Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
No wonder Catherine was in such a hurry to contact Seth despite her original disdain toward well-educated intellectuals in the previous life.

I soon recalled my previous life. As a military spouse, I was able to join the military encampment as well.

My father's old comrade took me in as his goddaughter the moment he saw me. He also took good care of Seth in every way possible. Just like that, Seth was able to rise through the ranks and become the youngest major general in history.

Seth's parents thought I brought good luck to Seth. They didn't look down on me because of my background as a country bumpkin. Instead, they were very nice to me.

Although Seth was very cold to me, I still thought of myself as a lucky woman. Only before my death did I realize I was very, very wrong.

When Catherine noticed how dazed I was, she walked away smugly.

A short while later, my mother opened the door. She told me the wedding preparations were done and that I would be marrying Nathan Prescott the day after tomorrow.

I was a little surprised, to say the least. To think that Nathan actually agreed to marry me.

Everyone knew him as a poor guy who was rather aloof. No one wanted to speak with him at all.

In my previous life, I happened to overhear someone claiming that Nathan had offended a powerful figure some time after my marriage. He was taken away, only to never return to the village ever again.

But my sixth sense told me the truth was completely different from the gossipmongers' version.

In my previous life, I accidentally stumbled upon a scene where a few hooligans were bullying and humiliating Nathan. But they ended up being taught a lesson instead.

At that time, I had a feeling that Nathan wasn't that much of a pushover.

It was not until I followed Seth into the military encampment as his spouse that I observed something new. When Nathan had demonstrated his brutal and expert moves, he resembled more of a soldier.

In any case, Nathan had agreed to marry me. I no longer had to marry Seth in this lifetime.

Early in the next morning, I headed over to the tailor's shop to pick up the clothes I had ordered. For my upcoming wedding, I had specifically requested a famous tailor in town to sew me a wedding dress.

I hung the wedding dress in my room. Satisfied, I proceeded to make preparations for my wedding.

But when I returned home that afternoon, I heard Catherine's sweet voice drifting from the woods behind my house.

"Oh, Seth! Be gentler, now! If you were to tear this dress, Callista wouldn't have anything else to wear to the wedding!"

Seth's voice, which had always been serious and reverent, was laced with a hint of lust.

"So what if I end up tearing the dress? You look so much more enticing in it compared to her!"

I rushed toward the woods, still in a state of disbelief. The white wedding gown clung to Catherine's frame. There were still pieces of torn fabric lying on the ground.

At the moment, Seth was in the middle of tucking a flower behind Catherine's ear.

I lunged at Catherine like a madwoman. "This is my wedding dress! How dare you wear it without my permission! And worse, you even ruined it!"

Catherine collapsed to the ground after getting shoved like the fragile maiden she was. She began crying out of fear.

Seth pushed me away before wrapping an arm around the feeble-looking Catherine. He roared furiously at me, "That's enough, Callista Parker! This wedding dress is meant for my viewing pleasure anyway!

"What's wrong with Catherine trying on the dress? This wedding dress' design is extremely common! Must you get so hung up on it? If you keep making this a big deal, you can forget about marrying me!"

I retorted angrily, "What makes you think this dress is meant for your viewing pleasure? I'm wearing this dress when I'm marrying Nathan later!"

Seth frowned upon hearing Nathan's name. But he soon mocked me loudly.

"Wow, Callista! You even learned how to lie! Everyone here knows that you're bent on marrying me! Nathan? Pssh! That poor loser isn't even worth being compared to me!

"I've already agreed to show up at the wedding with you, Callista! You're just making things worse for yourself if you keep throwing that tantrum of yours!"

Catherine went along with Seth. "That's right, Callista! Seth just wants to see the dress you'll be wearing tomorrow. Why must you piss him off by involving other men in this conversation?"

She moved to grab me by the arm before continuing to give me advice. "Callista, don't get mad at Seth because of me."

But she soon lowered her tone and murmured into my ear provocatively, "Callista, a hopeless woman with a ruined reputation like you makes a great match with Nathan the loser. I'll have you know that I'm destined to be Seth's wife in this lifetime."

A gust of wind blew past us at that moment. The pollen coated on Catherine's ear was scattered all over the tip of my nose.

Damn it! Catherine knew that I was allergic to pollen!

My breathing began intensifying rapidly. But Catherine chose to shriek while collapsing backward.

Seth quickly pulled Catherine into his arms, his heart already throbbing in pain for her. He hollered at me angrily, "How could you be this vile, Callista? To think that you'd hurt Catherine over something so petty! If she's injured in any way, I will never let you off the hook!"

As soon as his words fell, he outright ignored my condition. At the moment, my cheeks were extremely flushed due to my asphyxiation. Instead, he scooped Catherine into his arms and left the woods hurriedly.

Meanwhile, Catherine flashed me a provocative smile over Seth's shoulder.

Although Seth was immobilized, he was still determined to crawl in my direction."Callista, I was wrong! Please don't marry someone else! I'll change my ways! Really, I'll do it!"My mother couldn't stomach Seth's words anymore. She didn't hesitate to deliver a heavy slap across Seth's face on the spot."Haven't you bullied my poor Callista enough? What sort of nefarious scheme do you have in mind for you to cause chaos on her big day? "Haven't you trampled all over Callista's pride enough? Not only did you order her around constantly, but you also made her do your laundry during winter! What's worse is that you even humiliated her in front of everyone else!"Did you seriously think that I'd be nice to you if not for the fact that my daughter had a crush on you?"When my mother brought up the ordeals that I was forced to endure in the past, her eyes reddened instantly. I was her precious daughter. Even though the villagers kept pestering my mother to give birth to a son in ord

I could only gaze at Nathan helplessly. But he just passed the paper bag he was carrying to me instead."Hmm?"I accepted the bag before peeking into it. It was a white wedding dress. The moment I laid my eyes on it, I was shell-shocked."Why did you—""I saw it in Shell City. As soon as I spotted it, I knew that it suited you right away. Go change into it. You'll be the most stunning bride today."After that, Nathan pushed me into my room and urged me to wear the wedding dress. As I gazed at my unfamiliar reflection in the mirror, I felt a little dazed. This dress was a lot fancier than the one I had ordered from the tailor.I looked at myself from all angles. Clothes could really elevate a person's appearance. Even I looked beautiful in such a nice dress. As soon as I exited my room, Nathan smiled at me instantly. He praised me sincerely, "You look absolutely stunning!"Then, he opened the car door and helped me into the car. With a heavy heart, I followed Nathan to Crown R

But Nathan's bangle made me feel inferior. I didn't think I could ever present him with the watch I bought for him.I was carrying the box at first, but now I have hidden it behind my back. Still, Nathan spotted my panicked action. A knowing smile soon traced his lips. His baritone—deep and pleasant to the ear—drifted into my ear, but his words made me blush furiously."Is this a wedding gift that you've prepared for me, Callista?"I lacked the courage to look into his eyes, so I nodded demurely.Nathan chuckled softly before extending a hand to me. "Please put it on for me, Callista."I knew that Seth and his friends were watching my every move. Without hesitating, I presented the watch that I had spent a long time picking out at the department store. The moment my cold fingertips made contact with Nathan's warm skin, I could feel a surge of heat passing through me. For some reason, that heat strummed a tender heartstring from within. The length of the watch's straps surprisi

Loud, deep rumbling noises soon boomed from the exterior of my courtyard. The noises instantly attracted everyone's attention. They could see nine cars being parked outside my house. Almost immediately, the originally boisterous atmosphere became eerily silent. When Nathan's men moved brand-new electrical appliances such as a fridge, television, and washing machine—which were still tied up in red ribbons—into the courtyard, someone gasped out loud. The silence was instantly broken."Is… Is that a television?"People who were more well-versed in technology were quick to educate others about the appliances. These appliances were the three major wedding gifts prepared by the city folk. On the other hand, the villagers still thought of bicycles, watches, and sewing machines as the three major gifts needed in a wedding. If the groom could fork out enough cash for a bicycle, his financial situation was considered to be very decent. Since Nathan provided my family with a fridge, a tele

I didn't want to give Nathan the impression that I didn't care about the wedding at all.As soon as I reached the front door of my house, I could hear Catherine's breathy moans. Through the window, I could see her looking very dazed and euphoric. Seth assumed the top position and continued to thrust away without a care in the world.Although I alre
