He called me his princess and he promised me a ring, our life together was going to be Epic but when I turned 18 and my wolf cried “Mate”, He rejected me and claimed another girl in front of my eyes before he disappeared from my life, until……one night he caught me in that nightclub, I couldn’t believe it was him but I was sure it was him but then he pinned me to the wall and whispered through gritted teeth. “I don’t know you, and certainly do not love you. You have got the wrong man. But I don’t mind having you for tonight’s appetite.”

Raven smiles at her mom’s text. [Thanks Mom! Have my flowers arrived?] she replies, staring at the half heart tattoo on the back of her hand. The other half is in Draco’s hand, so whenever they hold hands, it makes a full heart. Draco Aslan is her mate, and the most perfect man in this world. In this life full of darkness and sorrow, he is her light and joy, everything and the only thing that makes her happy. They’ve known each other since they were six, even back then she knew she would be his Luna, not because she understood what “Alpha heir” meant, but because she knew he was THE prince of her life. “Don’t even think about it.” The sound of Claire’s voice brings her attention back to the laboratory. Claire is one of her course mates. Class ended a while ago but Claire and her clique like to hang back and gossip. They have tea about everyone on campus and this is where they heartily share it. They don’t mind that she hears, because to them, she doesn't even exist. “What? I just want to say hi to her,” a boy whose name she does not know says and the ladies chuckle. “To that pretty face? Yeah…If you’re not Professor McCall, a test tube or a conical flask, the lab worm speaks to no one.” One of them says in a sarcastic tone. “Listen,” Claire’s voice goes octaves lower, the way it normally does when they gossip about people. “I heard she has a mental illness and if she stops studying and has fun even for a few minutes, she’ll run mad.” “Then they should have sent her to an asylum, not a college. Maybe she’d actually talk to her fellow mad people,” another of the ladies replies and they all laugh. Raven wipes the corner of her eyes, just realising their harsh and false words are making her eyes watery. Mean girls are everywhere but she never learned how to deal with them. Usually, when this sort of thing happens, she would run out to cry in the bathroom and when Draco finds out, they would pay dearly. She pretends not to hear them, packs her things, and bites her lips when she passes them without making eye contact. Her ears are burning, but they are the ones who should feel ashamed! The moment she makes it out of the lab, tears burst out. Draco cared for her so well that she didn't have to learn all these...until college. She doesn’t live in the lab, although she usually stays till midnight, but not today, it’s her birthday. It’s her only day off in the year, the one day she can’t be here all day. She checks her phone again. Her mom hasn’t replied yet so she texts her. [Send a picture of the flower when it arrives, thanks!] On the twilight of her birthdays, roses from Draco arrive. It’s been like that ever since she understood what “romantic” was. This is the night she wants to be nowhere else, but just to enjoy it at home. This is her night. She needs to get a certain red wine. It’s Draco’s favorite. Tonight won’t be the same without it. She remembers the first time they tasted this wine. It was the night of her 17th birthday. She wasn't allowed to drink until she was 18, but he was already 18 a few months ago, and he bragged about how he could buy alcohol now. She begged him to let her have a taste, and he taunted her till she was almost in tears. In the end, he gave up his "manly" whiskey and got a wine, this particular wine, so she could join, and she got drunk. The next morning, Draco’s dad gave him a hell of a beating for getting her drunk and typical Draco got them another bottle to console himself that same night. She parks her car in her apartment’s car park, texting her mom again. It’s already dark out, her flowers should have arrived by now. She’s beginning to get worried. [Not yet honey, maybe he didn’t order them this year?] She snatches the bag containing the wine and a few other items from the passenger seat and makes her way to her room. Her steak slips out of the bag but she doesn’t even stop to pick it up, rushing upstairs, her heart racing and her eyes becoming wet. Draco always gets her flowers, there’s no way he wouldn’t have sent them. She doesn’t even want to think that she’s not getting them this year. She rummages through her stuff for a card from last year, and texts them her order number. [Your package has been delivered.] They text back in a few minutes. She feels a little better. Her light and joy cannot forget what today is. She knew he wouldn’t. She mindlinks her mom this time around, maybe someone else got the package at the house and not her. “The package has been delivered mom. Are you sure no one got it?” From her vision, she can see her mom looking at her dad and her mom is chewing her lower lip, something she only does when she’s done something she believes is wrong. “What happened to my flowers, mom?” Raven asks sternly, feeling a tinge of annoyance in her heart. “Your father….he— look honey—” “What did dad do?” Raven cuts her off sharply, her breath rising and falling. “He trashed them,” her mom replies, dropping the link. “How could you?!” She mindlinks her dad immediately, yelling at him. He knows how important those flowers are to her, how much she looks forward to getting them every year. “Why don’t you come home and do something about it?” He replies harshly, “no one has seen you in years, you choose to stay in that college miles away from us, from home, from everyone.” “That has nothing to do with my flowers, you have no right to throw my stuff away.” Draco’s flowers are the highlight of her day and he just ruined it. Why? Why would he do this? “You need to forget about him, Raven.” “He’s my fated mate,” she growls, feeling so much anger at her dad. “He’s your fated mate. Yes, but he’s also fucking dead. Wake up!” He yells back. His words hit her like a rocket and tears start to pour down her eyes. She grabs the bag of wine and throws it far across the room, yelling in rage before she breaks down in tears. The roadside pub is exactly the kind of place Draco and his men would normally avoid. It is too exposed, with too many potential witnesses. But tonight, distance from the city matters more than discretion. He sits at a wooden table, nursing a whiskey, his expression fixed in a permanent stormy look, while his pack spreads out around the space. The conversations are muted and careful. Everyone can feel the weight of what they’ve left behind.Draco doesn’t even know where he’ll take them next.Raven wasn’t the only thing he sacrificed for Carla’s sake. He can tell his people aren’t happy that they had to leave too.For the first time in the years they’ve been together, they’d finally found a place that welcomed them. They didn’t feel like rogues or outcasts, nor were they treated that way. They were even respected and honored. They had an identity, and they were beginning to blend in and settle. And he’d had to rip them away from all of that. But what else could he do?Leaving was the
Raven’s tears have long since dried up, streaks staining her cheeks with her swollen eyes as evidence of how much she had shed. She hasn’t moved from the spot for hours. She is feeling too much and too little at the same time.Just then she hears a knock on the door, her ears twitching at the sound. But she remains unmoving, sticking to the same spot.At first, she ignores the knocking, numbly resting her chin on her folded arms on her knees. Then she hears a familiar voice.“Raven!”Mum?She perks up at the familiar voice of her mother, reverberating through the door accompanied by extra knocks.Pushing herself to her feet, she finally forces herself to leave her room, her feet padding softly against the floor as she walks to the door. She pulls it open, meeting the gaze of her mother on the other side.“Raven, my child,” her mother’s voice shakes as she takes in the sight of her daughter.“Come in, Mum.” Raven pulls the door wider, still slightly stunned at the sight of her. Her mo
Raven rushes out of the hall, leaning against the wall as she swallows gulps of air. She is only there for a few minutes, but it feels like hours before she is able to catch her breath. As soon as she does though, she pushes herself off the wall.Standing here helplessly is not going to fix anything, she knows that. So she has to do something. If Draco is actually leaving, she can still find him.Maybe she can talk to him and beg him not to leave, maybe he’ll listen to her.Yes, that’s what she’ll do. She will find him and beg him not to go.Already knowing where he will be, she leaves for the safehouse, boarding a taxi since her car is still nonfunctional right now.On the road there, an uneasy feeling presses against her chest but she pushes it back down.“Please drive faster,” she urges the driver with an impatient tone.Yet no matter how much she pushes the feeling back, it still comes to the surface, pushing its way back up.As soon as they arrive she shoves some bills into the p
Raven awakes the next day with a whole new agenda. She has been so focused on finding Royce and working on the cure that she has forgotten the reason why she can be in this city in the first place.College.She hadn’t attended classes in a while, exams are right around the corner, and she's barely completed half of her courses.Which in simple terms means she is cooked if she doesn’t catch up in time.So she sets aside all thoughts of Royce and her cure for now, and makes her way to the college. The first class of the day is one she is still very familiar with, the topics switching allows her a moment of relief. Her reckoning is when she steps into her chemistry class. The same class that Professor McCall used to teach. There is a good-looking man dressed in slacks and a grey button-up standing in front of the class.“I’m your new professor, Clark Eastwood, and I’ll be taking you for the rest of the semester.”Oh? She raises a brow at the man, thinking him too young to be a professor,
Raven tears at full speed through the city until she arrives at the lab, panting and out of breath. However, she’s too late.Just as she arrives, two cars and a minibus pull out of the driveway and pass by her in a blur. She knows that the two cars must be containing Royce and his men, but the minibus…That must be containing the unknown patient, and she just missed her opportunity to find out who it is.Her wolf lets out a grunt of disappointment as she watches them disappear out of sight. She can try to tail them to wherever they’re going until she is able to find out who is being carried in the minibus, but her wolf is already exhausted.Running through the city filled with fumes and contaminated air is nothing like the woods where her wolf is made for.All her energy had been completely depleted during the run and now, she lazily pads across the driveway to the lab.She has some extra clothes she can change into in the lab, so she will just shift in there and change into them.As
Royce pauses for a moment before shifting his gaze to the side, subtly avoiding eye contact.“It’s nobody important,” he answers gruffly.Obviously, telling her who it is would only blow his cover since he had already previously informed her that Scott is dead.Besides, all he needs from her is the cure and she can continue with her night like he was never here.Raven eyes him in disbelief. She knows that there is something going on here, because why would he practically break into her apartment and reveal a hint of his true character just because of “nobody important”?“Doesn’t it even matter who needs it? Where do your priorities lie? Isn’t it to save lives?” he asks with an unreadable expression. She pauses at his words. “Of course I want to save lives—”“So?” He stares back at her with raised brows.Deep down Raven can recognize that he is trying to manipulate her and use her compassion for souls to push her to do his bidding.Yet, he’s right. Saving lives comes first and everythi
