Elizabeth nodded, her face still cast downward in embarrassment, and she turned slightly toward Kaylie, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you, ma... I’ll never forget this kindness. I’ll be forever grateful for your generosity,” her voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes again. “I’ll do everything in my power to repay this favor if ever needed.”

A warm smile spread across Kaylie’s lips as she enveloped Elizabeth in a gentle hug. “You don’t owe me anything,” she said softly. “But if you insist on repaying me, then focus on your studies. I want to see you graduate with flying colors. That’s the only payment I want.”

Elizabeth sniffled. She took a step back and nodded reassuringly. “I promise,” she vowed, her voice filled with determination. “I won’t let you down, ma. I’ll graduate as the best student, the overall best student at the university. I promise.”

Gage cleared his throat, drawing their attention. “Don’t I deserve a hug, too?” He asked, a hint of amusement in his vo

“Not again,” Kaylie muttered under her breath as she checked her phone screen. Gage’s name flashed for the sixth time after they departed this morning, his persistent calls a constant reminder of the rules she was expected to follow. She silenced the call, her fingers moving with practiced ease. “I’m not answering,” she whispered, but Natasha caught the words and chuckled softly beside her.“Ignoring his calls might not be the best idea, ma’am,” Natasha cautioned, her voice low. Kaylie’s gaze drifted back, her brow furrowed in concern. Before she could respond, Natasha elaborated, “If you don’t answer, he might just show up here”" “He’d do that?” She repeated, a hint of amusement creeping into her voice. She chuckled softly and continued toward her seat, her heels clicking on the floor as she ascended the short staircase. “Why would he do that?” Natasha’s response was immediate. “Because he’d be worried.” Kaylie’s giggles trailed behind her as she reached her desk, her lips curvi

The sleek car pulled up in front of the company, its model sending shockwaves of excitement through the crowd. “Wow!” The collective gasp was followed by hands covering mouths, eyes glued to the vehicle as if mesmerized. As gazes drifted to the license plate, speculation ran rampant.Could it be her? Why would she arrive on such an enigmatic ride when Bryson and Chairman Paul opted for more understated models?“You can get out now, ma.” Richard said, his voice a gentle prompt. The plan had been to turn heads, and with attention firmly fixed on her, Natasha stepped forward, her timing perfectly choreographed. With a slight bow, she opened the door, greeting, “Welcome, ma.” Kaylie grabbed her bag, took a soft breath, and stepped out, her heel touching the ground precisely. For a moment, she paused, then descended, her movements fluid. Natasha stepped aside, allowing Kaylie to lead the way before closing the door and falling into step behind her, bag in hand, her gaze cast downward.

“Rule number one, take care of yourself,”“Two, if anything goes wrong, call me,”“And then there’s the third rule, the most crucial one. Show them you’re a force not to be reckoned with.”Kaylie smiled to herself as she recalled Gage’s instructions. Despite his objections, the chairman had insisted she return to work today, and Gage had reluctantly agreed to let her go. Gage wanted her to dress elegantly for the office, but she had other plans and thanks to Natasha, she was now dressed in a casual yet stylish outfit - a crisp white blouse paired with fitted green trousers and a pair of heels that would make her presence known without drawing too much attention. As she stepped out, a delicate necklace with intertwined G and K pendants caught the light, a customized gift from Gage that added a touch of sophistication to her outfit. In her hand, she carried a sleek rectangular handbag, a gift from Richard. With Natasha having taken care of her notebook and laptop, she was free to walk

Kaylie’s words wrapped around Elizabeth like a soothing balm, gently easing her tension away. “Thank you…” Elizabeth whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. She tightened her arms around Kaylie, her head nestling into the warmth of her shoulder as she sniffled, trying to stem the flow of tears. “Thank you, ma.”A soft smile spread across Kaylie’s face as she tenderly rubbed Elizabeth’s head with one hand and gently patted her back with the other. “It’s fine, Eli.” She murmured, her voice a gentle whisper, allowing Elizabeth to shift and move however she needed to without constraint. As Elizabeth’s head found its comfortable spot, she let out a deep breath and closed her eyes, her body slowly relaxing. Minutes ticked by, and she drifted off to sleep. But the sweet calm was shattered by the acrid smell of burning stew, jolting them both awake. “Hun?!” They exclaimed in unison, eyes wide with alarm.Elizabeth’s head shot up, and she rushed to check the stew, while Kaylie, still dis

-Later in the day-Elizabeth hesitated in the doorway, her head peeking into the parlor like a cautious whisper. The room was empty, and with a quiet resolve, she slipped inside, the door creaking softly shut behind her. For a moment, she stood frozen, her thoughts swirling in a silent debate. Then, with a deep breath, she steeled herself and took her first step forward, her determination warring with the doubts that lingered in her mind.As she reached the door to Kaylie’s room, her hand rose, hesitating in mid-air. The distance between her fingers and the door handle grew, a chasm of uncertainty yawning open. The doubts won out, and her hand faltered, hovering just out of reach.‘Should I really do this?’ She wondered, her brow furrowing as doubt etched across her face. ‘Should I just resign as a price I’ll have to pay for my mistakes?’‘If I do, can I really hide from the consequences? Won’t she find me wherever I go if she’s determined?’ Her thoughts swirled, tangling in a kno

Gage’s mind had been boiling in a rage since they left Director Rachel’s house. “That lady must pay!” He growled, his words echoing for the second time - first, as they exited Director Rachel’s compound, and now, as they waited for the Garcia main gate to swing open.As the gates creaked open, Richard’s foot hovered over the accelerator, ready to move forward. But Kaylie’s stopped voice halted him. “Wait,” she said softly, her eyes locking onto Gage’s as she turned to face him. “Gage, I need you to take a step back. Elizabeth’s actions were directed at me, not you. Can you let me handle it?”“But-” his lips parted to protest, but Kaylie's raised finger silenced him, its gentle gesture imbued with an unspoken authority that only she seemed to wield. He swallowed his words, his eyes locked on hers as he waited for her to continue.“It’s connected to you, yes, but the device was planted on me,” Kaylie pointed out, her voice even and measured. “I’m asking you, please, to let me handle t

“Stop!” Vera’s voice echoed as she rushed out of Sadie’s room. “Don’t give her the money!” Vera’s authoritative tone brooked no argument, and Sadie’s hand hovered, frozen in mid-air, hesitated, unsure whether to hand the envelope to Elizabeth.Elizabeth’s eyes widened, her mouth agape as she stared at Vera. “What are you talking about?” She demanded, her words tumbling out in a rush. As Vera approached, Elizabeth’s gaze locked onto hers. “What do you mean, she shouldn’t give me the money?” Her voice rose, worry and frustration boiling over. “Why? Why shouldn’t she give me the money? Who are you to dictate?”Elizabeth reached out, her arm stretching toward Sadie, but Vera swiftly snatched the envelope. “What are you doing?!” Elizabeth’s voice escalated, her face twisted in frustration.Vera raised an eyebrow, her arms crossing over her chest as she leaned slightly to one side. A discreet smile played on her lips as she gazed fiercely at Elizabeth. “Taking the money because you don’

“If we lose now, it’s over... the end of everything.”Kaylie’s gaze locked with Rachel’s, and she nodded slowly. “I know, Ma.” She agreed.Gage shifted forward in his seat, his eyes fixed on Rachel. “What’s the way forward now, Director?” He asked, waiting for her to break eye contact with Kaylie and meet his gaze. “We need a way forward. That old man is desperate.”Director Rachel nodded in agreement. “His actions shouldn’t surprise you. You know how he operates. This isn’t his first time, but it should be his last,”She paused, taking a deep breath—a rare moment of respite from the verbal sparring matches with Chairman Paul. “We need to win and make him regret his actions. This must be his last attempt to destroy either you or her,” she emphasized, her right index finger wagging twice. “If this continues or happens one more time, we can’t predict the consequences...”She drummed her fingers on her palm, concern etched on her face. “We need to cut off his options and clarify that he’
