“Hey!” Brian's familiar voice beckoned, jolting me out of my reverie. My gaze settled on him but I remained on the spot.
When he saw that I didn't respond, he walked majestically towards me with his hands coiled around Sammy’s waist.
“Can you see this? The beautiful thing we have?” he began, pointing at himself and Sammy.
“...there shouldn't be any bad blood between us… you just don't fit into my high-rated status anymore. I can't settle for a girl like you…You have virtually nothing to your name…. No Family. No money….”
A chilling wind swept over me. My anger swelled like the sea waves and it took all the ounce of strength in me to restrain myself from punching out his teeth.
“Unlike you, Samantha has everything. Her uncle can add more value to my company. She is all I need to make my company one of the top companies in the brewery industry… and apart from that? I have fallen in love with her… I am sorry she happened to be your best friend.”
Oh, I see… this is what all this is all about… Sammy's uncle who can take Brian's company to the next level.
My gaze settled on Sammy, I searched her eyes for any sign of remorse, but there was none. Rather, she looked me straight in the eyes daring me to do my worst.
What a conniving bitch, birds of the same feather. She knew how hard I raised Brian up, but jumped on him at the slightest opportunity.
My heart swelled with anger. I charged towards them like I wanted to knock them to the ground. Two men rushed towards us whom I felt were bodyguards but Brian stopped them.
Looking piercingly into my eyes, he let go of Sammy and prowled towards me.
“Hit me, fighter,” he gritted.
I flexed my fists and gnashed my teeth as I tried hard not to hit him.
With his eyes not leaving mine, he walked very close. Daring me. He hoisted his face closer until his lips were close to my ears, “Do you see it now? This is why I can't marry you!” He whispered.
I swallowed hard and took a deep breath. I couldn't take it any more. I tilted away from him and turned my back at him.
I dressed my face cap and dug my hands into the pockets before turning back to look at him.
My gaze settled on him and then . I looked into their eyes one after the other.
“You know what? I don't need assholes like you. You two can go to hell!” I gritted and bounced out of the premises without glancing back.
The drive back home was blurry. My heart ached, my head hurt and my eyes held torrents of unshed tears as I tried not to cry.
My hands tightened on the wheels and I sped down the highway like a lunatic. It was a miracle that I drove back home safely.
I eased my car into the garage and pulled of face cap off as I walked in.
My hair tumbled over my face and shoulders and I ran my hands through it messily.
I marched towards the cold ashtray in my sitting room and searched my closet for a lighter. I had quit smoking but right now, nicotine was all I craved.
At a single strike of the lighter, the stick came alive. I took a long drag like my sanity depended on it. Nicotine permeated my senses and my chest burned.
I dropped the burning butt into the ashtray and marched to my wine rack. Although I wasn't a good drinker, I had enough wine stacked in my wine rack, thanks to Brian's winery.
Without a wine glass, I popped the wine bottle open and placed it in my mouth. I took 3 gulps- mouth full before dropping the bottle.
I became tipsy immediately. The room spined and unsteady strides, I climbed to the rooftop where I had my punching bag.
“Go to hell Sammy! Go to hell, Brian!! Go to hell, Max!!!” I yelled and rammed my fists endlessly into the punching bag.
Most of my punches were not on target but with each one came a calming relief.
Selina’s POVI woke to a dull ache in my foot and the faint chill of ice melting against my skin. My eyelids fluttered open to see morning light streaming through the blinds. For a second, I forgot where I was until I remembered the previous night…I had stormed into Travis’ office but slumped. He held me in his arms and carried me to … God knows where and …Remembering all, I jerked up but pain tethered down my whole length and I recoiled into the bed.I felt a dent on the bed and looked in the direction only to find Travis. He was sitting on the edge of the bed. Fully dressed and scrolling through his phone. The memory of last night hit me like a slap on the face. His bare chest, his strong arms holding me like I weighed nothing… and my embarrassing attempt to escape from him.“Morning,” he said without looking up.I swallowed and sat up slightly. “Morning,” I muttered, not sure whether to thank him or punch him.“Stop staring like you want to punch me,” he said looking up from his
Selina's POV“What the heck do you think you are doing!?” I thundered as I limped into Travis office.Travis remained seated. His eyes flicked my way and he continued with whatever he was writing. Then, like he had no care in the world, he muttered casually. “You shouldn't be running around with your leg,” he didn't spare me a glance.I ran my hand through my hair impatiently, I was going insane. “How could you!” I snarled. “I won't let it slide. I will sue you if I lose the patient in that hospital room.” I gritted but he looked unperturbed.“Come to me, Morrinson. Let me teach you how to do business,” he reclined into his chair and swiveled sideways.“ I am not talking about business here and you know it! How could you dismiss the guard at…”“You shouldn't hold all your stakes in front of your enemies. You should hide your cards until you strike down your enemies without giving any cue,” he cut inMy anger spiked. I walked closer to him, forgetting my bad foot.“Selin?” Travis screa
Travis. As I walked out of Selina's apartment, my phone rang.“Boss, I have sent in some pictures. It is the remains of the warehouse that Selina Morrison visited. It was a narrow escape for her and her crew…” I clutched my phone tighter as my informant continued. I tapped my phone, logged in my email and stared back at the pictures that were sent to me. The ashes of what was once a warehouse laid in ruins on the screen of my phone. “Who is the culprit?” I asked coldly.“Not yet confirmed. My men are…”“Do your job right. Complete your job before you call me,” I gritted and hung up.“I don't care who it is, but no one touches my things and goes free. Selina is mine, I own her!” My blood boiled as I eased into the car.“Take me down to the main office,” I fumed at my driver.SelinaThe maids were handy, how thoughtful of him. I thought as I watched the maids run around to get things done. I had never been handicapped in my life, not since I learnt how to protect myself and reach my g
Selina' POVThe evening glow seeped in, making the room warm and bright. I was sitting on the sofa with my back resting on the armrest. My right leg was kissing the floor while my left leg lay on the sofa. My left foot was heavily bandaged, I was immobile.I was almost hospitalized but didn't want it. I hated hospitals, the smell and all usually made me nauseous.“It is best that you stay on admission here. But if you insist on leaving, we will let you go only in one condition,” the doctor raised up a finger, “... You will remain immobile. If you don't, you will end up here in a worse condition.” He warned. What I had thought to be an ordinary sprain turned out to be dislocation. It had swollen before we left Orley and the pain was unbearable. When we hit back to town, I was admitted alongside Mr Alfred. But while Mr Alfred remained in the hospital under security, here I am back in the warmth of my room. I hated hospitals!Tyler and Zick took the intruder who we cut to the police sta
Selina's POV“Get her!” One growled and threw a knife. The knife went Tyler's way but Todd pushed him out of the way. The knife swooped past them and dropped on the floor.Get her? Did he mean me? That means they recognised me and knew I would come around today. Our plan must have leaked and they wanted to get rid of Mr Alfred and me.My rage soared. With my foot, I kicked up Zick's pistol that was on the floor. I plunged forward, picked the pistol amidst air and fired a warning shot on the wall. The attackers panicked, but one charged towards me blindly. I sidestepped, kicking his knee with brutal precision. He crashed to the floor with a thud. Before I could balance, the other one raised his switchblade and lunged toward Alfred.Fists landed like hammers as Dray tackled him.The one I pinned to the ground wanted to pull my foot to knock me down but I pinned him down and aimed my gun at him, my hand on the trigger. He fidgeted and I roared,“Who sent you!?”He remained silent and loo
Selina's POV“Orley? That is the outskirts of the city!” Driver Fox exclaimed as he punched the address in the GPS navigator.“Yes. I'm searching for someone…”“They possibly live in the shack!” Fox exclaimed.“Seat tight, we are in for a long drive,” he muttered.“Yes, Orley is about a two hour drive,” Tyler and Todd supplied.I wanted to go discreetly but on second thought, I made Tyler join me. It would be good to have someone who recognises Mr Alfred around. Tyler had been my father's assistant for about seven years now so I was rest assured that he recognised Mr Alfred and Mr Alfred also recognised him.Tyler came with Todd and insisted that he go with us. Todd was a guard and mercenary from a private security company. Todd maintained that he wanted us to have an escort and he didn't want to bring our men in the security department since the mission was meant to be a secret.“We are only bringing in an old man. Dray and Zick are enough... we don't need escorts.” I protested.“Yes
