Chapter 5

“No wait!”

Raven’s hand slips from Mouse’s hold, pain, confusion and disbelief sacking her hard. The man in front of her is Draco, the same man who she was once his jewel but now he’s treating her like trash, like he doesn’t care, like he doesn’t know her.

There’s no way she’s leaving without getting an answer. Not a day has passed since his supposed death that she hasn’t lived in grief.

Many mornings where she found it difficult to get up from her bed, many more nights that she cried herself to sleep dressed in his oversized clothes just to feel close to him.

So many times she contemplated ending her own life for a chance to be with him as life was suddenly no longer worth living.

Her obsession with creating a vaccine to prevent werewolves from ever getting harmed by wolfsbane, leading to many sleepless nights is all because of him, because she wanted his death to mean something and here he is, in front of her, treating her with such scorn?

“Why are you doing this Draco? Talk to me, how are you alive?” Her heart clenches as she speaks, tears roll down her eyes freely, the pain she feels is gruesome, heavy.

“I think you have the wrong person, young lady. This is Rex, not Dra whatever, now leave and stop being a nuisance before I add you to my pet collection,” the lady beside Draco quips at her, lifting her hand up and a blue aura shimmers in her palm, her eyes flashing with the same color.

Raven’s eyes are fixed on Draco’s eyes and she cannot see any emotion in them, none whatsoever. He just looks at her like what he wants her to believe that she is, a total stranger.

“Say something….” Raven’s heart breaks even further as the words spill out of her lips, “I mourned you…I still do, what’s going on? Tell me I’m not crazy, tell me I’m not dreaming.”

“You’re wide awake, just delusional. I have no idea who this Draco is,” Draco sneers, giving Mouse a death stare, “do I need to repeat myself?”

“Alright, that’s it, you’re out,” Mouse lunges for her and grabs her arm, yanking her forward but in an unexpected move, she pulls back and drives her boots up into his crotch, making him groan in pain and he lets her go.

The other guy snaps up to his feet but a low growl from Draco makes him halt.

“If Mouse can’t handle this puny thing, then maybe his muscles are useless,” he spits coldly but when he looks at Raven, she catches a look in his eyes, one that gleans through rather quickly but it’s the same one he always had in his eyes when he would teach her self defense tactics and she would pull it off flawlessly.

This particular one was straight out of his classroom as well. In his particular words: ‘no matter how strong a man is, his balls will always weaken him.’

Mouse grunts, straightening himself, his eyes dangerously glaring at Raven. She darts her eyes left and right, grabs a bottle from the table and smashes it.

Mouse is unperturbed by it, about to reach her when she backs up and places the sharp edge of the broken bottle against her neck.

“Why are you doing this? Why did you do all of it? Talk to me Draco, please…if you don’t, then I’m going to hurt myself, please….” She sobs bitterly, her chest rising and falling slowly, trickles of tears running down her eyes.

Mouse looks at Draco sharply, waiting for his orders and so does the rest of the group.

“Well, what are you waiting for? Do it already so we can get back to our fun,” Draco quips and nonchalantly looks away from her, filling his glass from the bottle of tequila in front of him.

A thick lump slowly forces its way down Raven’s throat. For a moment she wonders if she’s wrong about this man’s identity but there’s no way she can be.

She closes her eyes and slowly presses the bottle against her neck, wincing as it pricks her flesh when she feels a hand grab her hand and pull it back.

Her eyes fly open and it's Draco. She heaves a sigh of relief, “I knew it was you,” she mutters.

“It’s not me, I’m not Draco,” he yanks the bottle from her grip, eyes like steel, voice like ice, “you’re just taking so much time to plunge this into your throat that by the time you do, we’d all already be too bored to continue enjoying ourselves.”

He tosses the bottle to Mouse and turns back to face her, “Look here, I don’t fucking know who you are or why you think I’m someone I’m not and I honestly couldn’t give a fuck what your reasons are either but if you ever bother me like this again, I’ll make sure I do you the favour of splitting your throat open myself since you’re so eager to die. Now the get the fuck out of here.”

[I want you at the dance tonight. There’s a few people I want to introduce you to. Linda’s already on her way with a dress for you.]Raven frowns at the text message on her phone, her brows creasing together. She stares at her backpack she had already packed on her bed.She intended to pull an all-nighter at the lab tonight to make swift progress in her work but now she has to be at the party. If Professor McCall is taking the time to send her a dress himself, then it’s quite important to him that she’s there. She scrolls through her contact and dials Scott’s number, remembering he had asked her to be his plus one to the party. While she technically doesn’t want to be his date or anything special to the dance, having someone she can talk to at the party will allow her to blend in easily.Social gatherings are not really her thing, not without Draco anyway.“Hey Raven, how’re you doing?” Scott’s voice comes from the other end of the phone.“I’m good. Still going to the dance tonight?”

“Seems you’re out of luck tonight Gilbert, see you next time.”“Yeah whatever,” Professor McCall slams the cards in his hand on the poker table, shoving the casino coins towards the other man who’s having a laugh off.“Fucking hell. I really thought I had the bastard “ he grumbles to himself as he walks out of the private gambling room of the Papel Casino, stepping out onto the underground car park. He takes his phone out and checks the life CCTV footage of the lab and he clenches his fist, his chest tightening with annoyance.“This stupid girl is going to fucking get me killed,” he mumbles to himself through gritted teeth. “I might have to use other measures to get her in line.”He jumps into the back of his car. “To my office,” he says not raising his head up from the footage.“Put in your seatbelt sir, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”The sound of Royce’s voice makes his heart stop beating for a slight second. His eyes widen, fear palpable in them as Royce’s face becomes clearer i

“You’r– you’re my mate?” Raven stutters, the beating of her heart erratic, the expression on her face reflecting just how stunned she is.“You heard our damn wolves,” Royce smirks, pulling the seat and dropping into it. He leans back into the chair and crosses his arms under his chest, a gentle teasing smile on his face.Raven looks down at her trembling fingers on the table. It never crossed her mind that there was a possibility for her to get a second chance mate. What does she do? Her wolf is bubbling with joy but the human side of her is drowning in a cauldron of despair. She cannot be with Royce, she doesn’t want to be with anyone. Not now, she still needs to find out what happened to Draco. She has to get her closure, she deserves it. She’s spent years living like his broken widow. She deserves to know why he gave her a world of joy and then suddenly tossed her into a world of pain.A mate will only be a distraction. There’s no way she can handle this now.She looks back at Ro

  • Till Death Do Us Apart   Chapter 20

The heavy rattling of the windows from the strong wind blowing outside wakes Raven up from her slumber. She sighs, rubs her eyes and takes her phone to look at the time. It’s almost 9pm. It seems her break from work to take a little nap turned into a much needed sleep. She’s been at the lab, working for the past 36 hours, trying to make up for lost time but more effort without the mental clarity she needs doesn’t seem to do much for her. When she first started this work, it was meant to be a distraction, something to take her mind off things, no matter how noble her intentions were but overtime it became an obsession or so she thought.Only now does she realise what her true obsession is and once again, her work is back to being a distraction but not the type that takes her mind off things, the type distracting her from using her mind to do what she actually wants to be doing; figuring out the mess in her personal life. She walks over to the window, staring at the full moon outside

“I thought you said no contact till further notice,” Scott frowns as he steps into Royce’s apartment, “did something happen?”“I don’t know, did something happen?” Royce retorts, a crossed look on his face, blowing on a Cuban cigarette, looking directly into Scott’s eyes.Scott’s heart thuds, his lips part slightly. His brain does a quick scan of recent events to see if there’s been any slip ups in his duty but he can’t identify any.“You know I’m always straight with you, if I did something wrong, you can just tell me,” he says, his voice full of caution and a tinge of terror. He more than anyone knows how vicious it is to get on Royce’s bad side.“Sit,” Royce points to the couch opposite him, his eyes never leaving Scott, “guess who I found at one of our hotspots last night?”Scott squints, nervous, “wh- who?”“Our little bird, Raven.”“Raven? Are you sure?” Scott’s voice is full of shock.“Did she tell you where she was last night?”“No— I mean—”“I need you to go back to shadowin

“Since when do you care?” Raven replies, her voice low, cautious, having a tinge of pain. She’ll never forget the first day of school when she was in sixth grade. A group of girls had decided to teach her a lesson and put her in her place since she was courting all of Draco’s attention by stuffing her face in the public toilet.Royce walked right by and even when she called for help, he just ignored her and walked away, allowing the girls to have their way. Over the years, she didn’t think much of it as Royce's character became clear to her but she never forgets that day.Royce scoffs and leans back into his seat, “you may have exiled yourself but you’re still a member of the Nightshade pack and we have ethics that guide us, this—” he picks up the bag and flicks it back down, “this doesn’t fit into those ethics.”“Well I told you it isn’t mine, I just–” she hesitates and huffs frustratingly, “I don’t want the police getting involved in this or anything like that. It’s for a friend who
