ALORA POV

The subterranean vault remained frozen, pitch-black, and silent, but the silence no longer felt like a grave. It felt like a trap waiting to spring.

I sat cross-legged on the icy stone floor of my cage, my hands resting palms-up on my knees. The silver suppression cuffs around my wrists and ankles burned hot, glowing a faint, angry purple against my pale skin every time my pulse quickened. But I didn't pull away from the silver anymore. I leaned into the pain, using the stinging burn to sharpen my mind, keeping my consciousness pinned to the deep, thrumming pulse echoing beneath my boots.

Thump... thump... thump...

It was a heartbeat—faint, slow, but unmistakably divine.

Whoever hung suspended in the abyss below this deep cell wing possessed the exact same high-tier origin-magic that thrummed inside my own chest. Patrick believed he had broken the old bloodline, but he had merely buried its root in the dark, ignorant that roots grow in the dark until they split stone.

CLANG.

The heavy iron grate at the far end of the subterranean corridor groaned open. Heavy, armored boot steps echoed against the damp granite walls, accompanied by the low, rattling scrape of an iron pike dragging across stone.

I didn't open my eyes immediately. I kept my breathing shallow, my expression smooth and empty, letting the guards see exactly what they expected: a starving, broken girl wilting inside a cage.

"Look at her," one guard muttered, his raspy voice thick with the coarse accent of the northern border packs. "High Alpha Patrick acts like she's a war demon, but she looks like a drowned rat."

"Watch your tongue, Tomas," the second guard growled, stopping a few feet outside my iron bars. The harsh, flickering light of his pitch torch cut through the gloom. "That’s Adrian’s twin line. You saw what her brother did to the vanguard in Sector 4 before they pinned him. Don't go standing too close to those bars."

"The brother is vulture food by now," Tomas scoffed, though I heard the nervous shift of his boots against the wet flagstones. He stepped closer, slamming the wooden butt of his pike against the iron bars with a deafening sounds. "Hey! Princess! High Alpha sent down fresh water. Drink it or starve, makes no difference to us."

A wooden bowl was kicked through the bottom slot of the cage, sloshing foul, stale water across the stone floor.

Slowly, deliberately, I opened my eyes.

The two guards flinched, instinctively taking a half-step backward. Even with my White Light suppressed beneath the silver collar, my eyes burned through the torchlit dark with a sharp, luminous silver-gold brilliance that made their hands tighten around their weapons.

"Where is he?" I rasped out, my voice raspy from disuse, but steady as iron.

Tomas sneered, trying to mask his discomfort behind a cruel chuckle. "Who? Your brother? Probably floating down the valley river with a silver spike through his gut."

"No," I whispered, leaning forward until the silver collar bit sharp into my neck, purple sparks sizzling against my collarbone. "Where is Patrick?"

"The High Alpha is up in the obsidian hall, preparing the pack for your brother's arrival," the second guard answered cold, eyeing me warily. "The mountain pass is locked down. Forty elite vanguards line the gorge. If your brother steps onto the drawbridge, he'll be torn to shreds before he takes three steps."

"He won't stay on the drawbridge," I murmured, a cold, dark smile touching the corners of my lips. "He's coming for Patrick's head. And when he arrives, these walls won't save you."

Tomas spat on the stone floor outside my cage. "Keep dreaming, pup. You're locked in four tons of cold-forged iron. You're not going anywhere, and neither is your dead family."

They turned on their heels, their heavy boots echoing down the corridor as the heavy iron grate slammed shut and locked behind them, plunging the hallway back into dim, flickering twilight.

The moment the sound of their footsteps faded up the spiral staircase, I closed my eyes again and reached out with my mind.

I didn't try to force my White Light outward. Pushing against the silver runes would only drain my physical strength and alert the sentries above. Instead, I sank deeper into the stone beneath my knees, channeling my awareness downward through the cracks in the floorboards.

Listen, I told myself. Listen to the blood.

The hum from the lower abyss grew clearer. It wasn't just a song—it was a call. A rhythmic, ancient resonance meant to anchor a lost pup in the dark.

Alora...

A sound—hardly louder than a breath of wind through a high pine—echoed up through the bedrock. It wasn't a spoken word, but a direct mind-link, frayed and weakened by seventeen years of silver suppression, yet vibrating with a raw, fierce maternal heat.

My breath hitched violently in my throat. Tears sprang to my eyes, burning hot against my cold cheeks.

Mother? I sent back through the blood-thread, pouring every drop of my consciousness into the faint connection. Mother, can you hear me?

For a long, agonizing second, the dark remained silent. The silver collar at my throat pulsed violently, sensing the microscopic spike in my divine origin-magic, its purple runes biting deep into my flesh. I clamped my teeth shut, refusing to let out a sound, holding the mental bridge open with pure, unyielding stubbornness.

Then, deep in the dark below, the hum surged.

My child... the raspy, melodic voice echoed directly inside my mind, laced with an ancient, terrifying warmth. My sweet, brave child... you came home...

Alexander and I... we didn't know, I wept silently, my hands trembling against my knees. They killed Clara... they killed Marcus and Maya... Patrick dragged me here in chains...

I know, my star, my mother’s voice resonated, growing stronger, clearer, as if our shared blood was burning away seventeen years of subterranean frost. I felt your awakening on the ley-lines when you turned eighteen. I felt your brother's thunder roar across the southern border. Patrick thinks he caged you... he thinks he brought a prize into his domain...

A sudden, low chuckle echoed through the mental link—the very same confident, dangerous laugh I had inherited.

He brought the storm into his own foundation, Alora, she declared, her divine presence flaring against the darkness like a rising sun beneath the earth. Do not bleed for the silver, my daughter. Do not waste your light on these bars. Hold your strength. Your brother is crossing the ridge as we speak... and when he strikes the gates, we will break this mountain together.

I opened my eyes in the dark cell.

The fear that had lingered in the corners of my mind—the lingering grief for Clara, Marcus, and Maya—didn't vanish, but it transformed. It hardened into a dense, impenetrable shield of absolute resolve.

I looked down at the wooden bowl of stale water on the cage floor. I reached out, picked it up, and drank every drop, letting the cold liquid restore my parched throat.

I was no longer just a prisoner waiting for rescue. I was the High Alpha's daughter, sitting on a explosive keg of divine magic directly beneath Patrick's throne.

I pulled my knees back to my chest, leaning against the cold stone, a quiet, deadly calm settling over my heart.

"Hurry, Alexander," I whispered into the quiet dark, my silver-gold eyes gleaming through the gloom like twin stars. "The throne is waiting."

Every piece on the board was under my absolute control.Yet, a subtle, irritating prickle lingered at the base of my neck—an uninvited phantom itch that I couldn't quite shake.A sharp, hurried knock rattled the heavy oak doors of my study."Enter," I commanded coldly, not taking my eyes off the border map.The heavy doors swung open, and Lord Sterling rushed into the room, his long robes rustling against the flagstones, his pale face slick wit

A crystal decanter of dark, aged spiced liquor sat on the carved mahogany side table beside a stack of wedding proclamations awaiting my wax seal. Outside, the night sky was dark, overcast, and threatening storm—the mountain wind howling like a wounded beast against the high glass windows.Everything was alignment. The girl was locked in the high tower under the watchful eye of my new vanguard, Kael. PATRICK POVThe autumn wind carried the heavy scent of roasted meat, spiced wine, and the metallic tang of sweat and iron across the grand training court of Silverfang.I sat back in my carved obsidian throne on the high marble balcony overlooking the yard, nursing a silver goblet of aged spiced wine. Below, dozens of elite warriors clashed broadswords and iron-studded shields, their harsh grunts and the loud ringing of steel echoing against the granite walls of the inner keep. Lord Sterling stood at my shoulder, clutching a thick parchment ledger containing the names of fresh mercenaries and border recruits brought in from the northern ridges.None of them impressed me. They fought like clumsy bears—heavy, predictable, and devoid of true lethality."My Prince," Sterling murmured, leaning down slightly. "The guard rotations for the eastern wing have been doubled as you ordered. However, the guard commander remains uneasy. The girl’s presence in the high tower is causing quiet unrest a

PATRICK POVThe heavy bronze doors of the Forbidden Vaults creaked shut behind me, sealing the damp, rotting stench of the deep cellars back into the dark.I ascended the winding granite staircase, my silk-lined boots brushing silently over the cold stone steps. A heady, intoxicating warmth roared through my veins—a sensation I hadn't felt in years. For so long, my existence had been defined by a quiet, gnawing failure. I had ruled Silverfang with an iron fist, yet every victory felt hollow, every tribute felt worthless, and every night spent in my cold bed was plagued by the memory of a woman who had walked away from me without turning back.No longer. The universe had finally corrected its trajectory. As I reached the grand promenade of the middle keep, my four elite shadow guards fell into step behind me, their silver armor clanking rhythmically against the stone walls. PATRICK POVThe subterranean corridors of the Silverfang Keep smelled of damp limestone, ancient moss, and the metallic tang of dried blood. To the rest of the pack, these deep catacombs were known as the Forbidden Vaults—a dark, forgotten labyrinth built into the roots of the mountain where the kingdom tossed its worst traitors, rogue Alpha challenge-seekers, and political abominations. No one stepped down these stone staircases without explicit permission. No light touched these halls except for the flickering, amber glow of resin torches mounted every fifty paces along the damp stone walls.I walked down the spiraling stairs with light, easy strides.
