Rosa POV

My pulse thundered in my ears, echoing the brutal, electric hum of skin against skin.

Drake’s fingers clamped around my wrist like a steel cuff, holding me flush against his hard chest. His gaze burned into mine, dark and utterly untamed, before dipping slowly to my mouth.

I swallowed hard, forcing every ounce of defensive venom I possessed into my voice. "Let go of me, Drake, before I call your twin or use this kitchen spatula to rearrange your face."

Drake didn't flinch. An arrogant shadow crossed his face. "Do it, Rosa. Let's see you try."

Instead of backing down, I stretched my free hand blindly across the island, my fingers wrapping around the handle of a plastic spatula. I whipped it up, brandishing it like a sword right under his nose.

Drake blinked, startled by the sheer audacity, and instantly shoved my hand away, releasing my wrist as if I carried a plague. He stepped back, scowling darkly. "You're seriously insane."

"And you're insufferable," I snapped back, rubbing my wrist where his imprint still burned.

Before we could trade any more verbal blows, the front door swung open, followed by the jangle of keys.

"Rosa? Drake?" Chloe’s voice echoed from the foyer as she stepped into the kitchen, dropping a canvas tote bag on the counter. She looked between the two of us, taking in our flushed faces and the spatula in my hand. She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Good grief. Have you two started planning each other's murders yet?"

"She started it," Drake muttered, grabbing his coffee mug and glaring at me.

"I was literally just trying to get caffeine, your majesty," I retorted, rolling my eyes so hard they almost got stuck.

Chloe waved a hand dismissively, her expression turning sympathetic as she looked at me. "Anyway, Rosa, I stopped by your apartment complex this morning before coming over. Total nightmare. Your place is wrecked, the water ruined half your things, and half the students in the building are throwing a chaotic hallway party like nothing even happened. Plus, your landlord is a slumlord, he told me to my face he isn't paying a dime for your damaged property, just patching up the drywall and floors."

My stomach plummeted. "Unbelievable," I groaned, dropping my head into my hands. "My laptop notes are ruined. My favorite books are mulch."

"Hey, don't look at me," Drake remarked coldly, leaning against the doorframe. "Maybe if you weren't such a walking storm cloud of bad attitude, you wouldn't have caused an indoor flood out of pure spite."

I spun around, sneering. "You're a miserable a*shole, you know that?"

"Please, for my sanity, stop fighting each other," Chloe groaned again, stepping between us. She checked her watch. "Drake, you have practice, right?"

"Yeah," Drake said, his eyes locking on mine one last time with a slow, deliberate smirk. "And then I'm meeting up with my new catch downtown."

A hot, irritating spike of jealousy twisted sharply in my chest, though I forced my face into a blank mask.

Chloe wrinkled her nose in disgust. "Ugh, gross. Do you ever keep your pants zipped for more than twenty-four hours? Control your wh*res, Hayes."

Drake just laughed, a dark, rich sound, before turning on his heel and walked out of the kitchen toward the back exit.

Chloe turned back to me. "Do you have early classes today?"

"Yeah, first lecture starts in an hour," I sighed.

"Me too. Come on, let's grab our bags before we both lose our minds."

---

Twenty minutes later, Chloe and I parked our cars in the crowded campus lot and headed toward the main academic quad. But we barely made it past the student union before my eyes locked on a familiar, high-maintenance silhouette standing by the fountain.

Sienna.

Drake’s clingy, unhinged ex-girlfriend.

Sienna was surrounded by a cluster of her sorority friends, her bleached-blonde hair catching the midday sun. The second she saw Chloe and me walking past, her sharp eyes narrowed into slits.

I let out a low breath. "Speak of the devil. Your favorite person is glaring at us."

Chloe groaned, pulling her sunglasses down her nose. "Ugh. Do not make eye contact. If she starts a scene today, I'm transferring."

It was a valid fear. When Drake had finally broken up with Sienna a few months ago, she had completely lost her grip. She had cornered Chloe in the campus library, sobbing dramatically, screaming about how Drake had ditched her for some new sl*t on campus, and causing a massive, humiliating public scene that had landed on the campus gossip blog for a week straight.

"She has this toxic radar," Chloe muttered under her breath, quickening her pace. "Every time I walk across this quad, I swear I run into her. Let's just pray history doesn't repeat itself today."

We hurried our steps, eager to escape Sienna’s field of vision and head toward our respective lecture halls.

We never made it.

Before we even reached the edge of the science building, a wave of students came sprinting backward out of the athletic center, shouting and laughing, the double doors banging against the brick walls.

"Holy sh*t, move!" a guy carrying a hockey stick yelled past us. "The captain of Westbridge University just rolled up to the ice rink. He's cornered Drake, and they're about to tear each other apart over a massive bet!"

Chloe and I froze in our tracks, exchanging wide-eyed looks.

Without another word, Chloe grabbed my arm, and we spun around, sprinting back across the quad toward the campus ice arena.

Rosa POVMy heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird, my breath catching in my throat as Drake’s words echoed off the bedroom walls.“I never said I'd let anyone else put their hands on you.”The confession hung in the air, dense and suffocating, bridging the gap between his strict rules and his unpredictable, feral protectiveness. Every instinct I possessed screamed at me to back away, to build a fortress out of sarcasm and put a mile of distance between us.Instead of melting against him, survival mode kicked in. I planted both palms flat against his chest and shoved hard.Drake didn’t budge an inch. He remained anchored to the spot, caging me in, his chest rising and falling heavily against my hands. But his eyes flared with a sudden, sharp intensity as he looked down at me.The air between us grew thick enough to cut with a knife. The space in the guest room suddenly felt microscopic. His gaze dropped slowly from my eyes down to my mouth, lingering on my lips with a hung

Drake POVMy mind didn't process the crowd. It didn't process the whispers echoing off the glass or the stunned silence of my own teammates standing twenty feet away. The only thing registering in my central nervous system was the phantom ghost of Westbridge fingers wrapping around Rosa’s arm.I dropped my stick, scooped her up as she slipped on the ice, and shoved her completely behind my back. My body automatically slotted into a protective barrier between her and the rest of the world. When I turned back to face Cole Montgomery, the blood roaring in my ears sounded like a freight train.Cole tried to recover, offering up that lazy, mocking grin of his, but the second he took a half-step forward, my gaze pinned him to the spot. I stepped up to him, invading his space until my chest plate pressed directly into his."You listen to me, Montgomery," I whispered, my voice dropping into a low, dead-eyed tone that cut through the cavernous chill of the arena. "You look at her again. You sp

Rosa POVChloe grabbed my hand, and we sprinted across the quad, joining the stampede of students rushing toward the campus ice arena. The double doors were propped wide open, and the freezing, chilled air of the rink hit us like a blow the second we squeezed our way inside. We pushed through the wall of bodies, elbowing our way to the front of the packed bleachers overlooking the ice.Out on the center ice logo, Drake stood in his full RavenBrook hockey gear, minus his helmet, chest heaving under his jersey. His jaw was locked so hard I could see the muscles jumping, and his dark eyes burned with a terrifying fury.Standing opposite him was Cole Montgomery—the arrogant, smug captain of Westbridge University. Cole was leaning casually on his hockey stick, a mocking half-smile plastered across his face as he jawed at Drake about a high stakes regional tournament bet, tossing out lazy jabs about RavenBrook’s "fragile ego.""You guys talk a big game in the locker room, Drake," Cole calle

Rosa POVMorning light cut across the guest room ceiling like a knife, waking me up with a throbbing headache and zero patience.Between the stress of my apartment dissolving into an indoor swimming pool and the obnoxious soundtrack Drake and his campus groupie had provided down the hall at two in the morning, I had barely gotten an hour of solid sleep. My throat felt like sandpaper, and my brain was demanding one specific thing: caffeine.I rolled out of bed, pulling on an oversized, faded band t-shirt and grey cotton shorts, running a hand through my messy hair. Tiptoeing out into the hallway, I made my way toward the kitchen like a stealthy operative. My goal was simple: brew coffee, fill a travel mug, and scurry back to the guest room before the resident hockey tyrant even woke up.I rounded the corner into the kitchen and walked straight into a wall of pure bad luck.Drake was already there. He was leaning against the marble kitchen island, completely dressed for an early morning

Drake POVThe headboard slammed against the drywall with enough force to crack the plaster. Beneath me, Brittany whimpered, her fingers clawing at my bare shoulders, digging nails into my skin as I thrust into her hard, fast, and completely detached. To anyone else, it would look like passion. To me, it was pure, unadulterated extermination.I wasn't even looking at her face. My eyes were slammed shut, jaw locked so tight my teeth ached, as I used the friction and the heat to drown out a completely different image. An image of wet, transparent cotton clink around b*obs, blazing brown eyes, and a sharp, mocking mouth telling me that touching me was at the bottom of her bucket list.Rosa.The name scraped across my brain like a jagged piece of glass. She was supposed to be asleep down the hall. She was supposed to be Chloe’s annoying, off-limits best friend—the girl I had spent years treating like verbal garbage just to keep her out of my space. Instead, she was breathing under my roof.
