MELANIE'S POINT OF VIEW
I sigh in relief as I sat on one of the chairs in the company cafeteria and dropped my tray of food on the table.
I'm so tired already and it's just minutes past eight.
Dexter's master plan meant he had breakfast at seven, then left the house thirty minutes after and arrived in the company at eight or earlier depending on the traffic.
Traffic wasn't bad today so we arrived before eight but he had me doing different things so I couldn't get away till now.
I rush the meal and stand up minutes later then begin walking to the elevator. I am about to enter the elevator when someone walks past me and enters inside.
"Melanie!"
Dexter's mother, Eveth Knight.
That was one overbearing woman, just like her son. The only difference was she happened to love me, way too much.
"Eveth", I replied her with a forced smile.
Yeah, she made me begin calling her by her first name once she fell in love with me. It was way easier though, since it saved me the stress of having to call her Miss Knight in some places and Mrs Abram in some circles.
Eveth was Mr Knight's overpampered daughter. She had gotten pregnant with Dexter while in college but Dexter's father had denied the pregnancy until Mr Knight came into the picture.
Dexter's father was forced into accepting the child and they signed a contract stating he would live with Mr Knight and act like they were married till Dexter was six then disappear from their lives afterwards.
So the contract was followed peacefully until they found out he was seeing someone else on Dexter's second birthday party. Eveth revealed the contract while ranting in annoyance and the media had immediately picked it up.
He was sent out of the house afterwards but allowed to visit Dexter until the expiration of the contract. He had filed for custody when Dexter was ten but lost the suit and that was the last time Eveth and Dexter laid their eyes on him.
Don't ask how I know, Eveth is a blabbermouth.
"How are you here so early?", I asked
"Don't you remember when last I came here and Dexter refused to go out with me claiming he already had his day planned?" She reminded me.
I told you he's a jerk.
I remember that day vividly. The haughty Eveth was reduced to a beggar that day because of her fucked-up son. And then he told me to get her out of his office when she began making a scene.
Why me?
Eveth had cried badly that day. It was just about two weeks ago.
"I decided to come early today so that I can get a place in his schedule", she sighs.
Except that his schedule has already been prepared since yesterday evening but I will not mention that though.
"Let's go together", I say and walk into the elevator then press the elevator buttons.
"Is Liam in a good mood today? Will he listen to me?", she asks.
I don't how she manages to switch between calling him the shortened form of his middle name, William and calling him by his first name, Dexter so easily. I suppose when you have a son that would freak out on you if the world found out he was called such an affectionate nickname, you will learn.
"I think he should but I have been away from him so I can't tell if he got riled up while I was away", I answer truthfully knowing he had more mood swings than a pregnant woman.
"Pardon my manners sweetheart, I didn't even ask about you", Eveth coos and caresses my hair.
"I'm fine, ma"
"He has began stressing you out, hasn't he?"
"It's my job, ma", I smile.
"I don't know why Liam is so difficult", she exhales. "Let's go to a spa on Saturday, it'll help you relax"
"I don't think..."
"Liam doesn't have anything planned for you, does he? He doesn't work on weekends so shouldn't need you"
It was true he didn't work on weekends but somehow I still spent my Saturdays doing some work or the other for him. However, whenever I managed to have a Saturday to myself, I would just go home and stay with my family for the weekend.
Sometimes, I would meet up with my friends but that was very rare and sometimes, I would just stay at home. Saturdays left to me were uncommon though but my official workdays included Saturday so I couldn't complain.
"I don't know about that"
"I'll ask him"
But what if I just don't want to spend hours of my day with you?
Spending time with Eveth would mean shopping with her which was hell, eating weird stuff and different activities that were always actually fun except that Eveth's clinginess would make it tiring.
I don't really blame Dexter for not wanting to go out with his mother. Especially if you add the fact that she would usually introduce him to some dumb beauty every once in a while.
Don't ask me how I know once again. Eveth is a blabbermouth and Dexter drags me along sometimes.
It was still no excuse for him to be so adamant even when she was already getting emotional. She was his mother!
"Good morning, ma'am", Dexter's secretary, Elizabeth Morris greeted as we walk in.
"I've told you not to call me ma'am, it makes me feel old", Eveth complains.
Her complaints were the only disadvantage of calling her ma'am which was the only way to escape the manner of address problem.
"Do you think I'm a wrinkly old woman?", Eveth pouts turning to me.
"Not at all, Eveth", I reply trying to soothe her bruised ego.
"Then why does she call me ma'am?"
"You're our boss's mother, we have to respect you", I pacify.
"Now wouldn't it be nice if Liam thought that way too?", she sighs. "Tell him I'm here, Elizabeth"
"Yes, ma", Elizabeth replies. "Sir, your mother is here", she announces over the intercom and there is a pause. "He says you can come in. He's asking for you too, Miss Wright"
"Okay", I reply and walk inside with Eveth.
"Miss Wright, I need you to go back home and help Mrs Corazon out", Dexter mutters once we enter without looking up from his laptop.
"Sir?"
"I believe you aren't deaf"
"I heard you, sir. I just blurted that out because I was surprised, I'm sorry", I apologize even though slightly annoyed.
It was characteristic of him to spout such insultive statements but it was still annoying. I had only learnt to control my facial expression on receiving such comments but my mind has never gotten used to his harsh treatment.
"Liam, you shouldn't be so mean to her. It'll soon be four years since you both have been working together and she has been with you ever since you became the CEO, you both should be friends by now"
She was right about me having been with Dexter throughout his journey as CEO. I was appointed as Dexter's personal assistant shortly after his appointment as CEO.
It still surprised me that I was still here, I had seen about five secretaries come and go but somehow he didn't fire me. Maybe it was because of his grandfather.
"Miss Wright, I believe I had given you an instruction", he tells me ignoring his mother's comment.
"I'll be leaving now", I replied and walked out.
Asshole.
DEXTER'S POINT OF VIEW "Good day, Mother", I greet once Melanie walks out of my office. "Liam", she smiles and I groan internally. She can never get over that nickname. It has become annoying to me since over two decades ago and I have always told her but she never stops. "Why are you so mean to Melanie?", she complains as she sits on one of the cushions in my office and I sigh. "I'm not mean to her", I grunt. I don't understand why she always thinks I'm being mean to Melanie when I haven't even treated her like I would have liked to. I'm always trying to act neutral to her because annoying as she may be, I've gotten used to having her around and I wouldn't want her resigning. "That's exactly the problem with you, you never know that you're being annoying", Mother nags. "Mother, why are you here?" "I came to see you. The last time I came, you claimed you had already drawn up your schedule so couldn't go out with me" That was one annoying day. She had began complaini
DEXTER'S POINT OF VIEW I had to admit that the idea wasn't a bad one though. It wouldn't be too much of a deviation if I asked Melanie to work as my chef but still... "No, Mother" "Fine", she rolls her eyes. Who knows if this wasn't even one of her attempts to matchmake Melanie and I? It's good I rejected it. "But what's wrong with Melanie as a woman? Even married men find themselves having an affair with their personal assistants or secretary but you are not even friends with Melanie" She talks too much, eats too much and eats quite savagely too and... What else? She's clumsy sometimes and doesn't pay so much attention to how she looks, sometimes. I don't really know to be honest, she just annoys me. She is a beautiful lady though, I'm surprised she hasn't yet given me a wedding invitation all these years. "Or did she do something wrong?", Mother inquires. She was shabbily dressed when I met her for the first time and stuttered a lot. She wasn't very punctual then t
Chapter 5. Melanie's Pov. Why is Eveth calling me by this time?, it's 9pm and it's really rare. There is no way I'm not going to pick the call. "Hello, you will be working for Dexter for the next three months, since Mrs Corazon will not be around." She said immediately I picked the call. She must have been mistaken, there is no way Dexter will agree with what she just said. "Ma'am, I think you are mistaken...Dexter wouldn't want me to work for him." I tried explaining but she cuts me off immediately. "No, he was the one who said three months, so you can start working tomorrow, I will come and pick you up tomorrow since tomorrow is Saturday. My poor son must be really hungry." She said the last sentence with an awful voice. I know she's just trying to convince me to work for her son, I will have to do it for her sake and not for his sake. "Okay, I will prepare myself." I agreed and I could hear her squeaking over there. She must be really happy, looks like someone that has anoth
Chapter Six. Melanie's Point Of View. Oh Shi!!! I never imagined she was going to mention this here, she's making the matter worse. I bit my lips in shame as I looked at the jerk who was already staring at me. He didn't say anything as he walked back upstairs. "Hey I'm talking to you!!! How dare you walk out on me Huh? Or don't tell me you are occupied on Saturdays again." Eveth shouted as he walked back upstairs. He stopped walking as he looked back. Don't tell me he disobeyed his mother. "Last room by the left side the the hall way, that is your room." He said and I guess he was referring to me, he went back without even looking back. "I should look for a good wife for him that will teach him manners." She stated as she looked at me. This woman should realize that I am not interested in her proud son at all. "I will go to my room now." I excused myself as I bowed my head. I carried the luggage up the stairs as I went to the room he directed me to. Ahhhhh, life is going to b
Chapter Seven. Melanie's Pov. I was hungry since I haven't eaten anything this morning, I thought of preparing something for myself. I went downstairs as I didn't meet Eveth there, I guess she went out already. I went to the kitchen as I thought of what to eat. Bread will be better, I opened the cupboard as I brought out the flour and the ingredients I was going to use. "Should I prepare his own or not?" I asked myself as my mind diverted towards that jerk. No! I'm not preparing his own, he said he wasn't expecting me to come this early. So I should prepare this food around the time he wants me to come. Or I should just punish him a little bit? I decided I was going to mix large quantity of flour, after mixing I will keep much in the fridge and bake the rest. I started preparing the bread and I was almost done already, I brought out the bread from the oven. Gosh! I'm good when it comes to baking. I dropped the bread with the tray on the cabinet as I looked up and I was surpr
Chapter Eight. *The Next Morning* Dexter's Pov.... I woke up with my head banging so loud, it hurts so much. I wanted to come down from the bed as I realized my leg was on something soft and hard at the same time. I quickly removed my leg as it was a human that was on the floor. Shit! What the hell is she e doing in my room. Or is she scared to stay in her room? What a weak girl. Wait, what happened to me yesterday, don't tell me my trauma is back, I remembered calling Melanie to my room. She already know about it, I hope she doesn't ask more questions and she should just mind her business that way. "Hey wake up." I used my leg to hit her back. As she turned over with her thighs being exposed, what the!!! I watched as she opened her eyes slowly, when she saw me she quickly stood up from the floor. "What are you doing in my room, you can't even spare me some privacy? Are you that scared?" I asked immediately she stood up. "But sir..." She wanted to say something but she stopp
Chapter Nine. Three Months With My Cute Boss. Chapter Nine. Dexter's Pov. I don't know what made me to say I was going to follow her outside, am I crazy? To be honest to find another P.A that is as hardworking as her is really rare. This is the first time I will be seeing her dressing like that anyways. "Do you mean it? Why do you want to follow us?" My mom asked as I just rolled my eyes. I'm very sure my mom must be surprised by what I just said, I hope she doesn't think about another thing. "I'm coming I will go and change." I told them so as to wait for me. "Your face looks swollen and you look tired, what is wrong dear?" I heard my mother asking Melanie as I walked up the stairs, I hope she doesn't tell my mom that she slept in my room. ******** I was driving already, my mom insisted she was going to sit at the backseat while Melanie should sit with me at the front, it was not really a long journey and it didn't take long before we reached the boutique. It was a unisex
Chapter Ten. Dexter's Pov. It is in the evening already and Melanie isn't back, my mom was damn worried. "She will come back home." I assured her. The way she is pacing around is really bothering me. It was then I heard a car screeching at the front of our house, who could that be? I'm not expecting visitor also. My mom rushed out with the hope thinking she was Melanie while I followed her. It wasn't Melanie... A young guy came out from the car. I don't think I know this guy anywhere!!! Who is he? She was disappointed as it occurs to be a young guy, looks as if he came to see us. He walked towards us it was then I realized he really came to see us. "Are you Mr.Dexter?" He asked immediately he got closer to me. "Yes I am, what happened?" I asked when he said he was looking for me. "Miss Melanie is in the hospital right now. She wanted you to know so I had to..." He was talking before my mom interrupted. "Which hospital? And what happened to her?" My mom asked panicking He t
