside him and grinned. He grinned back, it was his crowning ceremony after all!The crackers whizzed past him, burst and cracked in the evening sky and the

All pain is punishment and every punishment is inflicted for love as much as for justice. -Joseph De Maistre"Arrest him!"There was no necessity to repeat the command. The very loyal lords and soldiers of the former king marched forward with blood in their eyes and nothing or nobody was able to stop them. He was lead away with a hundred blades at his throat through the darkest corridors and tunnels of the palace and thrown into a muddy underground dunge

Her voice sounded hoarse as she entered, her body trembling with anxiety as she looked at the man in front of her. • Thirst of power    Chapter 25

"At last!" Sneered the king. "At last." Sniggered the courtiers as the queen stopped right in front of the thrown. "Where's your sister? Wasn't my message clear enough, that I want both of you here?" Sunayna stayed silent, not daring to speak let alone to put forth the fact that it was she who had told her sister to not to show up in court, that she could handle and maneuver it on her own. 'And she will!' "Send someone to fetch her now and if she dare show any resistance drag her here by her hair, it is an order!" Sunayna's heart skept some beats and some more thereafter as the guard left to follow up the order. 'No!' She wanted to scream but if anything it would make her situation even worse, so downing yet another bitter pill tonight she tried a gentler approach instead. "My Lord!" She finally spoke. "If I may..." But none listened. The silence prevailed, getting thicker with every passing moment so much so that it became a tangible presence amongst them. Devika didn't say a

  • Thirst of power    Chapter 24

A small shiver ran down her spine in the fear of unknown, the warm night seemingly turning frost with every moment that passed. Never had she felt this alarmed of stillness. The seemingly endless stretch of placid tranquility stifled her senses and the cold air of garden felt tempting. 'But it isn't the time for that.' With this untimely arrival of Chandra all her plans and strategies hence fell down and crumpled like a palace of cards as a result leaving her open in vulnerability. Moving in the darkness, she gripped the handle of water jug from her bedstead, treating herself with a massive gulp of water. 'Yes, she had lied but it wasn't as simple as that, was it? She had lied right in front of the whole court and that meant just one thing, a crime against the throne. ' And after all that, her purpose still as unaccomplished as it had always been. Her ears strained to listen to the in growing sound of foot steps towards her chamber and for a moment she stopped breathing. '
