ALORA POV

The darkness inside the subterranean cell was absolute, cold, and heavy as a burial vault.

I sat with my back pressed against the weeping granite wall, my knees pulled tightly to my chest, breathing in the stale, iron-heavy draft that drifted up from the lower abyss. Outside my cage, the torch Patrick had left in the sconce was sputtering out, its pale amber flame dying in a thin trail of black smoke.

My body throbbed with a deep, agonizing exhaustion. The silver-laced iron chains wrapped around my torso and forearms bit raw into my skin, and the suppression collar at my throat flared with a hot, sickly purple sizzle every time my pulse spiked.

A fool, Patrick had called her. A weak, foolish coward.

Tears, hot and silent, cut through the dried mud and blood on my cheeks.

For eighteen years, I had believed I was just Alora Black—an ordinary girl who lived in a quiet farmhouse in Oakridge, who helped Clara bake bread on Sunday mornings, who worried about high school exams and university applications. I had believed my parents were a quiet schoolteacher and a burly, soft-spoken blacksmith in Ironford.

Now, the veil had been torn away, leaving raw, bleeding ruin behind.

Clara and Marcus weren't our birth parents; they were guardians who had given their lives to shield us from the shadow of Stormfang. Maya was dead, her laughter silenced on the wet grass of a cemetery. And my birth mother—the queen whose name Patrick spat like poison—had torn her own soul apart seventeen years ago, shattering the ancestral seals of this very keep to smuggle two helpless infants into the human valleys.

She hadn't run away. She hadn't surrendered. She had given everything so that Alexander and I could draw breath.

I looked down at my wrists. Beneath the charred leather of my vambraces and the glowing purple runes of the silver cuffs, my skin was pale, bruised, and shivering.

"Mother..." I whispered into the freezing dark, my voice a broken, raspy thread that barely carried across the damp cell. "Did you feel this cold when you broke the seals?"

The dark didn't answer. Only the rhythmic, hollow dripping of stagnant water echoed from the cavern floor below my cage.

I closed my eyes, letting my head fall back against the granite wall. I forced myself to stop fighting the agonizing burn of the silver collar, forcing my frantic, ragged breathing to slow down. I needed clarity. I needed strength. Patrick wanted me broken, starving, and weeping in the dirt, waiting for him to butcher Alexander at the gates.

Alexander.

The moment my brother's name crossed my mind, a sudden, microscopic pulse rippled through the core of my chest.

It wasn't the violent, explosive White Light I had used in the pine grove. It was deeper, quieter—an ancient, unbreakable thread of origin-magic buried far beneath the reach of Patrick's silver runes.

My heart took a long, heavy thud.

Far to the south, miles beyond the frozen gorges and jagged battlements of Stormfang, I felt him. It was a faint, distant vibration in my blood—a cold, relentless electric hum charging through the snowstorm. He was alive. The silver spike Patrick’s vanguards had driven through his shoulder hadn't stopped him. He was marching north, his kinetic thunder roaring against the mountain wind, carrying the same absolute, uncompromising vow that burned in my own veins.

He is coming, the blood inside me whispered. My brother is coming.

A slow, steady warmth began to spread from my spine outward. The White Light inside my chest didn't erupt outward to fight the silver suppression collar; instead, it turned inward, flowing gently into my bruised muscles, knitting the torn flesh along my collarbone, and numbing the agonizing bite of the iron chains.

I opened my eyes.

The dark cell was no longer pitch black. To my heightened, divine vision, the subterranean vault was alive with faint, shimmering veins of magic. I could see the ancient ley-lines running through the thick granite walls—pulses of old, forgotten earth-magic flowing deep into the foundation of Stormfang.

And directly beneath the floor of my cell, echoing up from the pitch-black abyss below, I felt something else.

It was a faint, rhythmic resonance—a pulse of origin-magic that matched the exact, unique frequency of my own blood. It was soft, weak, suppressed by decades of dark iron and silver, but it was undeniably there. Living. Breathing. Hanging in the deep dark below my boots.

My breath hitched in my throat, my silver-gold eyes dilating into sharp, brilliant rings through the gloom.

My mother sacrificed her life... Patrick had said.

What if he lied?

The realization hit me like a physical blow, sending a wave of electric adrenaline crashing through my nervous system. Patrick was a usurper built on deception, murder, and fear. He had lied about Alexander dying in the cemetery mud. He had lied about our human parents being mere caretakers.

What if he had lied about her death, too?

I leaned forward against the cold iron bars of my cage, ignoring the violent, purple flare of the silver runes burning against my chest. I pressed my ear toward the gaps in the stone floor, straining every heightened sense my divine blood possessed.

Down in the deepest, darkest subterranean vault—levels below the deep cells—a faint, almost imperceptible sound drifted up through the cracks in the ancient rock.

It wasn't the wind. It wasn't the dripping water.

It was a low, melodic hum. A song—soft, mournful, yet laced with a subterranean thread of pure, unyielding authority. A mother’s lullaby, humming in the dark across seventeen years of iron and ice.

A tear slipped down my cheek, but this time, it wasn't born of grief or fear. It was born of a cold, terrifying flame that ignited deep within my soul.

I sat back slowly in the center of my cage, resting my silver-laced hands on my knees. I didn't weep. I didn't tremble. I closed my eyes, pulling the White Light inward, letting it pool around my heart like a sleeping dragon, waiting for the precise moment to strike.

Patrick thought he had brought a helpless prize into his fortress. He thought he had locked the divine blood in a cage to solidify his crown.

He didn't realize that by bringing me deep into the stone heart of Stormfang, he had reconnected the bloodline to its source.

"Keep gloating on your bone throne, Patrick," I whispered into the shadowy dark, a sharp, feral smile cutting across my pale face as my upper canines glinted through the gloom. "Enjoy your fortress while it still stands."

The crimson wax seals marking the border posts were all in place. Every piece on the board was under my absolute control.Yet, a subtle, irritating prickle lingered at the base of my neck—an uninvited phantom itch that I couldn't quite shake.A sharp, hurried knock rattled the heavy oak doors of my study."Enter," I commanded coldly, not taking my eyes off the border map.The heavy doors swung open, and Lord Sterling rushed into the room, his long robes rustling against the flagstones, his pale face slick wit

A crystal decanter of dark, aged spiced liquor sat on the carved mahogany side table beside a stack of wedding proclamations awaiting my wax seal. Outside, the night sky was dark, overcast, and threatening storm—the mountain wind howling like a wounded beast against the high glass windows.Everything was alignment. The girl was locked in the high tower under the watchful eye of my new vanguard, Kael. PATRICK POVThe autumn wind carried the heavy scent of roasted meat, spiced wine, and the metallic tang of sweat and iron across the grand training court of Silverfang.I sat back in my carved obsidian throne on the high marble balcony overlooking the yard, nursing a silver goblet of aged spiced wine. Below, dozens of elite warriors clashed broadswords and iron-studded shields, their harsh grunts and the loud ringing of steel echoing against the granite walls of the inner keep. Lord Sterling stood at my shoulder, clutching a thick parchment ledger containing the names of fresh mercenaries and border recruits brought in from the northern ridges.None of them impressed me. They fought like clumsy bears—heavy, predictable, and devoid of true lethality."My Prince," Sterling murmured, leaning down slightly. "The guard rotations for the eastern wing have been doubled as you ordered. However, the guard commander remains uneasy. The girl’s presence in the high tower is causing quiet unrest a

PATRICK POVThe heavy bronze doors of the Forbidden Vaults creaked shut behind me, sealing the damp, rotting stench of the deep cellars back into the dark.I ascended the winding granite staircase, my silk-lined boots brushing silently over the cold stone steps. A heady, intoxicating warmth roared through my veins—a sensation I hadn't felt in years. For so long, my existence had been defined by a quiet, gnawing failure. I had ruled Silverfang with an iron fist, yet every victory felt hollow, every tribute felt worthless, and every night spent in my cold bed was plagued by the memory of a woman who had walked away from me without turning back.No longer. The universe had finally corrected its trajectory. As I reached the grand promenade of the middle keep, my four elite shadow guards fell into step behind me, their silver armor clanking rhythmically against the stone walls. PATRICK POVThe subterranean corridors of the Silverfang Keep smelled of damp limestone, ancient moss, and the metallic tang of dried blood. To the rest of the pack, these deep catacombs were known as the Forbidden Vaults—a dark, forgotten labyrinth built into the roots of the mountain where the kingdom tossed its worst traitors, rogue Alpha challenge-seekers, and political abominations. No one stepped down these stone staircases without explicit permission. No light touched these halls except for the flickering, amber glow of resin torches mounted every fifty paces along the damp stone walls.I walked down the spiraling stairs with light, easy strides. My leather boots clicked against the slick flags in a steady, triumphant rhythm. For years, my heart had been a hollowed-out cavern, an empty vessel throbbing with the phantom agony of a severed bond.
