Brian stopped laughing. He turned around and asked, “Do you see this?” His arms were spread out wide like he was showing off a prize.
"This is life, Selin, it's something you can't grasp.”
What? I blinked hard and stared at him like I was struck by thunder.
“...this is something you wouldn’t understand... And I'm having my best time ever … with Samantha… the one person that matters.” He said with a full chest.
“...I…” I stuttered in shock and stumbled backward. My gaze settled on Sammy but she didn't give a damn. She rolled her eyes and stared at me like I was a speck of dust.
“Selin, come on,” Brian's voice broke into my head. “...Wake up. Look at you. Look at me. Isn't there a stark difference?
My eyes darted over his almost naked body and settled on myself. I eyed my sneakers and denim jeans. Nothing seemed out of place.
“You still don't get it. You’re still that little tomboy trying to play dress-up. You’re not... you’re not what I need anymore,” he said, loud enough for everyone to hear.
My eyes widened as the next words tumbled out of my mouth. “...but… you lived these past three years claiming you love me because of my outlook!”
“And you believed it!?” He yelled, sarcasm dripping in his voice.
“Wait. Do you believe I will leave stylistically dressed ladies to go after a woman that just looks like another man? Isn't that foolish?”
Gasps and mocking laughter erupted from the crowd. Everyone's eyes roved over me and I wished the ground would open up and swallow me.
“I gave everything up for you.” I breathed.
Brian laughed.
“Yeah, you did. But you did it because you wanted to. I didn’t ask you to.” He bragged.
Aha! I gasped, his words cutting like a knife.
“Selin, this is something you wouldn't understand. I'm having my best life with someone that matters…”
Samantha walked up then. She slid her arm around Brian’s waist like she earned it.
“She is sweet,. feminine, classy and she has the connection that I needed to move my company to the next level…”
“Oh… I see…” I muttered desperately.
“Selina, aren't you pathetic? You should leave when a man says he is done!” Sammy cooed, her eyes piercing mine. “Don't you get it? You are clinging onto a guy who doesn't want you anymore. He is way out of your league.”
“Sammy!” I yelled. But Sammy rolled her eyes and looked away as she clinched tighter to Brian.
My mouth fell open. Sammy was my friend and she knew how much I had sacrificed for Brian and our relationship. How could she!?
Brian smirked and placed Samantha's hand on his chest, he looked down at me and said the one thing I thought he never would.
“Selin. We are worlds apart, we don't belong to the same class.”
Laughter exploded around us like fireworks.
I stood there, numb, empty, and broken, while Samantha and Brian turned their backs on me and walked away like I was less than nothing.
Music roared back to life and the noise continued like nothing had happened. I remained glued to a point, trying hard to swallow all that had just transpired.
“Hello everyone,” Brian's voice boomed from a microphone, catching everyone's attention.
“I am glad you all made it here today. Sorry for the little diversion. I didn't see it coming,” he said, particularly looking in my direction.
“This is the crucial moment we all have been waiting for…” he said, his eyes scanning the crowd.
“Tonight, surrounded by friends and families, I want to ask you the most important question of my life… From the moment I met you, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you… Samantha Bells.” Brian cooed.
No way! Is he going to propose to my best friend in front of me?
The crowd roared in applause. A loud chatter exploded as a group of Samantha's friends screamed for joy. They pushed Sammy out of the crowd and towards Bria.
“Samantha Bells… I love you. Will you marry me?” Brian said, falling on one knee.
“Say yes! Say yes!! Say yes!! Marry him!!! Marry him!!! Marry him!!!" The crowd hailed, cheering Samantha on.
Samantha screamed happily with her hands spread over her face. Without sparing me a glance, she cooed, “I love you, Brian Rivers… I will marry you.”
I shut my eyes and clenched my fists. My nails dug into my palms, sending pain into my body. I couldn't believe I just witnessed Brian proposing to my best friend, right in front of me.
“I am hereby engaged to Samantha Bells,” Brian announced as Samantha drew him up to his feet.
The crowd cheered them on and I heard the squeaking sound of cameras as the two engaged in a passionate kiss.
What the fuck! Are the press here? My eyes widened as I looked around at those with cameras.
“I appreciate the members of the press that graced today's occasion. In the upcoming press conference, I will also make an official announcement.” Brian.
Brian did not only get engaged to Sammy, he made it official.
Gosh! This is going to make the headlines!
My Compass jeep croaked to live as I drove out of my apartment. In the trunk lay my luggage bag. It held clothes and some vanities I had. After driving around aimlessly, I decided to stop at Morrison Brewery. I should see my father first. Making a sharp turn, I sped down like I had lost my mind.“Dude … I mean, ma'am, be careful,” the guard at the parking lot said as I curved dangerously into the parking lot and bounced out of the car.I gave him a piercing look as I bounced away.I went through a crazy security check until I met one of the staff that identified me. At his mercy, I was allowed into the last floor where the chairman's office was.As I passed through the lobby, I heard some voices in the mini-conference room that was attached to my father's office. One of the voices sounded familiar. Max!I swallowed hard as hatred burned through me.I moved closer and eavesdropped. I couldn't see their faces but I heard the voices."...This is a golden opportunity!" Max urged desperat
When I woke up, it was a new day. The sun had risen and sun rays seeped in through the blinds. Although it was a bright day, the day was long gone.I ran my hand over my hair flipping it away from my face. I was still in the shorts and top I wore the previous day and I stank. Wait. When and how did I get in from the rooftop? Hazy images of me stumbling down the stairs and slumping on the sofa flashed into my head. I grunted as memories of the previous day came back to me, rushing like a flood.I remembered Brian and Sammy’s betrayal and my heart swelled in pain. But I shrugged it off instantly. It was my reality now and I had to live with it. I dragged myself into the bathroom. I had to prepare for the day.I had barely dressed up when I heard a knock on my door. “A minute,” I yelled and rushed to get the door. When I opened up, I froze on the spot. Brian was standing by the door, looking sober.“What audacity!? How dare you show up in front of me!” I gnashed my teeth and pulled t
“Hey!” Brian's familiar voice beckoned, jolting me out of my reverie. My gaze settled on him but I remained on the spot. When he saw that I didn't respond, he walked majestically towards me with his hands coiled around Sammy’s waist.“Can you see this? The beautiful thing we have?” he began, pointing at himself and Sammy.“...there shouldn't be any bad blood between us… you just don't fit into my high-rated status anymore. I can't settle for a girl like you…You have virtually nothing to your name…. No Family. No money….”A chilling wind swept over me. My anger swelled like the sea waves and it took all the ounce of strength in me to restrain myself from punching out his teeth.“Unlike you, Samantha has everything. Her uncle can add more value to my company. She is all I need to make my company one of the top companies in the brewery industry… and apart from that? I have fallen in love with her… I am sorry she happened to be your best friend.”Oh, I see… this is what all this is all a
I am Selina Morrison, the first child of a Billionaire, Benjamin Morrison. My mother died during my birth and my father remarried my step mom, Silver Morrison.Silver Morrison bought me up and I suffered greatly at her hands. My father wasn't aware of this. Silver was highly manipulative and almost turned me against my father. The abuse didn't stop with her. She brought her son, Max, with her when she married my father. He was way older than me.As a child, Max assaulted and molested me physically and sexually and threatened me not to speak up. I bore the pain and the dread in my heart until I came of age.As I grew older, I couldn't take it anymore. I went out of my way to learn self-defense. I learnt different fighting skills and became a black belt holder. I was able to defend myself against Max's assault and he stopped.I became free from Max but I wasn't free from my own devils. I hated Max, hated myself and hated men.I avoided men and trained harder as I didn't want to be seen

Selina’s povThe phone rang for the umpteenth time but there was still no response. Damn it!“It’s me, Brian... Call me back, okay?” I gnashed my teeth, my voice barely hiding the strain in it. I clicked on the voicemail button, biting down my lips.Today wasn’t just any day… It was our anniversary. I said yes to Brian three years ago and since then, we have always celebrated this day every year. But it's 6:43 PM already. No text. No call. Not even a stupid Happy Anniversary emoji! This was unlike Brian! Even during crazy board meetings, when he was flying out of the country for deals, he usually found a way to call. Something didn’t feel right. I could feel it. I flopped on the couch, groaning in despair. If something was wrong, there was only one way to find out. I rose and straightened my oversized jean shorts and redressed my camisole before flipping on a red tank top. I brushed my hair back brusquely, and pulled on my sneakers. My backpack slung leisurely on my back and I gr
